So : here it was. His first consistory as Camerlengo. The cardinal von Frayner had been elected for a bit less than a month, but had taken his functions only a few days ago ; and as he was slowly walking his way to Saint Titus, surrounded by a few guards, some gregorian brothers and his secretary, he thought, in silence, that there was much to do. A few cardinals must have wondered how this man, whose body was old and nothing but skin and bones could handle this. If he had been asked the question, Aymé would have probably answered with honesty that he was the first surprised to wake up, every morning, and that he considered it as a sign that his work on Earth was far from being done.

As he came into the sacristy, he made a sign to one of his assistants to go make the bells ring in all the Eternal City. The Sacred College of Cardinals was welcoming, in this very special day, a new member among its ranks. Meanwhile, his assistant helped him to dress, and once ready, the very old priest slowly took his place behind the altar. The door were opened, the censers were smoking, already a low hymn was resonating against the sacred walls : quivering of excitement, the Camerlengo was waiting for the cardinals and for the one to come.

~~~
So: Hier war es. Sein erstes Konsistorium als Camerlengo. Der Kardinal von Frayner war seit ein bisschen weniger als einem Monat gewählt worden, aber hatte seine Funktionen vor nur ein paar Tagen genommen; und weil er seinen Weg heiligem Titus langsam ging, der von einigen Wächtern, einigen Gregorianischen Brüdern und seinem Sekretär umgeben ist, hat er im Schweigen gedacht, dass es viel gab, um zu tun. Einige Kardinäle müssen sich gefragt haben, wie dieser Mann, dessen Körper alt war und nichts als Haut und Knochen, das behandeln konnte. Wenn er an der Frage gestellt worden wäre, hätte Aymé wahrscheinlich mit der Gerechtigkeit geantwortet, dass er das erste war, das überrascht ist, jeden Morgen aufzuwachen, und dass er es als ein Zeichen betrachtet hat, dass seine Arbeit an der Erde davon weit war, getan zu werden.
Als er in die Sakristei eingetreten ist, hat er ein Zeichen einem seiner Helfer gemacht, um zu gehen, lassen die Glocken in der ganzen Ewigen Stadt klingeln. Die Heilige Universität von Kardinälen, begrüßte an diesem ganz besonderen Tag, ein neues Mitglied unter seinen Reihen. Inzwischen hat sein Helfer ihm geholfen, sich, und einmal bereit anzuziehen, der sehr alte Priester hat langsam seinen Platz hinter dem Altar genommen. Die Tür wurde geöffnet, die Weihrauchfässer rauchten bereits ein niedriges Kirchenlied schwang gegen die heiligen Wände mit: Von der Aufregung zitternd, wartete Camerlengo auf die Kardinäle und auf denjenigen, um zu kommen.
It slowly becomes regular for me to join ceremonies in this amazing spot. But not really. It's still so impressive. And indeed it's a happening having Kalixtus here today as a new cardinal. If I or others would have imagined that years before.. but times changed. And he proved his true loyalitiy in the dark times in Styria. So I go to the first rows and greet Ayme respectfully. Then I take my seat and wait for my colleagues to join and the ceremony to start.
The deep sound of the bells are such amazing. This day was really not usual for Kalixtus. The letter from his Eminence Von Frayner was so unreal, so far away but reality.
God was the light which was brighter than all darkness, all shadows around the strong and outstanding Church - his faithful servant he was. And yes Kalixtus knows the darkness, the creature without names his influence, his slyness. He saw the abyss, the styrian mob with stones and torches. He saw his church burning from their actions and he heard the laugh of the creature just in this moment.
But he was not moving. He was strong and unswerving. God was the ruler and he answers - he sends his archangel to protect the faithful against the darkness. The truth will always win against the evil.
Kalixtus closed his eyes for just one second. It was time to follow the path as one of Gods Lights of Protection. It was his journey to protect the faithful, the knowledge and truth of our holy Church - more than this - of our religion.
He was carrying the robe of the Jesuits: black as always with the cincture of his estate as archbishop of Mainz. His nearly white hair was interwoven into an long French braid till his waist.
It was time to enter the cathedral of St. Titus. He takes a long breath and there he was - a little bit lonely but with no fear and a gentle smile on his lips. The central aisle was straight to the altar. So this cathedral was huge and beautiful. Actually he can feel the present of God himself in this place of true faith. As always he enters St. Titus - he feels goosebumps across his neck.
Kalixtus cross oneself and his melodic voice said: "E nomine Deus et Christos et Aristoteles. Amen!"
Despite his progressive blindness, due to his age, the very old cardinal was able to see and recognize some of the cardinals, and mainly His Excellency Kalixtus. He still waited a moment, as around him a crowd of beadles and choirboys were taking position, and then, with a loud and deep voice, he said :
Brothers, Sisters, may you be welcomed for this second Public Consistory of the Year. In this very particular day, and according to the decision made by the Sacred College, Kalixtus shall be elevated to the cardinal dignity, for the Greatness of the Church. Let us thank the Almighty for what He gives us today : let us pray together.
~~~

