As you all know, today the liturgical year ends and tomorrow, on the first Sunday of Advent, the new liturgical year, the year 69/70, begins. In front of you now is the selection of liturgical calendars written in the major languages of continental Europe.

The liturgical calendar is an instrument which makes it easier for the parish clergy to orientate themselves through the many periods of the year and the feasts as well as the commemorative days of our Church and its saints. But it is also increasingly an instrument which the secular powers use to determine their holidays or to organise festivals.

Spread this calendar in your dioceses and among the faithful. It is, as it were, a benefit, a teaching and an orientation.

I thank the translators Cardinal Adonnis and Cardinal Roderic for their help with the translations for the Iberian Peninsula.
