As I indicated, I would conduct a study on our inactive cardinal brothers. According to Book 5, Part II, Article 2.8 of the CIC, the following brothers are currently inactive.

Citation:
Adonnis 31/07/2023
Arnarion 02/08/2023
Enora dead
Richelieu 15/06/2023
Angus 12/07/2021
Mrgroar 20/08/2018
Teagan 05/06/2021
Palladio 16/11/2021
Aaron 21/03/2019
Attanasio 21/06/2022
Rodrigo 29/07/2022
Profeta 30/07/2021
Vede 20/03/2014
Adso 14/12/2017
Kiscsillag 07/02/2022
Neirin 29/12/2022
Richard de Cetzes 08/06/2023

And the brother, who on this very day celebrates a month of inactivity.

Citation:
Urbain_mastiggia 11/09/2023

Now the question, my eminent brothers, what can we do with them?

The question does not arise for me - the law says what to do - inactive cardinals who are inactive for more than one month can be given emeritus status.

This is what we should do. The arguments I made in relation to Adonnis apply equally to all cardinals.

This Curia has no place for inactive cardinals. That is simply the way it is. A work ethic that is results-oriented must finally return here.

If someone is absent, even if he has to be absent for a longer period of time, then he should announce this and appoint a deputy so that the work can be done.

A permanent long-term absence is not acceptable - not even with a deputy.

We need the expertise of the cardinals and not their ability to decorate these rooms or serve as dust collectors.

"Of course, the application of canon law is necessary, but I believe that it should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Not out of do-goodism but because if there have been communications, an extension of time can be considered.

The list presented by you, Cardinal Dean, includes both cardinals who still have an official position today and cardinals who are already emeritus and on the list of inactive if I'm not mistaken.

I believe that the two groups should be distinguished because for the question of Emeriti there is a commission that evaluates them."

Kalixtus is absolutely right, I add nothing. For emeritus, a delicate subject, we can leave just the title out of respect for the career spent in the service of the Church like Aaron, Angus or Mrgroar.

In this list only Adonnis, Arnarion and Urbain are the cardinals who would join this group.

The others are already emeritus. But we should think of what we should do with those who are simply gone and lost since years.

The cardinal-emeritus still has a function in our hierarchy based on the element of being useful. But for that the Cardinals should be active.

The only one who ever proofed, that a Cardinal-Emeritus is fitting that expectation is Cardinal Cathelineau.

Cardinals emeriti who are no longer active nevertheless deserve recognition for the work they have given in the past to the Curia and the entire Church. I therefore suggest that a special category be created, or a name change, to distinguish them from the active ones.

With regard to the absents, I repeat what I have already said, in a clearer way: if they have given notice of their absence, waiting a little while after looking for them is an act of friendship; if they have not given notice, look for them before the deadline expires.

It could be imagined to erect a memorial plaque for cardinals who finally and definitively leave these halls and Rome. A Hall of Memory in the Vatican Museums

Carrying it before us like a monstrance serves neither us, the Church nor the cardinals concerned.

Memorial, I like this idea. I wish I had my name written on a golden star across the street of the Vatican. Say brothers, I'm kind of a piece of museum myself ... but I'm not dead yet. Oh, I think it won't be long anyway ...but I remain cardinal, prince and servitor of the Holy Church and I'll die as a cardinal. Cardinals are not appointed, cardinals are created. Who arises as a cardinal, remains cardinal until death.

Nevertheless I'm ready to let my seat as Archancellor to get a new one fitted for my old bones from which I'll continue to advise. The Curia always is in need of good advices isn't it?

But as Archancellor and leader of the Pontifical Chancery I let the Pope to decide if I remain or not. Of course if he decides so, I'll follow the path of our most eminent, elder brothers and sisters by joining the very wise and most venerable club of the emeriti from which I'll take care of you all.

Ah ! What a good program! After all 'am ready for a new adventure.

