--------------------------------------------------------------------------Coronation Ceremony of the Queen Aliénor Faiza

--------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------

July 25, 1470. It has been a few days since the Basilica hosted one of the most important events of the Church: The Feast in commemoration of the First Pope - Saint Titus, Prince of the Apostles.

Yes, indeed, it was possible to say that the celebration held that day was one of the biggest and best ever held. This, in fact, is one of the main characteristics of all clerics and officials of the Apostolic See - the ability to do, each time, an even more refined, even more spectacular, even more spiritual and, of course, even more glorious work.

Rome was in the middle of summer. The sun was fully radiant. While people tend to isolate themselves in winter, summer shows all the movement and life of the Holy City.

The Time was Ordinary Time. Thus, the Cardinal had requested that vases and arrangements of Chrysanthemums and Hydrangeas, all in green, were distributed throughout the Basilica. One coincidence is that this color was also the color that represented the Emerald Isle, so there was a double meaning.

On the Abside, the Banners of the Holy See and the Kingdom of Ireland indicated the event that would take place that day: the Coronation of the Queen of Ireland, and also the illustration that that Kingdom was an Aristotelian kingdom, whose monarch would rule under the blessing of the Most High.

At the central point, the Throne where His Holiness would take his seat had already been set in place.

Seating arrangements were being made. Officers of the Pontifical Guard were all around the Basilica.

The Great Basilica of St. Titus was opening its doors so that guests, prelates, clergymen, Roman officials, and citizens of the Eternal City could attend.

In the Sacristy, meanwhile, Adonnis and Francesco were finishing their preparations.

A royal procession arrived from the east, in the heat of the sun. Dozens of Hungarian and Croatian royal flags were waving on the streets of the Holy City.

The members of the royal guard, with their commander Rajnald, advanced in front. They were dedicated to ensure the safe passage of His Majesty and his entourage. When they arrived in front of the St. Titus Basilica, a horn signaled to stop. Rajnald was here for the first time in his life. He was amazed by the many wonderful buildings and churches. Just as he was impressed by the Pontifical Guard.

Despite his confusion, he tried to greet everyone properly. After that he got off his horse and walked in front of the royal carriage, waiting his king.

The road was long and tiring to Rome. I was once in the Eternal city before. On the coronation of our late king Tomislav. Back then I came on horseback. But now, I am Grandmaster of the Order of Saint Stephen and the royal secretary of His Majesty, Zederikus Fellegvári. Thus, I was convinced to travel with His Majesty in the carriage.

Next time I travel in the saddle - I thought while we were heading to the city gates. But when the procession entered the city, I forgot my bad feelings about the carriage and my upset stomach. The beautiful view caught my attention.
Once we arrived to the St. Titus Basilica, the procession stopped. Then I saw sir Rajnald, the captain of the royal guards coming to the royal carriage. Finally, I can get out of this box and stretch my legs.

The handle clacked and the door of the carriage easily and quietly opened. I was the firts one to get out. Then I stood beside the door to wait for His Majesty and the others still inside.

The flowing hills of Italy can only be rivalled in beauty with it's flowing and dashing waves in the sea. There is always a peaceful feeling I get when coming to the holy city, we leave the world outside to get closer to the Lord. Yet some tension is in the air, the Turkish infidels' invasion of Croatia weighs on me.

But today should mean some respite of that, a person I dearly admire, Alienor of the Irish isles. A pious and kind lady, well deserving of a crown made of gold as pure as her soul.

Before long the ride is over and I snap out of thought, we have reached the entrance of the St. Titus Basilica, Sir Rajnald and his knights with Hungarian and Croatian insignias take the left and right of the path respectively, as Grandmaster Lovagielme opens the door for Chancellor Leongar and I.

I step out of the carriage and salute Captain Rajnald, Grandmaster Lovagielme and the soldiers, exclaiming:

-Glory to the Lord! Glory to the homeland!-

The soldiers return the chants and I turn to the Grandmaster asking:

-If there is such a thing as being fashionably early, I believe we are it!-

I make the mark of the cross on my chest and wait for the excellencies and military dignitaries to accompany me.

It was a long trip, but fortunately Lovagielme’s company made her forget all the fatigue of the journey. The driver signals that we have arrived, and before I get out of the carriage, I quickly adjust my clothes. I hope my outfit matches the Roman fashion.

As soon as I get out of the car, I glance scrutinizingly at the clothes of the other ladies. I will join the Hungarian team shortly.

Henry had arrived, he doesn't know much about the place but took the opportunity to be early and visit Rome.
It was a very beautiful city. Much too big, the buildings had their own postcodes. It was a city where art reigned, statues, paintings, hangings, earthenware, stained glass, it represents many men who worked for the construction of all these buildings...
If only a few of these men could come to Connatch to help build the city...

