For a moment the cardinal closed his eyes and opened them when he felt the rays of the heavenly star moving on his face. God was here. He was actually always here and Kali, unlike most he met, always felt the presence of the Almighty and that was something he was now very proud or reassured of. He saw it as a sign that he was on the Right Path, the Path of God. It was a special grace but also a certain addiction, because of course there were times when God turned away and a certain emptiness prepared itself in Kalixtus, but here in the service in the presence of God as a priest he always felt the closeness to Him especially. It was important for the cardinal that people gained this awareness that a priest is chosen. He was ordered on this mission, an inner, all-devouring urge. A call and that's why it was called a vocation. You have been called by God to be chosen to serve HIM - until your last breath. It is not a service from which you could resign, from which you could step back. Secularity was naïve to believe that its responsibility for time would be even remotely comparable to that of a cleric called for the period of life. A politician can resign, he can put his position up for election, he can be re-elected and voted out of office. A cleric cannot do all that, he is and remains in office as long as it pleases God.

But this is precisely the question at issue, does it please God? There is no clear answer to this, because God reveals Himself differently to everyone. Many have dreams, others have signs, some only feel and do not see, others see but do not feel. For Kalixtus, God reveals himself in signs of creation. The flower that blossoms in the shade and the sun that comes to his face. The warmth, the tingling of the ether, when his spirit, his soul united with this magnificence of the divine creation and renewed the alliance over and over again. This was the omnipotence of the Lord. For Kalixtus, a moment that always makes him raise all the hairs on his body. True encounter - God is unconditional love.

He opened his eyes and they reflected the light from the apse which was illuminated by the sunlight and the Cardinal who was enveloped by the light back into the darker nave of the church. Because of this effect, the cardinal could no longer see the visitors, but he knew they were there. To see what is invisible was the business of the true cleric.

Behold, my brothers and sisters. The light of God illuminates the sanctity of this sanctuary on the Feast of Renewal.

But do we know what renewal is? Do we know what the commandment of the new triggers in us. Do we know why the Children of God had to walk in the desert for 40 days. Why God destroyed Oanylone. Do we know why the prophet Christos walked in the desert for 40 days and resisted all temptations.

The answer is always the same - it is the love of God. It is only through this love that we are saved and this love that saves us. Love is the reason for our existence, because we are born from the love of our parents, baptized by the love of God and loved in His grace as His child. He saves Mhour's clan after 40 days of desert and gave them manna in the form of the angel with the delicious message of renewal of inner and outer faith and friendship. It is the love that triumphed in Oanylone when the archangels ascended and the demon princes were banished to hell. It was the love that made Christos resist the temptation.

Brothers and sisters. There is no greater power than love; it is the essence of God. It is God Himself. The one who lives in love cannot fail. He experiences the holiness of the true resurrection. He experiences God's true nature.

In theology, this is a clear symbol the entire dogma is permeated with this exact realization.

Isn't this a wonderful thought? A hopeful light. Evil will never triumph. Because we are children of love. Children of God. Realize this and realize the implications of this thought.

    Rise up in prayer

The God of light and life
      shine upon us.

Let us feel the fire of love
and warm our hearts with his
      embers of life,
that we may know his goodness
      and his mercy
which are abundant for each one of us.

      Let him raise us up
when suffering paralyses our lives -
and let us hear his voice when he calls:

      I want you to live.

May God, who is light for us by day and by night, grant us this:

      Amen.

Felipe also closed his eyes for a few moments of meditation as the Cardinal, standing beside the altar of the basilica, seemed to be experiencing a revelation before the audience. It was said that God showed himself to his most devoted children in the most capricious and disparate ways: rarely did the Spaniard feel that close and intimate presence of the creator, He was capricious and elusive like a hummingbird. At that time he felt lonely, like a son abandoned by his beloved father for too long: he thought that the Lent and spiritual preparation could bring about that longed-for encounter. But God was silent. Something he was doing was offending the Almighty, perhaps the pride of thinking himself more important than the rest of the faithful and therefore more deserving of a mystical revelation than anyone else.

