As the introitus was sung, the procession of clerics moved towards the Altar, opened by the cross-bringer, whose steps broke the incense clouds rising to the sky, in God's honour. After him and the bright light candles, three young acolytes were holding the three symbols of kingly power, that will be given to the elected king: sword, sceptre and crown. Then a deacon was holding the Holy Oil and another one the Book of Virtues. Last came the two celebrants, wearing the green cope, and the episcopal gloves, and the white mitre.

Arrived at the Altare, they both bowed and then, turned in front of the people, Cardinal Gianvitus said:
«In Nómine Altíssimi, et Aristótelis, et Christi»
In the Name of the Allmighty, Aristotle and Christs

Then he nodded to the king that he came in front of the other Cardinal and kneed on a very decorated pillow at his feet.

When the procession of clergymen left the sacristy to hear the hymn begin, Felipe smiled at the thought of the excellent work of Mother Ariana, with whom he had been speaking the day before about the preparations for the coronation: no doubt the choice of the music was, as always, excellent on the part of that virtuous woman. When they entered the basilica, he discreetly raised his gaze to the great dome, a colossal construction, and then he looked at the beautiful frescoes in the vaults: being there was like heaven on earth. Moments later the procession slowly reached the altar and the clerics bowed before the most sacred area of the Basilica of San Titus. The new king of Aragon, whom his sister served, had already arrived and was waiting for the ceremony to begin. Felipe went to his place and crossed himself when he heard the words of Cardinal Gianvitus. - Amen - Where would Ines be? there were so many people in the vastness of the temple that he could not find her.

/////////////

Kalixtus smiled at Arduino and they went into the procession together and followed the evocative atmosphere of the huge basilica into this dreamlike coronation mass.

Arriving at the squares of the high clergy, Kalixtus followed the words and ceremony of Gianvitus. They were relatives in spirit. Their congregations were brothers and sisters and he was happy to hear a Latin mass. The coronation ceremony was a completely new liturgy and he knew how beautiful and worthy it would be. So he responded joyfully Amen and made the sign of the cross.

Cardinal Della Scala, High Apostolic Commissioner for the Iberian Peninsula, reached the high altar. He squinted his eyes and breathed in the air thick with incense. He looked at His Majesty and smiled at him and then, in a loud voice, said:

Since today, excellent prince, you are about to receive from our hands the sacred anointing and the insignia of the Kingdom, it is good that we first admonish you of the burden to which you are destined.
First of all, keep mercy, and venerate the Lord our God with all your heart; keep the Aristotelian faith and religion, which you profess from the cradle, inviolate until your last day, and defend them from all adversity. Do not violate the freedom of the Church. Wisely administer justice, without which no society can exist, by administering rewards to the good and just penances to the bad. Defend widows, orphans and the weak from all oppression. And finally, remember that you reign not for your own benefit, but for that of this Kingdom, and seek your benefactors not on earth, but in heaven. There where God lives and reigns, for ever and ever. Amen

The King lays his right hand on the Book of Virtues.

I, Franzisco II, King of the Crown of Aragon and its peoples, swear to govern the Crown in the respect of our customs and for the good of our peoples and not for my personal interest.

I solemnly swear to protect the Church and her property.

I also swear to bring peace to the Holy Church and to the aristotelian peoples, and to fight the heretics.

I pledge to preserve the social order willed by God and to render justice for the good of all.

I swear to defend the weakest and foster brotherhood and mutual aid in my lands.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam !

Then he remained silent to let the ceremony continue.

The Cardinal approached the sovereign of Aragon and whispered to him politely:

Majesty, for the ceremony to proceed you should also swear according to our ceremonial.

    Sic me Deus adjuvet.

I, Francis II, with the help of God the King of the Crown of Aragon, promise before the Most High God and His Angels, to observe what you have said and to bring, as far as in my power, justice and peace for the Church of God and the people subject to me.

Cardinal Gianvitus came closer to the king and the other celebrant and extended his arms and raised his eyes saying:
«Oremus.

    Let us prey
Almighty and Eternal God, Creator of all things, Emperor of Angels, King of kings, and Lord of powers, look kindly upon Your servant Franzisco who with devotion has been elected to kingship, and give him many your blessings, surround him always and in every place with the power of Your right; well, confirmed in the faith, persuaded by meekness, exalted by humility, decorated by wisdom, please you in everything, and through justice you walk in a holy path; and armed with the armour of Your protection, and protected by an insurmountable shield, by the celestial armies, may he obtain victory against the enemies of the true faith, instil in them the terror of his power and obtain peace for those who fight for You, who live and reign forever and ever.
    Oremos

A cleric brought the ampulla with the sacred chrism. Cardinal Della Scala distinctly perceived the tension in the air for such a sacred act. He approached the King and dipped two fingers in the holy oil. He touched him three times: on his left humerus, on his chest and finally on his forehead drawing the Aristotelian cross.