The King greeted everyone.

Cardinal Sforza was supporting Cardinal Adonnis in preparing the Basilica for the solemn coronation. Everything was ready as the great church was slowly filling up with faithful.

Rome, you eternal! I came to you again. In my soul, I kneel down in front of the glory of our Church. Once, a long time ago I still had the chance to delight in your glare. We accompanied a king then too, we came to the coronation of our king. One member from the escort of those times is with us now too, grandmaster Lovagielme, the secretary of the king. Now we are the accompaniment of His Majesty Zederikus, hungarian and croat king for this notable event.

The king steps out of the carriage, I follow him. Finally, we help out the ladies-in-waiting. We go to occupy our lodgements. We still have a little time till the coronation ceremony.

Time to go to the Eternal City. Today was a highly important day for Ireland, the queen of the Irish received the crown from the hands of Saint Titus. Of course, this was no small thing, as this act in Rome legally conferred an additional rank on the ruler of Ireland. A reward for devotion to the Church but above all for loyalty. Then, the young prince went to the basilica, a little tired since he had taken advantage of the pleasures offered by the Caput Mundi.

Despite their remoteness and the waves that separated Ireland from distant Rome, the islanders had always been pious people who placed great importance on their faith. The throne of Hibernia, itself, had been founded over the ages on the island's oldest traditions, consecrated by a pagan goddess who was said to be the protector of Ireland's supreme kings. To tell the truth, the Aristotelianization of the Irish people had not changed much in this aspect : if the idols had been delivered to the flames of the purifying stakes, faith continued to be an essential pillar of the Crown which had found in the most Holy Roman Church its most sincere ally.

The first sealed letters of the kingdom had been addressed to the Church itself in the person of Cardinal Sforza for whom the Lancastre had always had admiration. Indeed, she hardly imagined placing her reign under any other auspices than those of her Holy Mother, intimately convinced that it was in devotion and loyalty to Christos' light that her beloved country would find its salvation. When finally everything was prepared to welcome the coronation, the queen had asked her closest relatives to accompany her to the City of Saint Titus. Unlike the great feasts and banquets given in Tara, the Roman coronation was - according to the good pleasure of the sovereign - sober and without useless largesse. Not that she denied the importance of the moment but on the contrary, what she considered to be a meeting between the shepherds of God and herself, faithful among the faithful, did not demand in her humble sense that the moment be submerged under floods of vain rejoicings and worldly processions.

Accompanied by eight guards with breasts stamped with the royal coat of arms, Alienor waited patiently at the doors of the basilica. Her innocent face stared at her pretty and graceful hands supporting an ebony rosary. Dressed in a gown woven of green and gold where harps, stags and other fantastic references to the history of her so beautiful country were intermingled, the Supreme's chestnut hair had been carefully covered with a long and pious white veil. On her shapely shoulders, the valets had placed the ermine mantle that two young virgins chosen by lot on the island were supporting with their hands.

After a light sign of the hand, the guards moved back. From the outside, she addressed an emotional thought to her parents and took a few steps without yet daring to tread the pavement of the Basilica. As soon as the signal was given by the cardinals, the queen would begin her march to give thanks to God and her pontiff.

    The moment had come.

The Choir intoned the Canticle that would mark the beginning of the ceremony.

From the side, the small procession made its way to the altar. Accompanied by two Bishops of the Pontifical Court, His Holiness the Pope walked, accompanied by the Cardinal Dean of the Sacred College.

Soon afterwards, the Cardinals Adonnis de Sagres and Francesco Maria followed the procession. At the epicenter of the apse stood the Pontifical Throne on which the Sovereign Pontiff sat.

The procession ended its journey and everyone took their seats.

At the altar, the Cardinals of Sagres and Sforza took their places and, with a brief signal, gave the signal for the royal cortege to enter the Basilica, following the entry of the Queen of Ireland and her path to the point in front of the altar.

When the signal was given, the royal guard stepped aside to let the queen begin her march. Followed by the two young Irish girls who were holding her long train, the sovereign finally set foot on the pavement of the sacred building. Immediately, she stopped with her head bowed and her right hand made a slight movement towards the font. Her fingertips caressed the holy water before she made the sign of the cross and silently murmured a few homages to God and his saints. With a religious calm, she continued her walk towards the altar, silently gratifying the guests present, among whom she recognized without difficulty her brother and her old uncle, but also the sovereign of the United Kingdom of Hungary and Croatia. Each of them gave the queen's veiled face a grateful look that needed no words to make itself understood.

At a sufficient distance from the papal throne, the Queen genuflected to the pontiff, Papa urbis Romae aeternae. With her face riveted to the cold floor of the basilica, she gave him her first words in a low voice :
« Holy Father, what a joy, what gratitude to be welcomed in the Eternal City. May his Holiness receive our obedience and eternal fidelity » ; Then, the ghostly and so piously draped silhouette straightened up slowly to offer a new bow of the head.