When the Spaniard opened his eyes, Kalixtus was still in his spiritual ecstasy. He envied him for it, but he was not sure if such a long wait was not part of the staging. Felipe coughed to interrupt his colleague
- Cough cough - Then he regretted doing so, he had no right to judge him. Then he listened to his words about the power of God's love and how it was shown in many passages of the Book of Virtues. But that love was not simply a theological term, nor a word written in ink on a page, but the true testimony of the existence of God himself.

He prayed too, as did the rest of the faithful attending mass:

The God of light and life shine upon us.

Let us feel the fire of love and warm our hearts with his embers of life,
that we may know his goodness and his mercy which are abundant for each one of us.

Let him raise us up when suffering paralyses our lives -
and let us hear his voice when he calls: I want you to live.

May God, who is light for us by day and by night, grant us this: Amen.

Kalixtus read today's reading from the Hagiography of Saint Mhour:

    Citation:
The history of my people (by Mhour)

The Destruction of Oanylone was only the beginning of our punishment. We called it “Ash Wednesday".

There were seven groups now speaking different languages and suspicious of each other, but with very little food ... Our group took the direction of the sunset and walked for forty days.

During the forty days we had very little to feed us, just this strange nourishing plant that had previously only been used to feed pigs and bread found on one of the ships which had fled the city and some fish that were reserved for the children before we left. We therefore replaced food with prayer, and the pleasures of penance. The people cursed, having preferred pleasure to prayer and contemplation.

On the fortieth day, Oane appeared to us. Those who had seen his statue in the great temple, recognized him directly and knelt, striking their chests, begging him to intercede for them with Jah. He went to my father and said:

    Citation:
"Mhour thy son is the first born from the day of the ashes. You have guided your tribe forty days in deprivation and prayer without asking anything for yourself. Know that your prayers have been heard and that tomorrow will be a bountiful day for you. You will stop lamenting the faults of the elders, because Our Creator said, "I will judge according to the life one leads", not for the sins of their fathers.

You must live for the future and not mourn the past, be the guide of thy people, and teach your son, who will open the way that leads to the prophets.

Jah only asks for your love and you can only give it to him if you love yourselves. Forgiveness of sins is given to those who repent, but you are banished if you recur against the given word.

Tomorrow is a gift from Jah. Celebrate because it is the day of renewal, that the past forty days are not the image of your life. Do not seek Jah in suffering, but remember that you have suffered not only for what is lost. I will let you continue your life. Rest and celebrate with all that is left of the food and wine, for tomorrow will be the day of renewal."

My tribe therefore feasted, those who still had bread shared it with their neighbour. Wine was also shared to the last drop, and this day was the first ‘fat’ day since the wednesday of ashes. Everyone slept like me, that is to say, like a large baby, which I was, and waking up with the sun the people saw that there was a spring flowing nearby, and a little further on, an oasis filled with fruit and animals.

In the center of the oasis stood a pillar on which was fixed the tablet of Oane, the tablet containing the commandments of Jah. This stone which had been engraved by the fingers of the Creator and entrusted to the first community to never forget that beyond love, we were also linked to the law of creation. This stone which nevertheless had disappeared with the city was there … intact, but written in a language that we did not know how to read anymore ... But the laws of the Most High, we were not ready to forget again.

It is there, close by the pillar that most of my people settled. For over forty years of peace and happiness we have lived here, and we pray to Jah to forgive his children. Others continued towards the sea and beyond the sea, to extend the human race from the creation.

It was time for the sermon and the cardinal rose to climb the pulpit. He rarely did, but today was one of those days when he felt it was important.

So he stood there like a statue come to life wrapped in the precious liturgical vestments with the red mitre of St Jean d'Orlean and the crosier of St John the Martyr. His hand raised, he commanded silence. The silence of the church was always something magical, the Cardinal was able to control the whole atmosphere and so his voice from the pulpit seemed like the waves crashing against a powerful rock. It rushed and intoxicated and enveloped all present in the spray of his presence. He demanded of the listener, he forced them to open themselves to him with all their senses. The smell of incense, the visual appearance and of course the words that washed down on them. Kalixtus was an experience in himself, his words were clear and dogmatic. They did not tolerate a hint of doubt and the violence in which the cardinal spoke could only be understood as incarnation. Kalixtus never left any doubt that he was the master of his profession and made the cathedrals sing and the pagans pray. So he struck with his staff at the crucial passages and underlined the truth he spoke with all his might. He pointed to the people and said.

