Long purple curtains adorned the majesty of the Basilica. They fell weeping from above, underlining the sadness, but also the hope of eternal life.

The Basilica was illuminated only by sunlight streaming in through tall, august windows. Any other light source, during the sunny hours, had been banned: only the sun was to illuminate the body of His Eminence, Leopoldo Vicenzo Montenegro Viana, Cardinal of the Holy Aristotelian, Universal and Roman Church.

At night, instead, the nave was illuminated by a double row of torches and torches that traced a path to the exposed body, covered by a thin transparent veil.

On the four sides of the uncovered coffin, four censers spread an intense oriental perfume topped by the coats of arms of the late Cardinal and the Viana Family.

An honor guard had been set up to guard the coffin, since no men-at-arms had access to the sacred place.

Funeral laments alternated with hymns to Almighty God. The Basilica Choir never failed to accompany with songs the prayers of the faithful who watched over the lifeless body while awaiting the funeral rites.

Cardinal Fenice entered the huge basilica, noticing the funeral decorations and the faint reverberation of singing voices.
The atmosphere was solemn and austere.
She took her seat and immersed herself in prayer, distracting herself for a moment to think about how many cardinals' funerals she had attended over the years.
A brief shiver went down her spine, and a question made its way into her mind: when will it be my time?

When great people die, as if a part of us also died, the only consolation is that their lives continue up in the Solar Paradise, the place where Aristotle and Christos sit under the Most High.
For this man, as little as we knew him, we could be sure that his place in eternal bliss was guaranteed.
The basilica was decorated in purple shades, liturgically ready for this sad moment, which for us believers, no matter how sad the departure from this earthly life was, is also a joy because we know that now our brother is in final peace, love and friendship.

Angels took you to the courts of heaven, martyrs received you on your arrival and took you to the Solar Paradise. The Choir of Angels lifted you up, and together with the prophets Aristotle and Christ, you looked into the eyes of the Most High and had eternal peace. - Archbishop utter short prayer

_____________________________________________________________

He entered and sat in the designated place.

Alexandra, entered the basilica adorned in mourning.
She did not know the deceased personally, but it was always painful to witness the passing of a Brother in the faith.
Sadness also permeated the walls of the church, casting long grey shadows, and her footsteps echoed in the silence
He quickly looked around and took his seat silently waiting for the funeral ceremony to begin

Hubertusz fekete reverendájában lépett be a bazilikába. Ismeretlenül érkezünk ide, s imádkozunk a lelkéért.

Hubertusz entered the basilica in his black cassock. A sad event today. A life ends its earthly career and leaves us. Even though we know that our souls are going to meet the Lord, we fear this moment. We fear that we will not be found good enough in the eyes of God. Few can prepare themselves for this and go forth in peace. Hubertusz hopes that our brother Cardinal was one of them. We come here as strangers, and we pray for his soul.

Even as strangers, we are bound together by Faith. Which, through Aristotle's friendship, unites us as brothers. So long as we have Faith, no one is alone. Just as the cardinal's coffin is not alone, day or night. Someone always comes to mourn our lost brother.

Hubertusz, standing by the coffin, is lost in thought, long minutes pass in silence when he breaks out of this state. He touches the side of the coffin and says.

Even when hope is gone, there is still friendship.

The elderly cardinal arrived in the basilica accompanied by his secretary, who acted as a counterbalance to the stick he needed to walk ... He was now over 80 years old, but every time he entered the basilica of San Titus his gaze was raised towards the ceiling and was ecstatic like a child ... It was true that when he returned to look around, all the years collapsed on his shoulders ... How long was it until the moment when the Most High would call him to himself?
He greeted the others present with a respectful nod and went to sit in the assigned seat.