Omnipotens Sempiterne Deus, tribue, quaesumus, manibus nostris opem Tuae benedictionis, et huic famulo Tuo Franziscus quem hodie licet indigni, in Regem sacra unctione delinimus, dignam delibutionis hujus efficaciam et virtutem concede: constitue, Domine, principatum super humerum ejus, ut sit fortis, justus, fidelis, providus, et indefessus regni hujus, et populi Tui gubernator, infidelium expugnator, justitiae cultor, meritorum et demeritorum remunerator, Ecclesiae Tuae sanctae, et fidei aristotelicae defensor, ad decus, et laudem Tui Nominis gloriosi. R. Amen

Almighty and Eternal God, give, we pray You, to our hands the strength of Your blessing, and grant this Your son Francis whom we anoint today with the royal anointing, the virtue and efficacy of this worthy anointing: form, O Lord, the power on His arm, that He may be strong, just, faithful, provident, and untiring towards His kingdom, be governor of Thy people, fighter of the infidels, scholar of justice, judge of merits and demerits, defender of Thy Holy Church and of the Aristotelian faith, in honour and praise of Thy glorious Name. Amen.

After the anointing with the sacred oil, Felipe, who was close to Cardinal Della Scala, went to the altar, took from a velvet cushion a sword with a jeweled guard and slowly approached the king, then he handed it to him and said:

Amen.

[EN] Receive the sword taken from the altar which is regally granted to you, and ordained for our blessing in defence of the Holy Church of God: that through it you may exercise strength and equity, destroy the army of injustice, and protect the Holy Church of God and its faithful: help and defend widows and orphans, rebuild what has been destroyed, and preserve what has been restored: avenge injustice, confirm good intentions; that by so doing, glorious in the triumph of Virtues and eminent scholar of justice, you may deserve to reign without end with the Lord, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen

Then, taking the sceptre, he handed it to him in his right hand, saying again:

Amen
Receive the sceptre of virtue and truth, which teaches you to take the righteous out of darkness, to frighten the wicked, to teach the way to the erring, to lay hand to those who err, to disperse the proud, to reveal the humble; and may our Lord open the doors to you. May he be a guide for you: and you may deserve in everything to follow Him, and by imitating Him, you love justice and hate iniquity, since the Lord Your God has anointed You, Who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen

It was the moment of the crown. The Cardinal took the crown from a red velvet cushion and showed it to the people. Then, he pronounced the rite words and placed it on the head of the sovereign.

Receive the crown of the kingdom, which is imposed on your head. In the name of the Most High, Aristotle and Christos. That just as we inwardly are shepherds and rectors of souls, so that outwardly you may always appear as a follower of God, a strenuous defender of His Church against adversity, and a useful rector and a profitable ruler of the kingdom entrusted to you by Him; that you may be crowned, adorned with the gems of virtue, with the prize of eternal happiness among the glorious athletes with our Lord, Who is God and lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen

Now the king had to sit on the throne and then he would be proclaimed.

The moment had been very sollenel and the King was carried by the officiants who made this ceremony blessed by the Lord a magical act and a rebirth.

After having received the traditional royal insignia according to ancestral customs, the King took a few steps towards the throne and took a stand on it, with his head turned to the officiants and the crowd gathered in the Basilica.

Become what you are, that words he heard hundreds of times when he was a child.

He felt that he had fulfilled his destiny, fully at the service of God and the subjects of his kingdom.

Franzisco II, by the authority of the Most High and the will of the Nation, we crown you King of the Crown of Aragon!

The Cardinal watched the king take his place on the throne; afterwards he addressed the crowd of the faithful and said in a strident voice:

    VIVAT REX IN ÆTERNUM!

    Before the ceremony started
She received Kalixtus' blessing with great joy, it was a deep relief for her to know that God was watching over her and that the Princes of the Church were looking at her with good eyes. With Gropius' greeting, Inés nodded her head. - Your Eminence, you have been very kind and attentive to all of us, I am grateful to you. Now I don't want to bother you, however I will be happy to share with you at the celebration banquet. -The young lady smiled innocently, and stepped aside to take her place as the cardinals began the ceremony.

    During the ceremony

The music was delightful. The choir, with its angelic voices, was capable of engrossing anyone's senses; Ines let herself be carried away by the moment, enjoying the melody that ran through each nave of the basilica. Next to the procession of cardinals from the sacristy, her gaze turned to the cross that presided over the altar. She soon made the gesture of the faithful, drawing another cross from her forehead to her chest, guided by the voice of the Cardinal. In nomine Altissimi. There was no more sacred formula for her. - Amen.– She said, with respect. She did not even remember that her brother would be there too, she was so focused on the ceremony that she could only see Cardinal Della Scala starting. Wh-wh-what? That was Latin? Her eyes opened like those of an owl. Until now she thought she understood Latin, but she was unable to understand anything they were saying. The lessons she received were not enough, she would have to improve that. Everything continued on a normal course, until the sovereign was given the attributes of royalty. Oh look! There's Felipe! Inés smiled proudly, her brother was handing over the sword of Justice to the King of the Crown of Aragon. Then followed the sceptre, and lastly, the most representative symbol of all, the crown. The person who was once known as Romain before he sat on the throne would now be known as King Franziscus when he rose from it.

VIVAT REX IN ÆTERNUM! - said Cardinal Della Scalla, cheering the crowd.

Inés, who was King of Arms of the Crown, followed him.

VIVAT REX FRANZISCUS.

Afterwards, the nobility chanted the same phrase. It was a privilege to be there, with all those cardinals and so close to God. The end of the ceremony was the beginning of the first reign that Agnes would follow closely.