You, children of God, sinners and beloved towards the Almighty. You were born into this world as guardians. In recent weeks I have preached many sermons throughout the Sacrum Romanum and beyond on a subject that is important to me - respect. It is a derivative of love, because without love and its affection as a patient sister, respect is inconceivable.

We do not develop respect without affection. People and things that seem indifferent to us are treated disrespectfully. For some it is the sword, the peasant, the slave, the cattle, the dog, the woman, the man, the child and for many recently the state and the monarchy as well as the church and God himself. An outrage, a sacrilege. The immutable order of the world rests with its roots in the truthfulness of faith. And faith?

What about faith? It rests in the virtues and is itself a virtue - that which the gracious Archangel Galadrielle embodies. To believe is not to know. So it is said, yet some of us think we know and yet know nothing. This is true charlatanry and this surrounds us, my brothers and sisters. It is the creature that encounters us in this shameful way. Do not entrust yourselves to false friends. Trust in God and His salvation, because it is real. Behold what happened after 40 days of fasting, what happened after 40 days of desert? God sent the angel and delivered mankind from its fate of suffering and death. A new era dawned when mankind realised that faith saves them, even after Oanylone God was not gone, God was not absent. He kept the promise he made to us on the day of baptism. He stands by our side and like the archangel Galadrielle he carries us away, in days of doubt, over all obstacles.

Is this nothing? Is that not incredible? Is this not truthfulness itself?
I say yes. I say YES. It is a true celebration of renewal when we give ourselves fully to it, when we realise that our task is equal to a mission. That mission is to be a guardian, a guardian of the earth, of creation itself. We have the task of protecting nature, the environment, human beings, our society and all those who depend on it in a cycle of friendship and mercy. We must realise that we are not alone on this earth and that we have been given a special task because of our intellect and our position with God our Almighty Father. The protection of creation is elementary and it starts with all of us. In our minds. In our behaviour towards ourselves and others.

Renewal means that we change, that we reflect. 40 days of desert to realise that NOTHING, NOTHING in this world can be taken for granted, because everything comes from GOD. He alone is the Alpha and Omega. Remember who you are learn respect for creation, for people, for otherness, for the creatures around us. Learn respect for institutions, do not forget that your life is finite and your debt, which was not paid off in your lifetime, will be taken over by those who come after you. Do not waste yourselves. Live and love - pray and believe - cry, laugh, weep and mourn. Live and reflect. Reflect, use all your talent, your senses and your beauty from within and without.

You are children of God, you are the past, present and future. Shape them in the consciousness of mutual respect. Learn the grace of misericordias - eternal mercy by giving preference to love over all hatred and never allow your faith to waver, because God does not abandon us. God is the revelation and his love is his gift to us - let us be worthy and follow his commandment.

Let us confess the faith as it is handed down to us by Holy Mother Church through HIM and in HIM and with HIM - thanks be to God and the holy prophets:

I believe in God, the Almighty Most High,
      Creator of heaven and earth..,
      the hells and the paradise,
Judge of our souls at the hour of death.

      And in Aristotle, his prophet,
      son of Nicomachus and Phaetis,
      sent to teach misguided men
the wisdom and divine laws of the universe.

      I also believe in Christos,
      born of Maria and Giosep.
He dedicated his life to us, showed the way to Paradise.
And so it was that, after suffering Ponce,
he died in martyrdom to save us.
He returned to the sun where Aristotle awaited him at the right hand of the Almighty.

      I believe in the work of God;
      in the One and Indivisible Holy Roman Aristotelian Church;
      in the communion of saints;
      in the forgiveness of sins;
      in life everlasting.

      AMEN

Now Kalixtus felt like singing and the Cardinal sang an old song in Occitan. The language of his childhood - a song that encourages the faithful and invites them to devotion - devotion to God himself:

    Pax in nomine Domini.