The Cardinal Dean entered the basilica and marked his chest, bowing. Too many grave bereavements were hitting the Sacred College in recent times and his thoughts went out to the faithful who had been orphaned of a guide and support. He took his seat and gathered himself in prayer.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem

        Lux æterna luceat eis, Domine
        Cum Sanctis tuis in æternum
        Quia pius es

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem

        Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine

        Amen

      Vamos rezar:

        Credo in Deum,
        Altissimum Omnipotentem,
        Creatorem caeli et terrae,
        Inferos et paradisi,
        Ultima hora animae judicem nostrae

        Et in Aristotelem, prophetam,
        Nicomaqui Phaetique filium,
        Missum ut sapientiam et universi
        Divas leges errantibus hominibus erudiret

        Credo etiam in Christum,
        Natum ex Maria et Ioseph,
Vitam dedit ut nobis paradisi viam monstraret
Sic, postquam sub Pontio passus est
        Propter salutem
        Nostram martyr perivit
        Consecutus est Solem
Ubi Aristoteles ad Altissimi dexteram eum expectabat

        Credo in Divinam Actionem,
Sanctam Ecclesiam aristotelicianam, romanam, unam et indivisibilem
        Sanctorum communionem,
        Peccatorum remissionem,
        Vitam aeternam.

        AMEN

For about 40 minutes, he was in the sacristy getting ready for the ceremony. Acolytes and assistants helped him with the vestments and ornaments. The cardinal's robes contrasted uniquely with the cardinal's ring and the pectoral cross, both in silver. During mourning, the Cardinal of Sagres adopted the custom of leaving gold behind and adopting the use of silver, as he considered it more appropriate.

In that particular situation, he was especially downcast. He was celebrating the Funeral of Vicenzo. Vicenzo was not only a fellow Cardinal, he was one of his closest and most intimate friends, but he was also his confessor, his mainstay, support and strength in the darkest and most outspoken moments.

Feeling ready, the Cardinal came out of the sacristy accompanied by the acolytes. The Basilica was full of people from the most diverse places and the most diverse social classes. So he blessed those who greeted him with a nod of the head, but he did not want to disturb them further; each one should be given the time and discretion of his own mourning.

With breviary in hand, he joined the Basilica choir to recite the Agnus Dei, continuing the funeral vigil.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem

        Lux æterna luceat eis, Domine
        Cum Sanctis tuis in æternum
        Quia pius es

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem

        Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine

        Amen

During the chorus chants, the Sagres turned to the public.

He closed his eyes, which was as bad as it was terrible, and the moments he had spent with Vicenzo flashed through his thoughts. Adonnis opened his eyes and instead of the vivid images, he saw the coffin just below the altar and saw death. The singing ceased and the Sagres was silent, one minute, two minutes, three minutes...

Today is a horrible day... He interrupted himself, cleared his throat again, looked at Vicenzo and spoke to himself - for you, my friend - Today is a horrible day and the whole Church is weeping for the man we loved as a Cardinal, as an Archbishop, as a Guide, and as an Illustrious and Worthy Portuguese who influenced, shaped and will shape our lives in so many ways. Today, the world is weeping because it has lost one of its leaders.

I greet you all here today as you bid farewell to Leopoldo Vicenzo Montenegro Viana, Cardinal of the Holy Aristotelian, Universal and Roman Church, Defender of the Faith, Son of God and faithful and loyal soul. I particularly greet the Family Viana who, in their hour of mourning, finds consolation in the Word of God, but also in the Community of Aristotle gathered here today. We will not leave them alone, we will be together as he was, as was his vision of this world, his world - "Together".

We stand together and light the light of sorrow to light the way to Paradise together and witness the magnificence that this man was, the power that he represented. For every smile, every moment when he invested his knowledge and his action in the service of the Church, the Faith and his flock. We will be witnesses to the love and friendship he gave us and we give him - forever.

      Let's pray:

        Credo in Deum,
        Altissimum Omnipotentem,
        Creatorem caeli et terrae,
        Inferos et paradisi,
        Ultima hora animae judicem nostrae

        Et in Aristotelem, prophetam,
        Nicomaqui Phaetique filium,
        Missum ut sapientiam et universi
        Divas leges errantibus hominibus erudiret

        Credo etiam in Christum,
        Natum ex Maria et Ioseph,
Vitam dedit ut nobis paradisi viam monstraret
Sic, postquam sub Pontio passus est
        Propter salutem
        Nostram martyr perivit
        Consecutus est Solem
Ubi Aristoteles ad Altissimi dexteram eum expectabat

        Credo in Divinam Actionem,
Sanctam Ecclesiam aristotelicianam, romanam, unam et indivisibilem
        Sanctorum communionem,
        Peccatorum remissionem,
        Vitam aeternam.

        AMEN