Lassen Sie uns uns beim Allmächtigen dafür bedanken, was Er uns heute gibt: Lassen Sie uns zusammen beten.

    Credo in Deum,
    Altissimum Omnipotentem,
    Creatorem caeli et terrae,
    Inferos et paradisi,
    Ultima hora animae judicem nostrae

    Et in Aristotelem, prophetam,
    Nicomaqui Phaetique filium,
    Missum ut sapientiam et universi
    Divas leges errantibus hominibus erudiret

    Credo etiam in Christum,
    Natum ex Maria et Ioseph,
    Vitam dedit ut nobis paradisi viam monstraret
    Sic, postquam sub Pontio passus est
    Propter salutem
    Nostram martyr perivit
    Consecutus est Solem
    Ubi Aristoteles ad Altissimi dexteram eum expectabat

    Credo in Divinam Actionem,
    Sanctam Ecclesiam aristotelicianam, romanam, unam et indivisibilem
    Sanctorum communionem,
    Peccatorum remissionem,
    Carnis resurrectionem
    Vitam aeternam.

    AMEN

So here we are. Isnt there a song that says,

you must cross seven bridges,
you must walk through seven years of darkness
7 times you must be the ashes
but once you be the shining light.

Somehow I feel remembered to that song and several Things I remember from Styria. The false hearts, the political games they played. They tried to convert us, but they failed. Then they tried to attack us, but we stood against it. Then they tried to denunciate with wildest ideas. Like being witchers and masters of dark Magic. Ironically they did dark Magic themselves. And it was them attacking with torches and Stones the churches. So typical for them. But anyway. Indeed, the last phase was the hardest as some wanted to believe such lies as it fitted better to their world of hate that needed enemies and that didnt want to see as as we are. Virtuos. So in the end, the Duke played the political Card to get us somehow out. But what did he win? He isolated his land once more what normal People fear to travel to. At least those that dont close their eyes of their games pretending ist such a friendly community there. What happened to us? Kalixtus and me took care of dioceses in the german kingdom. With success. We were beaten hard in Styria. But faith made us stand. Strength gave us so many friends in the kingdom. And give the Stamina and Faith to continue the work of our church. And it gave proof to us that we did well to work with each other. And trust each other. Truly trust each other. Knowing we stand on the right side.

This having in mind, I answer to Kalixtus. One word, just saying so much in that one Moment:

Amen, my brother and friend.

So he will go his way to Rome now. Into the Curia a challenging place. But the ones who survived situations like Styria will make it here. I am sure. He just never needs to Forget what brings us real strength: friendship and cooperation. Working together for the light. And stand together against darkness.