Only then did the procession continue to reach the altar where the Lancastre respectfully bowed to the prelates before bending her knees slightly, maintaining her position.
    « Your Eminences... ».

The Queen slowly approached the front of the Basilica and, gradually, the eyes of all present were fixed on the figure of the Monarch and followed her.

The Queen's expression exuded peace, and Adonnis had no doubt that this woman had indeed been chosen by God to lead his nation.

When the Queen arrived at the front, Adonnis admired her gesture of bowing with her face to the ground in honor and respect of the Sovereign Pontiff who was watching and accompanying everything.

Soon after, she stood up and Adonnis smiled in joy as the Queen greeted them.

The gaze of the Cardinal looked from one side of the Basilica to the other. There, a richly decorated chair was reserved for the Queen to sit on during the final part of the coronation. At the same time, the sacristans held red velvet cushions, decorated with embroidery stitched on gold thread, where the royal jewels rested: the scepter, the ring, the globus cruciger and the Crown.

Between the Queen and the chair, a cushion had been installed on the floor. There, the Monarch would take her oath.

Everything was perfect, according to the excellence that the occasion demanded.

In total synchrony, each on one side of the altar, Adonnis and Francesco came down from the altar and each stood beside the Queen.

After turning to those present, the Sagres blessed them: In Nómine Altíssimi, et Aristótelis et Christi. Amen!, said the Cardinal, making a sign of blessing to the Monarch and those present.

    He continued:

Brothers and Sisters, we are gathered here today to worship God and to acknowledge his will as manifested through the men and women of the Kingdom of Ireland. We will now consecrate and crown a new Queen and intercede to the Most High that she may be able, under the blessing of the Most High, to lead the Kingdom of Ireland to greatness, prosperity and unity.

Adonnis turns to the Queen and says:

Alienor, the loyalty to the ideal you have inherited is, now, your duty above all else, because this calling comes from a higher force: from God himself.

As Queen, you must always remember that the Monarchy is God's sacred mission to bless and dignify the Earth, to give all people an ideal to believe in and follow, as well as an example of nobility and duty that lifts them up and inspires them. The Monarchy is a calling from God, that's why Kings are crowned in a holy place, and not in just any place. That is why they are anointed, and why they receive their Crown from the hands of a Bishop, not a herald or a government official. What does this mean? It means that you answer to God, above all, for your actions and choices.

    A wise Monarch
, he says staring at the Queen, guides his people on the material path to prosperity and glory, and on the spiritual path to the path of true faith toward the Solar Paradise.

His steps, Your Majesty, will be the steps of all the Irish people. Your actions and will will illustrate the actions and will of all your subjects. May the Most High, Aristotle and Christos enlighten and bless you, and may you be open to divine inspiration and will, and with it, guide your Kingdom into the future.

After that, an acolyte opens the Book of Virtues and then the Cardinal reads:

While in Gaul, Patrick had a vision of a man coming to him. The man was carrying a shamrock, and some Irish whisky. He held a letter, the heading of which read “the voice of the Irish.” After drinking the whisky, Patrick could hear the sounds and voices of the people of Ireland, They were calling to him “come and walk among us Patrick, we have a need of you.”

This prompted Patrick into action, he had books written, all embossed with Shamrocks, that he will use to spread the faith in Ireland. He had a cloak made to look like it was made of shamrocks. This was another idea of his to help him blend in with the pagans. As a Shepherd he wore a green cloak to blend in with the grass, This allowed the sheep to rest peacefully as there were no bright colours to confuse them.

He traveled to Rome and met the Pope Leon. The Holy Father saw that he was genuine in his beliefs and appointed him as missionary to Ireland in 458. Also at that time, he was consecrated as bishop.

At the end of the reading, Adonnis nodded to the acolyte and then addressed those present:

This is a brief excerpt from the Hagiography of St. Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland.

Normally, at coronations, I am in the habit of talking about the divine nature of power and the bond that exists between a Monarch and God, and consequently between the Monarch and the Pontiff. But today, I thought of something different. I thought about remembering the life of St. Patrick, the great man he was, and thinking what we could learn from him.

When we study the Saint's life in more depth, we see that his first connection with Ireland was actually through the slavery he was subjected to.

However, while thinking about what to do not only with his own life, but also with the lives of all Irish people who, under his testimony, were often subjected to all kinds of evil, he was touched by divine inspiration: a shamrock, now so significant in Irish culture, fell into his book, pointing to the words God, Christos and Aristotle.