Fetz Marcabrus los motz el so.
    Aujatz que di:
Com nos a fait, per so doussor,
    Lo Seingnorius celestiaus
    Probet de nos un lavador,
C'anc, fors outramar, no'n fon taus,
    En de lai deves Josaphas:
E d'aquest de sai vos conort.
    ...

When he arrived at the altar he turned and looked at the people and even if they were only a few, for him it was as if there were thousands, because every soul is a gift from eternity - immeasurably precious, because it is God's presence in us.

The acolyte brought the bread which Kalixtus blessed and broke:

He who begins all his work in your name sows good seed.
Bless our work now, that it may prosper, that we may accomplish that which benefits and builds, teaches and helps.

    Amen

Then he distributed the bread to the acolytes and altar boys and of course to the visitors of the service.

With a smile on his lips, he now raised his hands in blessing and spoke anointingly:

    The Lord bless you and keep you;
    The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem.

Let us say one last prayer together:

    Almighty God and Father,

it is love that leads us to you and it is love that strengthens in us the will to turn back and repent.
and it is your love that makes us hope for eternal peace in the solar paradise.
    May this love never end.

Through Christos, the Prophet, who reigns in unity with Aristotle for all eternity.

    Amen

Kalixtus raised his voice for the final canon - the Te Deum and then he would disappear into the sacristy.

23th of May 1470

Kalixtus listened to the music in his basilica while sorting white roses in a golden vase.

The cardinal seemed very thoughtful and melancholy today. A particular restlessness gripped his spirit. A closeness he felt, a warming hand that could wipe away the tears and take away the pain of his soul.

He smelled the scent of the flowers and while he closed his eyes for a moment to dive into the ether in search of HIM, he pricked himself on one of the thorns. A twitch went through the cardinal's body and he looked down at his bleeding index finger. One or two drops of his ruby red blood wetted the blossoms of the rose that pricked him.

It seemed strangely beautiful and unique, the way the blood gathered on the fresh, virginal white of the rose, wetting it and yet not sullying it.

    Dialectica Divinus whispered the cardinal....

The cardinal, wrapped in the robes of his rank, sat down on the throne in the apse and looked at the vase of roses from there. What heavenly music, and before his inner eye the mandala of divine harmony was revealed, in the centre of which God himself dwelt, and his gaze was revelation and his gesture... Salvation.

Towards mid-afternoon, the Cardinal had lit the candles and called the faithful into the church with sacral music and the bells of St. John. Meanwhile, the Cardinal himself changed in the sacristy and waited there until the assistants, altar servers and acolytes were ready. It was part of the procedure and Kalixtus enjoyed the light merriment of the youth in the next room, which manifested itself in excited whispering.

Kalixtus himself sat at his desk. His acolytes, who had helped him dress, were sorting out the liturgical implements for today's ceremony, and Kalixtus gazed into the flame of a candle as if he could see in it the veracity of a great truth. Perhaps he spoke too rarely about the flames, the cardinal thought to himself. We take flames so much for granted, yet their use and existence is a true miracle, and they are a symbol of Genesis. Of the divine cycles that keep the world in motion. Heat and cold. God's dialectic. The cardinal's current theme and the title of one of his new books.

One encounters it constantly. Fascinating. He noted a word in ancient Greek: πορεία - it meant "to be in motion". His gaze seemed lost in thought but he was, as always, completely with himself as the music dictated his thoughts. He knew when it was time to get stranded in the here to report on the there.

It was the feast of the Ascension of Christos, and the Roman sun was already beginning to descend to reach the horizon, but it was still hot, very hot. It was the hour of vespers because one of the city's many bell towers had already chimed six o'clock in the evening. Felipe crossed the square in front of the Roman basilica of San Giovanni as the sound of the bells thundered over the flocks of pigeons taking flight into the bright evening sky. He was dressed not as a cardinal, but in the Roman fashion, like one of the young men of the city; the only difference in his attire that might characterise him as a prelate was his pastoral ring and a discreet silver pectoral cross that hung from a velvet ribbon around his neck.

