During the entire ordination, the female bishop had stood at arm's length next to the cardinal and observed the consecration. She had not yet been allowed to perform one herself. But she still remembered her own very well. It had also been taken over by Cardinal Kalixtus. It was admirable how he performed the sacraments. Branwyn was way behind him in this respect and would probably never be able to reach him. Smiling, she followed the proceedings, took a piece of bread and listened to the words of blessing.
Another priest in the service of the Aristotelian Church. A good feeling. After the blessing was spoken and the ordination was complete, the document had to be signed. Branwyn let Kalixtus and Aerwan go first. Only then did she dip the quill, seal and sign with her name.

Requiem Bishop Blancastre
It was time for this duty and last honour to a friend, disciple and colleague who was called away by God and whose soul will face the judgement of the Last Judgement.
The sarcophagus for the bishop was laid out on a carpet in front of the apse. Naturally, the body had been embalmed and prepared for the funeral service so that it could be taken to its final resting place in Savoy after the requiem.
The cardinal lit the incense on the altar and a candle, which he placed in front of the sarcophagus, his fingers gliding gently over the precious stone. Calixtus regretted the early death of the man who had such great visions and breathtaking energy. But life is like a candle, if it burns bright and hot, it quickly melts away. God only gives a man the time he has, not a day, not even an hour more.
With a depressed expression on his face, he went to the sacristy to be dressed in the liturgical vestments for the requiem.

_________________

Even though Joseph had known his colleague from the Pontifical University only by sight, there was no reason not to pay his last respects. And so he also went to his brother's requiem in faith.
Quiet and somewhat introverted, he entered the church and chose a row of pews. Before entering, he bowed his head and said a silent prayer. After crossing himself, he took a seat in the pew. _________________

As the service began, the Cardinal stepped forward and stood beside the sarcophagus of Bishop Blancastre. Raising his voice, which carried powerful resonance and a deep timbre, he addressed the congregation with the following words:
Beloved brothers and sisters in the Lord,
With deepest sorrow and a heart heavy with grief, I welcome you today to this sacred house, filled with the silent echo of our tears. We have gathered here to bid farewell to a man whose life was a beacon of faith and devotion: Bishop Blancastre, our shepherd, our brother.
How profound is the loss of a man who dedicated his life to the service of the Church and her faithful! His heart beat with the rhythm of divine mercy, and his hands were always ready to heal, bless, and give. He was a rock for the weak, a light for the doubtful, and a friend to the lonely.
And yet, the voice that encouraged us is now silent. The hands that guided us are now at rest. Our hearts bleed, and yet, my beloved, we know that his life was a testament to the eternal Gospel. His passage into eternity is not an end, but the beginning of a new ministry—before the face of God, where he will intercede for us all.
Bishop Blancastre was a man who did not shy away from the weight of the Cross. He carried it with humility and unwavering faith. He lived in the profound conviction that the Church does not exist for itself, but as the living body, serving humanity, uplifting souls, and sheltering them in the arms of the Almighty.
Today, our sorrow is immense, and the Church feels poorer for the loss of a precious cornerstone of her foundation. Yet, we must not forget that the legacy of Bishop Blancastre does not fade. It lives on in our hearts, in our prayers, and in our actions. Each of us carries a piece of his legacy—a mission we are called to continue.
In this dark hour, I call upon you all to find comfort in the Lord. May our pain be transformed into a testimony of hope. May our grief awaken in us the love that Bishop Blancastre so generously bestowed throughout his life.
Let us now begin this holy Requiem in humility and reverence, entrusting our beloved bishop to the arms of the One to whom he dedicated his life. May the Lord be merciful to his soul and grant him the crown of life promised to those who have faithfully served Him.
Requiescat in pace, our dear father and friend. May he enter the eternal peace he so tirelessly proclaimed to us in this world.
Amen.
Let us pray together:
Lord our God,
in deep mourning, we place Bishop Blancastre into Your merciful hands.
We thank You for his life,
for his faithful service to Your Church and Your people.
Forgive his sins,
grant him peace and the crown of eternal life.
Comfort us in our grief,
and give us the strength to carry his legacy forward in love.
Receive him into Your Kingdom,
where he may behold Your face,
and let us live in the hope
of being reunited with him in Your presence one day.
Through God Almighty.
Amen. _________________

