The village was still there, only now he was not a Cardinal of the Church. He wasn't even a cleric. He could not hide the strange feeling that now overwhelmed his being, since after a long time he had made the decision to step on the residence he had built among the suburbs of Rome. He felt with great nostalgia how the ensigns of the barony of Monterado were still intact, as if time had not been cruel to them. He also noted that the limestone that covered the facade of the house kept its color ...

He was not alone on that trip, it was logical and evident that he was with Pero Gil and some of the guards of his Kyphonine escort. He knew that returning to that city, after a long time, could mean some setbacks. But it was not like that. The implementation of force was not necessary to seize what belonged to him. That residence kept the name of its lands "Monterado"

From there, on an occasion that was possibly impossible to remember, Baron Legrat dispatched feudal duties, received a few guests or simply sat down to delight in the peaceful Roman life. He could afford - if it could be called that - to have residence in Cifuentes, Monterado and Rome. He considered himself lucky.

The great gate of the residence was opened wide, being received by some servants dressed according to the tradition imposed by him: livery for men and dress for ladies. After a brief bow, Enrique Legrat entered the rooms that were part of his Roman residence.

- Let Monterado's lieutenant know that we are in Rome, and we look forward to seeing him.

That morning the Knight de Insilduil and Master of the Templars of San Bernardo, he was in his rooms in the Castle on the outskirts of Rome, working on his CSA activities and issues related to the Episcopal Guard and projects that were halfway through, all recorded in his books and manuscript in the library of the great hall.
At this moment, he heard the steps of a group of guards escorting visitors. After the protocol presentations, one of them said:

Blessings and peace, it is an honor for me to meet you Master Knight Moderak of Albarrasín, my name is Giovanni, in charge of the Guard of the Baron of Monterado, the Noble Legrat, has arrived in Monterado and has requested your presence, Lord

Hearing those words, he did not wait any longer, he knew through his letters that the Noble Baron would arrive in Rome and they must meet in the Monterado lands, work awaits him and without further delay, he took his hat and distinctive cape with the Templar cross in its center and accompanied the Baron's escort to Monterado lands where they awaited him.

- Me place volver a veros.

- He has arrived de Albarrasín, my lord - someone announced behind him, while he continued fully attending to the many other duties that occupied his mind after having returned to Monterado.

Enrique made a gesture and dismissed the servant. He knew that he would soon be taken to his office, since the trust and respect that existed between them was more than evident. He knew well that the Aragonese Templar had become known in the Holy See, and he knew that this would serve to get him back into it.

As soon as he could imagine Albarrasín's was in front of him. Dressed in his Templar cross cape, always diligent.

- I'm glad to see you again. And I apologize if I abstract you from your daily activities, but we need to talk to Monterado about what we will do for the well-being of the lands. Would you like some wine, perhaps?

_____________________________________________________

- I am pleased to know that you are always in the right place at the right time, it is as if the Most High so ordered. Please join me - The Baron of Monterado had two glasses, while serving the exquisite broth that those lands produced without end throughout the harvest, serving to delight demanding palates in entertaining situations, important conversations or large banquets. He knew that the Lieutenant of Monterado was a determined man, and that his appointment had pleased the pontifical authorities.

Enrique delighted in the tranquility of his stay, in the taste of good Monterosino wine, since outside, in the bucolic Rome, everything was incessant apogee. Soon, as if breaking the bubble of silence, he snapped:

- Rome gathers us all, my dear Monderak. Before I was in Monterado, there I gave you the most important job in my eyes, which is to take care of those lands. You already know that I must be between Castile and Leon and Rome, it is not easy for me, but I know that I can count on you and your gifts as a prudent, wise and pragmatic man. Have you had the opportunity to probe the terrain of the military, the defenses?

Like any good prudent and cautious man in formal talks and in a delicate situation, he answers that question with simplicity.

That's right Baron, have the honor to receive me at the Military Academy of the Congregation and in the field I shared a holy army with the Order of Lousianna defending the diocese of Artois and Rennes a few months ago, distinction that I managed to receive as Knight of Insiduil and Prefect Hispanic in the Episcopal Guard, Sir.

The baron of Monterado listened carefully to what the Lieutenant had to say. More than evident was how prepared he was, he had not been wrong with the decision to put him in charge of his lands in moments of absence. Legrat's invited him, with an almost imperceptible gesture, to approach the table where the cartography of the fief rested.

- Your military training, and experience, precedes you. I have not been mistaken with you, and I hope you will fully fulfill the task that I have entrusted to you, of Albarrasín - Enrique pointed out the limits of the fief, after which he pronounced himself - I need to make rounds in these areas, keep them under surveillance, set up guard posts and May all God be requisitioned. In our absence they have looted the cellars, they have taken some barrels of our wine with them and we do not want to happen again, do you have it?

First of all, he inquired something else.

- Tomorrow we will move to the Casa dei Delfini, our new property in Rome. I want you to join us.

"

The Baron invited him to come to see some maps that were on his desk, satisfied with his response, he left him some instructions to monitor the Monterado lands and attended what he ordered.

