I thank Cardinal Cathelineau and Cardinal Francesco Maria for their wise and correct arguments, which I fully support.
We deprive ourselves of the decision within the election to discern whether or not a cardinal deacon has the ability to coordinate and do the job as dean.
Let the electorate decide that. If what Cardinal Felipe says were true, then almost automatically a cardinal-bishop would be the perfect appointment, but that is not the case.
The perfect line-up is determined by the election. The restrictions are problematic and ensure the reduction of the potential we have.
We also cannot constantly require cardinal priests and cardinal deacons to participate here and everywhere if we constantly discriminate against them everywhere.
The idea that you have to be a cardinal for at least 6 months in order to be allowed to run for office is something I can perhaps compromise on. _________________

Citation: | Article 1.4: The causal quadriptych:
The material cause = He must be Cardinal in title at the time of his appointment. There can only be one reigning Pope
The efficient cause= He is appointed by the College of Cardinals gathered in a Conclave.
The formal cause = He is enthroned by the Dean or Vice-Dean of the Sacred College.
The final cause = He is the supreme authority of the Church and presides over the Sacred College. |
In fact this debate is nonsense. If any cardinal can be elected pope even after 5 days of his accession to the cardinalate, I do not see how we can be more demanding for the Dean who only has a symbolic role... _________________

My eminent brother Cathelineau is right: this debate is nonsense. But not for the reason he is putting forward. _________________

We all wait for your enlightening arguments - otherwise it is just a statement, Cardinal Felipe. I am sure you can give us more. _________________

I am but a poor, inexperienced altar boy who is here because of being someone's ward. I will leave it to others more experienced than I to find that answer. - he shrugged his shoulders. _________________

I have expressed to you a logical reason: it is easier to become pope than cardinal dean, while the first office is much more important than the second. If a cardinal for a week can be elected Pope, this same cardinal must be able to be elected Dean by his peers.
It's simple and logical.I didn't hear a response. _________________

I hardly think it would be easier to elect a new Pope than the Cardinal Dean. In any case, I find one of the points raised in this issue interesting. Why do cardinal deacons vote for the dean but are not entitled to vote in traditional curial elections? _________________

Because all this dates from another era which no longer has any reason to exist anymore... Honestly, it is urgent to have the courage to reform the Curia to simplify and make it more fluid. All this made sense when we had 30/40 cardinals, now we are barely 10. _________________

I just can support each word of Cardinal Cathelineau. It is a matter of logic and it is just and needed and i can't see why it should produce troubles.
It is not the case that anything would be given away from us. The dean must still win a majority. I don't think that you can't get it out of the blue.
I would support an addition as well - the option to vote the Dean out of office by majority of the Curia.
Simple fact - the Dean works for the Curia and not the opposit. Means the curia needs to have full control of the issue concerning this office. _________________