It was the latin credo he loved so much more then in other languages. It was a childhood memory: Kalis mother Vivienne, a strong aristotelian woman, praying this every morning and evening with him and his sister. Not in French - his motherlanguage - in latin.
The language of Rome.
There was a small smile on Kalixtus face as he remembers and his voice chime in in the Credo:

    Credo in Deum,
    Altissimum Omnipotentem,
    Creatorem caeli et terrae,
    Inferos et paradisi,
    Ultima hora animae judicem nostrae

    Et in Aristotelem, prophetam,
    Nicomaqui Phaetique filium,
    Missum ut sapientiam et universi
    Divas leges errantibus hominibus erudiret

    Credo etiam in Christum,
    Natum ex Maria et Ioseph,
    Vitam dedit ut nobis paradisi viam monstraret
    Sic, postquam sub Pontio passus est
    Propter salutem
    Nostram martyr perivit
    Consecutus est Solem
    Ubi Aristoteles ad Altissimi dexteram eum expectabat

    Credo in Divinam Actionem,
    Sanctam Ecclesiam aristotelicianam, romanam, unam et indivisibilem
    Sanctorum communionem,
    Peccatorum remissionem,
    Carnis resurrectionem
    Vitam aeternam.

    Amen

His eyes focused Rodrigo, his friend and strong ally in Germany and more than this in Rome and Empire. Friendship was the biggest path of Christos and it have proved as a recipe for freedom and peace. The prophet knew that and Kalixtus himself tallied on this path.

Friendship treat us as equals.

Kali wants make more friends so he can build a network of friendship and peace for a stronger and unified Church.

I nod to Kalixtus, then turn to the Camerlengo. Now it's the Credo we have to speak. So i do, fully agreeing with it contents from deep of my heart:

Credo in Deum,
Altissimum Omnipotentem,
Creatorem caeli et terrae,
Inferos et paradisi,
Ultima hora animae judicem nostrae

Et in Aristotelem, prophetam,
Nicomaqui Phaetique filium,
Missum ut sapientiam et universi
Divas leges errantibus hominibus erudiret

Credo etiam in Christum,
Natum ex Maria et Ioseph,
Vitam dedit ut nobis paradisi viam monstraret
Sic, postquam sub Pontio passus est
Propter salutem
Nostram martyr perivit
Consecutus est Solem
Ubi Aristoteles ad Altissimi dexteram eum expectabat

Credo in Divinam Actionem,
Sanctam Ecclesiam aristotelicianam, romanam, unam et indivisibilem
Sanctorum communionem,
Peccatorum remissionem,
Carnis resurrectionem
Vitam aeternam.

AMEN

A short silence went right after the common prayer of the people attending the office. Then, after a few seconds, the old cardinal said, looking to Kalixtus :

Brother Kalixtus, I want to briefly remind you of the role that will be yours after this day. Then, quoting the Canon Law, he said :

The Cardinals act as college and must validate, even 'a posteriori', their decisions by the College of Cardinals.
The Cardinals can celebrate all the sacraments of the Aristotelian Church.
The Cardinals only, are entitled to pronounce an excommunication.
The Cardinals alone, are able to validate a separation or an annulment of marriage.
The Cardinals, alone are with being able to validate defrocking of a Priest or Monk, volunteer or not.
The Cardinals have the right of veto on any decision taken by a member of the Clergy, the Pope excepted.
The title of Cardinal does not prohibit any office plurality with another duty in the Secular or Regular Clergy.

After another silence, to allow the cardinal to understand well what his duty and responsibilities would be, from now on, the camerlengo spoke again, with a loud and clear voice :

Brother Kalixtus, please step forward.

Trying not to disturb the ongoing ceremony, Cardinal Fenice reached her seat and looked with a smile at the new cardinal.

Kalixtus listen carefully to the Camerlengo and he step forward to the point the cardinal indicates him.

His hands are folded and the archbishop thought about the words: To be a cardinal was always a key of power but for him it was a key for a special door of responsibility. To stand for something is always a choice of methods. Power is not the thing who makes someone beeing a part of darkness or light, good or evil - it seems the methods are the first thing who will sort you out or in.

So it is the responsibility who makes the differences - maybe that would be the hardest part of beeing cardinal. Kalixtus hopes that he can find friends here in Rome. Friends who can teach him to choose the right methods and the right way of responsibility for a unique Church in the name of God himself.

And this time, she was late, the ceremony has begun.
Eloin went back up the nave as silent as possible, and sat down in side of the French-speaking cardinals. And prayed while Uter unthroned the new cardinal.
