Their journey had been arduous, but still the English Royal Chancellor and her husband arrived in Rome in high spirits. Long had it been since the last time she’d given her homeland any consideration as those memories were painful, yet there was a spark of hope that perhaps the land was healing and would some day forget the scars of the Celtic Alliance. After a few restless days exploring the Holy City, they arrived at the Basilica and promptly lost themselves, emerging just prior to the ceremony’s commencement. Her gown arranged to perfection, they mingled for a time before taking their seats.

Lance modded with permission.

Monsignor William saw that the English delegation had arrived at the ceremony. He got up and went to them.
Greetings Chancellor and welcome to the Eternal City. I hope that the journey was great. Feel free to ask if ever you need help here as it can get very complicated.

I t was at this time of the year, near the end of the summer, on 13th September was chosen as the date for the coronation of the sovereign of Ireland. Although the King loved his people, it was on the tomb of St. Titus that he decided to be crowned. Firstly, because of his devotion, faith was an integral part of his character and the deepest values that he defended in everyday life. On the other hand, he nourished the hope that his people could do the same in the future. Faith had long since disappeared in the beautiful Emerald Isle, and as a result, it was becoming a mission land where the Church could freely carry out its sacred duty to spread the Faith.

Ireland needed to be built, and the splendour carved into the marble just like Rome was. And perhaps this building of the country would be done with the help of missionaries? Only time will tell. For the time being it was a day of rejoicing for the royal family, who had prepared themselves for the occasion in the Palazzetto dei Lancastre. The horses made their way to the Basilica of St. Titus with great pomp regards of the circumstance, and in a few moments the royal procession could pass through the doors of the Basilica.

It was the second coronation in two days: two kings, coming from countries far ways from each other, and yet united in receiving the blessing from the Most High by the hands of His ministers. Cardinal Gianvitus was ready.

The cardinal, having heard about the coronation, prepared to reach the cathedral, entered without making noise and sat down. The ceremony had just begun.

One more coronation for the House of Our Father, he did not have in his memory that in just one day ceremonies of great importance for our Church could be carried out.
An Aristotelian king from the lands of Ireland, would also be crowned in the great basilica and with great virtue decided to accompany them

As the introitus was sung, the procession of clerics moved towards the Altar, opened by the cross-bringer, whose steps broke the incense clouds rising to the sky, in God's honour. After him and the bright light candles, three young acolytes were holding the three symbols of kingly power, that will be given to the elected king: sword, sceptre and crown. Then a deacon was holding the Holy Oil and another one the Book of Virtues. Last came the two celebrants, wearing the green cope, and the episcopal gloves, and the white mitre.

Arrived at the Altare, they both bowed and then, turned in front of the people, Cardinal Gianvitus said:
«In Nómine Altíssimi, et Aristótelis, et Christi»
In the Name of the Allmighty, Aristotle and Christs

Then he nodded to the king that he came in front of the other Cardinal and kneed on a very decorated pillow at his feet.

At that very moment, Cardinal Fenice, Chancellor of the Congregation for External Affairs, entered with silent and light steps and took her place to attend the important ceremony.
She smiled, making a few gestures of greeting to those she knew. She was just in time... She sat down and concentrated in prayer.

The English Chancellor spotted the approach of her colleague, William Blazing, and stood to greet him with a smile. ”The journey was long, yes, but we enjoyed it. Rome now is another story altogether, aye.” Her eyes roamed the grand hall of the Basilica. These gods were not her own, but she could feel the weight of their reverence.

After taking particular care with the clothing of the sovereigns of Ireland, the servants retired, leaving the royal couple in the privacy of their flat in the Palazetto dei Lancastre.

    - You are magnificent my love.

Adelheid admired her husband in his garb in the colours of Ireland. Her heavy azure coat decorated with the harps of Ireland and ermine fur on her shoulders, she simply found him ... Royally magnificent.

It was a great day ahead. Everyone who knew the couple knew how much the Roman Aristotelian religion was at the heart of their lives, of their decisions.