The young priest removed his black felt cap as he entered the basilica and sanctified himself with holy water. Mass had not yet begun, although there were already parishioners in the main nave. Meanwhile, the Spanish prelate went to one of the side naves and knelt in one of the confessionals: he too needed to reconcile himself with God by acknowledging his many sins and making an act of contrition and penance. In perfect Italian he said:
- In nome di Dio, di Aristotele e del suo Messia Christos. Amen.- Felipe was sincere with the priest, because it was precisely the men closest to God who were most tempted by the Nameless Creature, and therefore most in danger of falling short of Love. Lust? yes; he was about eighteen, and like all young men of his age he too had impure thoughts, it was in his nature, though his commitment and piety were stronger in him. Gluttony? sometimes; the boy was not particularly fond of food, he only did it to feed himself, but sweets were his undoing, he ate them beyond the mere need to fill his stomach, the pleasure. Was he proud? yes, certainly; it was one of the sins he tried most to keep away from himself, but sometimes it was complicated, tremendously complicated. Greed? he believed he was generous, but the simple fact of believing he was free of temptation made him lack self-criticism; one could always be more generous, more charitable, be closer to those in need. And anger? he didn't usually show it, but he also got angry and sometimes committed injustices with the people around him because of his anger. Acedia? was one of the sins that worried him most: spiritual death; he always tried to keep himself busy daily in prayer and in the study of religion, but sometimes, when faced with a great burden or responsibility, he would evade it with excuses to other obligations or even pleasures. Was he envious? Yes, absolutely; perhaps not in material goods, but in spiritual ones: he envied the more clairvoyant minds like that of the elder Arnarion, or the deep spirituality of Kalixtus... that is, he envied the virtues of others, because they were difficult to attain and had to be developed over a lifetime.

After the blessing, Felipe got up and went to one of the benches, sitting with other neighbours of the rione, waiting for the mass of Cardinal Kalixtus to begin. It was precisely the German cardinal's masses that brought the most peace to his spirit because of the special delicacy and attention to the liturgy: although all the priests did a good job, each one of them gave the liturgy a very personal touch; all united by the universality of the Church, but each one expressed with a different devotion.

Kalixtus dispensed with a large procession and instead of the bishop's crozier he himself carried the crucifix of gold aloft as he entered the basilica from the sacristy.

It was a stronger symbol as today's feast day was very difficult in many ways.

The Baculifer carried his crosier and a priest carried the Book of Virtues. Kalixtus crossed himself before the altar and spoke: E nomine Deus et due prophetae Aristoteles et Christos. Amen.

He turned to the community and his gaze was kind, but deep inside there was a certain sadness. Where might this have come from? Perhaps it was the theme, or a deeper recognition. Kalixtus listened to the Introit and his expression turned a little tender. His thoughts came together in a pattern and he was completely with HIM. So once again the ageing cardinal felt the calming and soothing power of the Almighty, who stood by his side today where he needed Him and where he longed for Him.

The music ended and Kalixtus' gaze fixed on the crowd as he hit the floor with the crucifix, creating a thunderous sound in the chapel.

Today, the cardinal's voice rose above all the noise, is about the suffering of Christos, his redemption and ascent to paradise.

Today it is about an example of superhumanity. An example that through the centuries, indeed through the millennia, has set an example of greatness, bravery, courage, loyalty and righteousness.

Today is about how we live our lives, how we reflect, how we do our work, how we treat our neighbours and friends, how we respect or despise ourselves.

My friends, today is about the ups and downs of a whole life and how we face difficulties, conflicts and complications. How we maintain our dignity in the face of a storm of hatred, vanity and resentment.

Welcome to the Basilica di San Giovanni dei Martiri for this festive service on the Ascension of Christos.

Let us pray, so that this will only be a limited therapy session.
A smile came across the Cardinal's face, he knew that many always saw him as lecturing and that was also part of his job, however, today it is also about more:

      Almighty God,

you have connected heaven and earth through your prophets.
Where we humans give ourselves away,
      where we consider love,
      where we unite in goodness
and overcome hatred and strife -
      there heaven and earth touch,
so that peace may come among us.