-----Blancastre was dead. The news had struck Laodin, who did not expect to learn such a tragic fate for his ancient student in his entire life. Blancastre, so serious and devoted to his work, had seemed so vivid nothing should have stopped him so abruptly. Laodin knew about his departure from some services of the Church, but he thought his physical condition to be excellent, and he assumed it was just a break before a return to form. How was he wrong then! He felt guilty and miserable to not have contacted him from this moment, to not even have suspected any of what really happened. They had lost sight of each other for more than a year, and it was now too late to give him his support.
-----However, there was one last occasion for Laodin to prove Blancastre he did care about him, and that would be for his funerals, in the basilica San Giovanni dei Martiri. It was said Kalixtus would officiate the ceremony, which was no surprise: the cardinal had collaborated with him for quite a long time, being his direct superior in the Congregation for the Diffusion of the Faith. Both of them had worked together almost hand to hand, with benefits for the entire Church. There was no better man to do it in such a splendid edifice, and he had no doubt the ceremony would be as beautiful and intimate as it should be.
-----This was confirmed when the cardinal spoke to the audience, looking sad and concerned. Behind him rested the sarcophagus, as solid as Blancastre had seemed to Laodin; now he would be with his father, the great Angelo de Montemayor, eternally happy in the Sun Paradize. Would their tombs happen to be in the same graveyard? Laodin hoped it, despite it was none of his concern. Paying tribute to the man he remembered, here was the only thing to consider, and he was in the right place to do it. So he recited, bleak:
------ Lord our God, in deep mourning, we place Bishop Blancastre into Your merciful hands. We thank You for his life, for his faithful service to Your Church and Your people. Forgive his sins, grant him peace and the crown of eternal life. Comfort us in our grief, and give us the strength to carry his legacy forward in love. A young acolyte brought the Book of Virtues and opened it to the page he had prepared for the reading, his warm, dark voice speaking unctuously:
We hear from the Book of Virtues:
| Citation: |
Book of the end of time
Chapter I - « The Dream »
1 I, Ysupso of Alexandria, Egypt, will describe to you the revelation that was made to me in a dream. It might appear strange to regard a dream as a veritable premonition, but the reading of my revelations will show you that this was no ordinary dream. I thank the Most High for having entrusted to me the divine mission of transmitting His will to the world.
2 My dream started with a soft white light. I had the urge to awake myself and, as in the early morning, I emerged gradually from my state of lethargy. The light brought, progressively with my imaginary alarm clock, its batch of nuances. I then saw a group of beings, human with the large wings of birds, surmounted by a luminous ring. They sparkled with love and gentleness. Their glances were full of kindness and tenderness.
3 I saw there with me all the human ones that, by their holy virtuous life, had reached the statute of angels. Seven of them exceeded their companions by the feeling of goodness that they emanated. I recognized without difficulty seven blessed archangels of God: George, owner of the friendship, Uriel, owner of generosity, Raphael, owner of conviction, Gabriel, owner of temperance, Michael, owner of justice, Selaphiel, owner of the pleasure, and Galadrielle, owner of conservation.
4 Behind them, I saw vast idyllic landscapes. Everything sparkled with great beauty and I wanted nothing more than to remain there for eternity. But it seemed quite empty. I could admire the innumerable elect, populating Paradise. On their faces was an expression of great bliss. Seeing such a happiness fill those that had lived in the virtue, I was delighted for them and hoped to be able to join them.
5 Then, I heard a hard yet serene voice to say to me: “Those which you see here are those which knew to gain the Paradise, according to the word which I entrusted to Aristotle and Christos. But know that the future will not be so radiant for all.” I understood that it was God Himself that addressed this divine message to me. Then, the angels left me in communion with the Most High. “Look into the pool of water at your feet,” He said to me.
6 I saw a beautiful country there. The soft heat of the sun cherished the trees of the orchards, nourished the ears of corn, which were drawn up, proud, toward the sky, and gave all its love to the vegetables, which thrived. Further, I could see the cows feeding placidly, accompanied by sheep kept safe by their shepherd. The pleasant breeze lent its force to the work of the miller while making the wings of the mill to turn.
7 The sea provided the fishermen with many fish, in order to nourish them and exhaled its rustic but so pleasant scents to those that could appreciate them. In the middle of this peaceful life, a city, girded about with walls, swarmed with activity. The craftsmen worked in order to provide to the population all that it needed and the tradesmen spoke in praise of their goods to the customers coming to market.
8 The children played, laughing and running along the animated streets. Taverns shook with the laughter and the noises of liquids that were poured into the tankards. A small group crowded around the mayor, who listened to their interrogations and answered. The bells were reflected to sound and great numbers of the inhabitants left their houses to go to the mass.