And with this, I ask everyone here present: how often do we receive the divine message and close our ears to it? How many times we, men and women of this great community, are touched by the voice of God that shows us the right way, his will for us, but facing difficulties, external pressures or even the fear of displeasing someone, we end up ignoring this voice and this message?

Yes, it is very common. Many times we choose what is easy, instead of what is right. To serve God, to spread His work, to defend the true faith is a very difficult task. Sometimes we need to confront family members, friends, powerful men and women. But what really differentiates true Aristotelians from those who pretend to follow the truth is the disposition and determination to defend what one believes, whatever the cost.

And the story of St. Patrick shows us exactly that. The willingness to defend the faith, the truth and the word of God no matter what and how much it cost.

When he received the divine message, he opened his ears and listened. He heard God's answer that guided him on what to do for his own life and that of the people who were victims of oppression.

And this answer took him to Gaul, where he could study and deepen his knowledge of the Dogma and the true faith. And there, during this pilgrimage of learning and maturing, he was again touched by the hand of God: in a vision, he saw a man carrying a shamrock, a Irish whiskey and a letter. As he drank from this whiskey, St. Patrick was able to hear the voice of the Irish people calling him, saying, "come and walk among us Patrick, we have a need of you."

There was no doubt, he knew that his mission was to spread the faith and to make sure that the Irish had knowledge of the great divine truth, brought to us by Aristotle and Christos.

He faced slavery, he faced paganism and all heretical attempts to silence his voice, but he persevered. He had faith in the truth he believed. And with this, he was victorious and overcame every obstacle and every risk to his life. He could have cowered, given in to the outside forces that tried to make him retreat, but he insisted, persevered and won.

Turning to the Queen, the Cardinal says:

Your Majesty, that on this day and every day of your life, Your Majesty may hear the voice of the people of Ireland, the same voice that St. Patrick heard that day, calling for help.

I wish and hope that your reign will follow the inspiration of the Patron Saint of your Kingdom and that, just as he did, Your Majesty will persevere to defend the true Faith, working together with Holy Mother Church to spread the word of truth in every corner of the Emerald Isle, without fear and without being intimidated by any external force or pressure, because Your Majesty will be confident that you have been elected by God and that he will give you the strength to go through any obstacle, as long as Your Majesty does not deviate from his will.

At the end of the sermon, Adonnis turned to those present and says:

Let's manifest our faith. I ask everyone to accompany me in praying the creed.

    Credo in Deum,
    Altissimum Omnipotentem,
    Creatorem caeli et terrae,
    Inferos et paradisi,
    Ultima hora animae judicem nostrae

    Et in Aristotelem, prophetam,
    Nicomaqui Phaetique filium,
    Missum ut sapientiam et universi
    Divas leges errantibus hominibus erudiret

    Credo etiam in Christum,
    Natum ex Maria et Ioseph,
Vitam dedit ut nobis paradisi viam monstraret
Sic, postquam sub Pontio passus est
    Propter salutem
    Nostram martyr perivit
    Consecutus est Solem
Ubi Aristoteles ad Altissimi dexteram eum expectabat

    Credo in Divinam Actionem,

The Cardinal Dean of the Sacred College took his place at the right of the papal throne. He wore a red silk cassock and a magna cape of the same colour and texture.

He turned a smile and a gesture of blessing to the Queen who had approached the Holy Father.
    Pax Vobiscum.

When the ceremony began, he joyfully participated in the celebration, so full of positive emotions and God's love.

Princes of the Church and the temporal world had gathered under the protective building of the Cathedral to commune together, reminding the world of their inseparability. The devout face of the Queen, blessed by the Cardinal Dean of the Sacred College, was slightly lowered, her ear more erect than ever to hear the sermon. A mixed feeling of peace and ardor animated the sovereign as thanksgiving was given to St. Patrick: a model for every Irishman who continued to celebrate him every year. Through his intense devotion and unwavering trust in the Divine truth, St. Patrick had illuminated Ireland with his own faith, which had spread through the hearts of the faithful to repudiate pagan infamy. What pride for a queen to pray under the auspices of this generous saint and to pay him a thousand homages in her chapels.

Guided by him but also by the other titular figures of Ireland, Alienor had the intimate conviction that nothing and nobody would divert her from her sacred duty. To every temptation of the Evil One, she would answer with prayer, to every doubt she would seek the support of the Saints and thus the throne of Ireland would be eternally upright to protect faith and men.

When the Cardinal spoke again to recite the creed, the Queen's voice echoed.

      « Credo in Deum,
      Altissimum Omnipotentem,
      Creatorem caeli et terrae,
      Inferos et paradisi,
      Ultima hora animae judicem nostrae

      Et in Aristotelem, prophetam,

      Sanctorum communionem,

      Vitam aeternam.

      Amen. »

Then she signed herself and kissed her hand.