Guide and lead us on this path,
      And give us your blessing

      Amen

This was followed by a Hallelujah to the Ascension of Christos

Kalixtus stepped to the ambo and opened the Book of Virtues to the appropriate place:

We hear from The Life of Christos
Chapter XVI - " His Death and Ascent into Paradise "

    Citation:
Christos was whipped by the guards for more than an hour, but not a sound escaped his lips during all that time. He endured their most violent blows with his calm and equanimous manner.

Then the torturers mocked his faith and insulted God, hoping to unleash his anger. But he never answered them, even when they tied him with ropes that they tightened with pulleys, according to the wishes of the chief priest.
Christos remained calm, as if he were made of marble, in the face of the cruelty of these men, alone with his sorrow and grief, yet sustained by faith in God. His face was never so beautiful as it was at that time. His torment had disappeared and only the expression of deep love and greatest inner peace remained in his form.

The Romans and the pagans decided to continue with more severe punishments. So they ordered that the crucifixion should now take place.

They nailed Christos to a large wooden cross, which they then lifted up the hill. Christos was now raised above all, towering over the other people... like a lamb he had been sacrificed on the altar of established power, for he had challenged the society of the time and its false values.

After hours of torment Christos died... torment during which he prayed to the Most High and looked down at the people. It was in the evening, as the air cooled and the sky darkened, that he released his soul with a sigh.

Suddenly a long beam of light, coming from the sky, pierced the darkness and the threatening clouds, and framed Christo's body. Without this halo of light disappearing from view, the sky was filled with thunder and suddenly terrible lightning bolts descended and struck the ground as punishment for all those who committed this heinous crime.... It continued with an outburst of the violence of the elements, a drumming rain fell that drove the Romans from the hill of the condemned and softened the earth, washing it clean of the blood of Christos, the blood that was soon seen streaming down the hill, mixed with the blood, sweat and tears of the other condemned.

After a moment, however, nature calmed down, the rain stopped, the lightning strikes died down, the rumbling thunder ceased and the clouds moved away, displaced by the glow of light that now took over the whole hill.

At that moment, amidst the blessed glow, we saw a cloud of heavenly angels appear. All of them came down from heaven in the greatest grace, flying in the utmost nobility. They took the body of the Messiah, guide and mirror of divinity, and lifted it up to heaven, taking it with them so that it might join the throne of God.

It had become quiet in the basilica, which surprised no one, because it was a serious, important and depressing play that was being read there. The agony of the prophet and his cruel death, but the redemption itself.

The Cardinal, with his haunting voice, was able to transform this deep, painful experience beyond the centuries into the present day and make it present for the people. Present and tangible.

Kalixtus thought about this passage and his gaze rested on the people who came to this service today.

They were good people, people who do their jobs, who serve society and thus all of us. In them rested the core that Christos made clear.

In his sacrifice, the Messiah Christos, our Prophet, demonstrates the ability to suffer, the sincerity and the much sought word of integrity. He does not allow his tormentors to punish him, he does not allow them to win and break him despite all humiliation, despite all cruelty and despite all suffering.

Christos in this moment gives an insight into the tremendous strength of a man who was prepared to die for his convictions.

His life became a symbol - death became strength and resurrection became promise and redemption.

God very rarely reveals himself in such a direct and immediate way but he does. He does and he does something that is often overlooked.

He does not punish the tormentors. He flexes his muscles, yes, he sends his angels to carry Christos to heaven, but he does not kill the tormentors. Why?

Because every person on their erroneous path, can repent in their lifetime. It is the choice we have, the power we have been given to make a free choice. We are free to choose whether we follow the creature that demonstrates the power of the strongest or whether we follow the true strength, the true power. Namely, God's demonstrated in the Christ's ability to suffer.

God's judgement takes place only in death. He grants respite from eternity in hell or paradise.

This is, as it were, in the contemplation of this sacred text. It is also part of the feast that is celebrated today. It is an important aspect because it concerns all of us.