Now it was time for the sermon, and he looked with great sadness at the people as he took the floor and tried to find the right words to describe Bishop Blancastre's short but full life.
Dear brothers and sisters,
Today, we gather to remember Bishop Blancastre, a faithful servant of the Most High, who dedicated his time on earth tirelessly to the work of God. His passing is a loss for all of us—a wound in our hearts, a shadow over our community. Yet, in this moment of mourning, we call to mind the promise revealed in the dream of Ysupso of Alexandria: the radiant hope of paradise that God has prepared for His chosen ones.
Ysupso spoke of a white light that roused him from lethargy and revealed to him the glory of heaven. Just as he described the love and gentleness of the angels, so did this love shine through Bishop Blancastre. He was a man of great heart, filled with gentleness, a shepherd who tirelessly guided his flock. He embodied the virtues protected by the archangels: justice, self-sacrifice, and bliss.
Today, we trust that he, too, now resides in that heavenly fellowship Ysupso described. Yet, this is not merely a comforting notion—it is a reminder of God’s promise, the goal of our lives that lies beyond pain and death.
Ysupso gazed into the pool of water and saw a land of abundance and peace. This land was not only an image of paradise but also a vision of what God intended for the earth: a life of harmony, of community, a life permeated by His love.
Bishop Blancastre devoted his life to making this vision a reality on earth. He worked tirelessly for the poor, taught the truth of the faith, and comforted the sorrowful. In his life, we glimpsed a small foretaste of that land awaiting us in heaven.
Yet, the voice of God that Ysupso heard in his dream also offered a warning: “The future will not be so bright for all.” These words call us to examine our lives. Bishop Blancastre always reminded us that the path to paradise lies in virtue, in obedience to the commandments, and in love for God and neighbor.
His passing is a call to reflection: How do we walk this path? Do we follow the commandments as they were given by Aristotle and Christos? Do we strive to live a life pleasing to God?
Dear mourners, the loss of a beloved person is hard to bear. Yet we can trust that Bishop Blancastre now resides in that land of abundance Ysupso beheld. The warmth of God surrounds him, and he lives in the fellowship of angels and saints.
Let us draw hope from his life. Let us recognize that his works were not in vain. For the love he sowed lives on in us. His dedication inspires us to persevere in faith and to move forward with courage.
So let us bid farewell, certain that death is not the end. With the words of Scripture, we pray:
Lord, grant him eternal rest, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
Let us say the Creed together, as Holy Mother Church teaches us:
I believe in God, the Most High Almighty,
Creator of the Sky and the Earth,
Hell and Paradise,
Judge of our heart until the hour of death.
And in Aristotle, the prophet,
The son of Nicomachus and Phaestis,
Sent to teach wisdom
And the divine laws of the Universe to straying men.
I also believe in Christos,
Son of Maria and Joseph.
Who dedicated His life to show us the way to Paradise.
Thus after He suffered under Ponce the Procurator,
He died as a martyr to save us.
He joined the Sun where Aristotle waited on the right-hand side of the Father.
I believe in Divine Action;
In the Holy Roman Aristotelian Church;
In the communion of Saints;
In the remission of sins;
In Eternal Life.
AMEN
After this the music of In paradisum - Chorus angelorum was sung by the choir.

Naturally, the bishop had also arrived. Branwyn had taken a seat in the clergy's pews before the mass had begun and listened quietly but attentively to the cardinal's words. Unfortunately, she had not been able to get to know Blancastre better. They had had brief contact once, but that was it.
Calixtus had found warm and respectful words for the man, honouring his life and work.
Branwyn thoughtfully recited the creed.