Once they had stepped out of the coach, the royal couple walked up the nave of the Basilica, Adel's left hand resting on Carl's right forearm during the journey. Each had their shoulders covered with their royal mantle. The couple's four children followed them and took their places in the place reserved for the family. As they walked along, the Queen consort contemplated the magnificent architecture of the Basilica. It was grandiose.

At the end of the nave, they both knelt on the cushions placed at their disposal. Adel would not be crowned, only her husband. However, she would have the immense honour of obtaining the blessing from the hands of Cardinal della Scala. Her heart as a faithful believer was filled with joy and gratitude.

The trip to Rome was long but the De Kerallen de Creac'h Guerane family wanted to be present for this unique ceremony in Irish history, not only because we were friends of the royal couple, but also because we had all embarked together on this Irish adventure and we had all expatriated to live in this beautiful green island that is Ireland. I am Countess du Cuïge Chonnacht and I played the role of Lady High Chancelor of the Kingdom of Ireland. As for Flammenig, he was Admiral of Connacht and County Constable.
The coronation in Rome resulted from the will of King Carloman, renowned for his great piety.
We therefore left for a few weeks the county of Cuige Chonnacht, managed by safe and serious men and women to be able to attend this historic ceremony. The whole mesnie was present, Flammenig, my dear and tender husband, my two children Kaëllig and his little sister Mallory, both closely watched by their faithful Breton governess Fanchon.
I admired the basilica whose architecture was impressive.

The ceremony was about to begin.

Cardinal Della Scala, High Apostolic Commissioner for Ireland, reached the high altar. He squinted his eyes and breathed in the air thick with incense. He looked at His Majesty and smiled at him and then, in a loud voice, said:

Amen.

Since today, excellent prince, you are about to receive from our hands the sacred anointing and the insignia of the Kingdom, it is good that we first admonish you of the burden to which you are destined.
First of all, keep mercy, and venerate the Lord our God with all your heart; keep the Aristotelian faith and religion, which you profess from the cradle, inviolate until your last day, and defend them from all adversity. Do not violate the freedom of the Church. Wisely administer justice, without which no society can exist, by administering rewards to the good and just penances to the bad. Defend widows, orphans and the weak from all oppression. And finally, remember that you reign not for your own benefit, but for that of this Kingdom, and seek your benefactors not on earth, but in heaven. There where God lives and reigns, for ever and ever. Amen

Elisabeth was there, going up the nave, with her sisters Alienor and Blanca, and her brother Eudes. The Lancastre couple is honoured on this beautiful day of September 13th, in fact it is especially her father Carloman de Lancastre, King of Ireland, who is being honoured. For on this day he is crowned by Rome.

She hoped to have both of them by her side for as long as possible, to grow up and continue to learn from them. They were an inexhaustible source of knowledge for the girl who was eager to learn from them, they knew so much. And from the earliest age of their progeny, they had always shared their knowledge with their children, all of them without exception. Instilling in them respect for the church and for others, loyalty, love of one's neighbour, truth.
Yes, the young Princess was more than proud of her parents and even more so today of her father. He was a good man with deep-rooted Aristotelian values, the wonderful father that he is.

She took her place on the family bench while smoothing the edges of her pretty dress, not without keeping an eye on the crown, sceptre and sword of Ireland, symbols of the Royalty. As Lady EARL of the Grand College of Arms of Ireland, she had handed over the precious regalias of the Kingdom of Ireland to those in charge. She was its guardian until the coronation.

Her eyes are on her parents, both kneeling before the Cardinal representing the Pope. Her father will be crowned, her mother will receive the blessing. What an idea not to make a single coronation of the royal couple. What use is a Roman marriage if it is not recognised for a coronation.

They are so beautiful...

Alienore wasn't used to travel so far but it was an special occasion. A coronation of a great King happens once in a life time and it was the accession of Her father the Irish King.

Her dress was elegant but simple ; she can be easily mistaken for a lady-in-waiting rather then a royal. She was baptized and therefore she was a children of the church and she admired the zealousness of her parents towards the church.

She smiled to the altar from afar, standing with the noble lords and ladies, she didn't even know half of their name. She was not in charge of anything , so it was easy for her to be unnoticeable.