We are sinners, each one of us. We indulge in different sins. In the eyes of God, each is burdened differently. A burden that rests on the soul and makes us heavy, sluggish and sick. A burden from which we must and can free ourselves in our lifetime. It is our path, our golden archway, through which we must pass, but each one must also make his own decision.

God gives Christos eternal life in paradise. He sends his angels to fetch the maltreated, suffered and destroyed body. Christos trustingly places his life, his fate, in God's hands. Christos knew that his death had been decided. So he could give a final example and demonstrate God's omnipotence, greatness and truthfulness in this act of redemption,

Redemption that can be granted to all of us and for which we want to pray together, as Holy Mother Church taught us:

      Credo in Deum,
      Altissimum Omnipotentem,
      Creatorem caeli et terrae,
      Inferos et paradisi,
      Ultima hora animae judicem nostrae

      Et in Aristotelem, prophetam,
      Nicomaqui Phaetique filium,
      Missum ut sapientiam et universi
      Divas leges errantibus hominibus erudiret

      Credo etiam in Christum,
      Natum ex Maria et Ioseph,
Vitam dedit ut nobis paradisi viam monstraret
Sic, postquam sub Pontio passus est
      Propter salutem
      Nostram martyr perivit
      Consecutus est Solem
Ubi Aristoteles ad Altissimi dexteram eum expectabat

      Credo in Divinam Actionem,
Sanctam Ecclesiam aristotelicianam, romanam, unam et indivisibilem
      Sanctorum communionem,
      Peccatorum remissionem,
      Vitam aeternam.

      AMEN

    Almighty God,

you have connected heaven and earth through your prophets.
Where we humans give ourselves away,
    where we consider love,
    where we unite in goodness
and overcome hatred and strife -
    there heaven and earth touch,
so that peace may come among us.

Guide and lead us on this path,
    And give us your blessing

    Amen

His voice joined the rest of the parishioners as Cardinal Kalixtus invited them to prayer after a few kind words of welcome, which also served to teach the faithful the importance of that day, the day of Christos' ascension. The task of a priest was not only to show the word of God, but also to explain it, so that the faithful could see these teachings reflected in their daily lives: they were not golden words written on sheets of parchment, but the living testimony of God through his prophets, apostles and saints.

After the reading of the Book of Virtues, the chapter on the death of Christos that any theologian like Felipe knew very well, the divine liturgy continued with the homily of the Germanic cardinal: it was the favourite part of the liturgy when Kalixtus celebrated, because that is when his brilliant vocation as a teacher and a man of faith shone most brightly. Beautiful words, always balanced in Aristotelian orthodoxy, which allowed the audience to deepen and reflect on the purest and most intimate sense of dogma. The most intense part for Felipe was "He does not allow his tormentors to punish him, he does not allow them to win and break him despite all humiliation, despite all cruelty and despite all suffering". Truly along with friendship, it was the Prophet's willingness to self-giving and abnegation that became pure inspiration for the faithful.

Finally, Felipe also prayed, with narrowed eyes, the Creed, a synthesis of the beliefs of the Aristotelians.

    Credo in Deum,
    Altissimum Omnipotentem,
    Creatorem caeli et terrae,
    Inferos et paradisi,
    Ultima hora animae judicem nostrae

    Et in Aristotelem, prophetam,
    Nicomaqui Phaetique filium,
    Missum ut sapientiam et universi
    Divas leges errantibus hominibus erudiret

    Credo etiam in Christum,
    Natum ex Maria et Ioseph,
Vitam dedit ut nobis paradisi viam monstraret
Sic, postquam sub Pontio passus est
    Propter salutem
    Nostram martyr perivit
    Consecutus est Solem
Ubi Aristoteles ad Altissimi dexteram eum expectabat

    Credo in Divinam Actionem,
Sanctam Ecclesiam aristotelicianam, romanam, unam et indivisibilem
    Sanctorum communionem,
    Peccatorum remissionem,
    Vitam aeternam.

    Amen.