"No problem, that's why Barón, we will place some towers in the specific places, especially inlets and around the vineyards every 250 meters, everything that enters or leaves your lands will be watched, Barón Legrat.

On the trip to your new house, count on my presence to escort you without problems. "

That morning he began with the hard work of his first round around the perimeter prepared to keep curious people away from the property and especially from the vineyards.
Baron Legrat had entrusted him with the security of those lands and could not disappoint him.

Leaving the barracks, his little escort was already waiting for him with his great white sorrel ready for his mount.
At his signal, the group took off at a great gallop as they walked through the various towers that were placed around the perimeter with guards equipped with crossbows and others of good aim with their bows and swords ready to be used if necessary.

A new shipment was ready to leave the lands of Monterado for Milan, an order of great importance for the Lord of Monterado and all possible escorts would be needed given the conflict situation that had been taking place for a long time in different areas of Italy and the Empire.
He himself would be in charge of the escort that would guard the commercial caravan that would take the amphorae of olive trees to the duchy of Milan

Casa dei Delfini
Roma. Abril MCDLXIX

Roma. April of MCDLXIX

The Roman residence of the Baron of Monterado has been experiencing moments of much traffic lately; he had had to return to Rome after being called by the Roman Senate. Some days ago he had been notified that the lieutenant of the barony was taking charge of everything inherent in feudal commerce and administration, and that reassured him.

Monterado, along with Cifuentes, were part of the largest estate that Legrat had built. Now, in Rome, he could take the time to reflect on other matters. The commercialism that was doing so well to his estate, had to bring income to Rome to pay taxes and the maintenance of the House where he resided in certain seasons, like that one.

Enrique took a seat at his desk, looking at an abstract infinity and thinking about so many things. The letters that came from Monterado were encouraging: good business, good olive and grape harvests, good harvests, good tributes, good protection. The Templar, charged with guarding Monterado, seemed to have turned it into a fortress of the Order over which he presided, but this did not disturb Legrat as long as his other men remained where they should be.

- Send an emissary to Monterado; that he indicates to Monderak de Albarrasín that he has to appear in Rome for an audience with us.

It was located in the remote part of the town where the guard barracks were located, a place where those who had a day off from their duties rested and could stay in the barracks where they take advantage of doing different personal tasks, reading, working in carpentry, training freely. and other outdoor necessities.
At that moment a messenger arrives from the Villa asking to speak to the Master.
To her surprise when she read that note, she couldn't keep the Baron waiting.

"Your presence is requested before the Baron of Monterado in the Casa dei Delfini", he thanks the emissary with a silver coin and goes to the stables to prepare his horse, a trip to the Roman city awaited him to meet with Don Enrique Legray Barón de Monterado.

- ¡Bienvenido a Roma, querido amigo!

- Contadme otras novedades. El orden, la seguridad, las defensas. Ponedme al tanto de todo.

······················································

Peaceful Rome, envied by many for concentrating the power of the Holy See and also being the residence of some noble pontiffs who had requested it. Enrique Legrat was back in Rome after some time away from the Eternal City, his presence in those streets, and, particularly, in that house was due to certain needs that had haunted his mind for some time.

Monterado was his most important inheritance outside the Castilian borders, he knew that he was in good hands, but it was also true that he needed to have first-hand all the information of all the events they had had during his absence from those lands.

Monterado's lieutenant was a man of mettle, and a Templar. He imagined that nothing bad could happen, that under his command and under his command all the territory that belonged to him would be safe. But, there was always a but. He disturbed her for so long outside the barony.

Soon the arrival of Abarrasín's was announced, the doors of his desk opening wide and revealing a serene and upright man.

- Welcome to Rome, dear friend! - His greeting was accompanied by a strong handshake and a warm hug. After the welcome he ordered him to take a seat, while one usher served two glasses of wine and another arranged a meal with some snacks - The news that comes to me from Monterado is encouraging, I know with good hand that you have done a wonderful management and that the land produces as always. Milan, Naples, Sicily, it is said that our products arrive there. I congratulate you!

Enrique was not a man to sit still. He rose from his seat, and was watching him out of the corner of his eye.

- Tell me other news. Order, security, defenses. Let me know about everything.

The Master had been received with great enthusiasm by the Baron and after some warm greetings of welcome and good omen comments from the Baron, he heard him ask:

Tell me other news. Order, security, defenses. Let me know about everything.

Standing up with enthusiasm, he approached the desk and, taking out a small scroll of parchment from his sack, unfolded a kind of sketch of the central part of the lands of Monterado and shows his Lord

_________________________________________________________-

Well, here is the answer to your question and pointing to parts of the map explains:

First of all, the main residence is here, and several nodes in the route of the main road, we have placed a wall with an iron gate to control or defend any hostile or banditry attempt that wants to break into your residence.

Here, where you can see the main entrance to their lands, there is a double wall. Wall 1 is the one that we have been building to have a more controlled perimeter beyond the main entrance, with several external towers where we have archers and crossbowmen guarding in turns 24 hours a day.

wall 2, are the original walls that we had when we arrived.

Between the walls and the residence, we would have the fields and the houses of the villagers who help us with the crops.
