Appointment of the Prefect of the Index
We, Felipe Álvarez de Toledo Josselinère, Cardinal-Bishop of Santa Maria Rotunda, as Vice-Chancellor of the Apostolic Chancellery and Grand Auditor of the Holy See,
Have ruled and ordained, and by our present perpetual and definitive edict, we rule and order the appointment of Mgr. David de St Bertrand [ David064 ], Archbishop of Auch, as Prefect of the Index.
The Prefect has a duty of monitoring the archiving and indexing as well as updating the registry of the Index. He must also ensure that the work is properly coordinated between archivist and the authorities issuing the measures. The Prefect certifies, upon request, whether or not there is a name in the Index. - Canon Law, Book V, 5.6, Part IV -
This appointment has been prompted by the retirement of our former Prefect, our Sister Jenah, who has worked so long and hard in the Index Office, first as archivist and later as Prefect. Both the Archchancellor, His Eminence Arnarion, and myself, wish to thank her for her professional devotion and loyalty over the years, believing that her retirement is more than well deserved.