Kalixtus spoke the confession of guilt in his impressive voice, which echoed in the mighty basilica and made its way to all areas:

    Confiteor Deo omnipotenti,
    beato Michaeli Archangelo,
beato Joanni Martirii, sanctis Apostoli Tito,
omnibus Sanctis, et tibi, pater, quia peccavi
    nimis cogitatione verbo, et opere

Kalixtus beats his chest three times:

mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
Ideo precor beatum Michaelem Archangelum, beatum Joannem,
    sanctos Apostolo Titus,
omnes Sanctos, et te, pater, orare pro me ad
    Dominum Deum nostrum.

An acolyte brought the bread which Kalixtus took from the basket and blessed it before holding it up and saying: Bread is food but it is also a symbol of friendship, which of all the virtues Christos embodied is the one that binds us most deeply in tradition.

    Friendship creates peace
    Friendship creates freedom
    Friendship gives love
    Friendship builds bridges
    Friendship ends sorrow

    Live in eternal, Aristotelian friendship:

Misereatur vestri omnipotens Deus, et dimissis
peccatis vestris, perducat vos ad vitam
      aeternam.

(May Almighty God have mercy on you! He
forgive you of your sins and lead you to
      to eternal life)

    Everyone joined in the Amen.

      Indulgentiam, absolutionem, et remissionem
      peccatorum vestorum, tribuat vobis omnipotens
      et misericors Dominus.

(Forbearance, forgiveness and pardon of your sins
      the Lord almighty grant you..)

    Amen

Then he broke the bread and shared it with the congregation, giving each one a piece of the bread and saying:

      Quod ore sumpisimus, Domine, pura
mente capiamus, et de munere temporali fiat
      nobis remedium sempiternum

(What we have received with the mouth
Lord, let us also receive with a pure heart.
with a pure heart, and from this temporal
from this temporal gift eternal refreshment.)

Now came the liturgical climax - the blessing.

So he lifted a finger with a mild smile as he raised his voice again:

At the end of this service, I now give the blessing for you.

Kalixtus stepped in front of the altar and spread his hands in blessing:

      The Lord bless you and keep you;
      The Lord make his face to shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee;
The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem.

    Oremus

      Sumptis, Domine,

      Amen.

    Benedicat vos omnipotens Deus

    Ita Missa est!

With that, the clergyman stepped in front of the altar and descended the steps to join the altar servers who were posted in front of him in the procession to the sound of the farewell chant: "Te Deum laudamus" which clarifies the sacred action, the blessings. They now go out purified and carried.

He stopped in front of Cardinal Felipe and spoke:

In principio erat Verbum et Verbum
erat apud Deum, et Deus erat Verbum. Hoc erat
in principio apud Deum. Omnia per ipsum facta
sunt, et sine ipso factum est nihil quod factum
est; in ipso vita erat, et vita erat lux hominum; et
lux in tenebris lucet, et tenebrae eam non
comprehenderunt. Fuit homo missus a Deo cui
nomen erat Joannes. Hic cenit in testimonium, et
testimonium perhiberet de lumine, ut omnes
crederent per illum. Non erat ille lux, sed ut
testimonium perhiberet de lumine. Erat lux vera
quae illuminat omnem hominem venientem in
hunc mundum. In mundo erat, et mundus per
ipsum factus est et mundus eum non cognovit.
In propria venit, et sui eum non receperunt.
Quotquot autem receperunt eum, dedit eis
potestatem filios Dei fieri; his qui credunt in
nomine eius, qui non ex sanquinibus, neque ex
voluntate viri, sed ex deo nati sunt.

Kalixtus painted a cross on Felipe's forehead and eyelids:

      Et vidimus gloriam ejus
gloriam quasi Unigenti a Patre, plenum gratiae
      et veritatis.

The word from the Missio Joannem was a commandment of the CDF and Kalixtus represented this mission even 1400 years after John's death.

    Oremus

      Sancta Michael Archangele, defende
nos in proelio; contra nequitiam et insidias
diaboli esto praesidium. Imperet illi Deus,
      supplices deprecamur: tuque, Princeps militiae
      caelestis, Satanam aliosque spiritus malignos,
quit ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in
mundo, diviana virtute in infernum detrude.

      Amen

He put his head to the forehead of the young Spanish cardinal.

Gracias, amigo mío. Reza por mí.