I think Kalixtus is right, but I cannot disagree with Fenice as well..
We should look for a new category for inactive Cardinals Emeritus to distinguish them from active Brothers.
I would also wait for the Cardinals who are absent now, but were active just a few months ago, to return

As I said - Cardinal-Emeriti are useful, IF and only IF they are active.

Inactivity is a danger for the Church as much as incompetence.

I think a Hall of Memory could be a good way to give old Cardinals a tribute.

Their service is and never will be forgotten as long as they breath, but I guess if we become old, we become part of the stones that are holding this all together.

We can decide for example - if someone is one year absent from Rome or dead we can take him into the Hall of Memory. That will makes the work for the Emeritus-Comitee more easy. Cause in that case Cardinals will gone form the list and don't need to be checked for ever if they still breathing somewhere in the end of the world.

I'm thinking of a gold plaque and maybe a sentence or two about the cardinal's importance to the body of the Church and the dates of his service.

You see, I am not here to destroy cardinals I try to find a way to remember them without harming the functionality of the institutional church

The project of a walkaway of memory for Cardinals of the past had already been proposed exactly a year ago when several of them were dismissed on our request, if the desire for this project is still alive it would be about time to realise it.

As for the Cardinals listed by the Dean, the vast majority of them are inactive emeriti who have long lost any access to these halls.
Concerning the three active Cardinals, we are well aware of their current situation, which we have been informed of beforehand, and we have stood by our decision to respect personal needs as long as the anticipated times are respected.
Do not worry, archbrother Arnarion, today as always your head is yours to carry or lay down.

It may be outstanding that their "situation" is known to the Holy See, Your Holiness.

But it is undoubtedly impossible to ignore the fact that the continued absence of Cardinal Adonnis is crippling the work of the CNA, as well as the teaching of Portuguese students and his ordination and/or baptisms.

The concern for the Iberian Peninsula continues to grow with each passing day.

Likewise, the absence of Cardinal Urbain has already been detrimental to the Commission and the Cardinal in question had to be replaced, thus extending the Commission for another month.

These problems are not just a symptom which should be dismissed with a terse "the situation is well aware".

We have serious complications here in the congregations and in the objectives and timetables that are written out for meeting objectives.

I thank you for the "information" and now ask for appropriate solutions.

I understand the arguments presented by our brother Kalixtus: absent cardinals, and in general, those positions of importance left unattended, can create problems in the proper functioning of our Church.

However, and I apologise if I am a little emotional, I truly wish for the return of our brother cardinals. I therefore believe that it is better to look for temporary replacements in those positions, before proceeding with dismissals, especially considering how difficult it is to find new candidates for cardinals. Moreover, if we manage to find suitable replacements, they may be the future chancellors or prefects in those congregations, and during this time of interim, they can be adequately trained by us.

Not only is there a problem in the CNA or in the university, Urbain is my prefect of the Roman registers, and during these last months I have had to take care of his responsibilities. I now firmly intend to find a replacement for him, just in case he does not return.

As for the memorial, I agree.

Felipe as I said often - I might look always strict and hard and I know I can punch hard and I am not known for always fighting fair.

I never would say, Cardinal Adonnis is need to removed cause he and I have some points of disagreement. Thats not the case.

Adonnis and I have more agreements on subject of the church, as well as Arnarion and I have. Even Urbain and I have more agreements than disagreements.

I know, that people likes to have it smooth and calm and peacefully.
I know, that Cardinals here don't like trouble and hard decisions and facing reality.

I accepted, that I am one of the last Cardinals that speaks out what problems we have with the result that I am the bad guy.

Even I miss our beloved Cardinals that are gone. People of power and strength that would helped to face all the crab we have to deal with.

But I have to see, that we have a job to do. With them or without. And maybe it sounds always emotionless or hard or cold if I pointed out that problems and our duty, be aware of the fact, that I would expect the same you all have to do, if the time would come for me and the moment I will need to get replaced if I have not the strength to decide this by myself.

I couldn't exist here among our brothers and sisters if I am not able to do my job.

Anyway, don't think bad about me, just cause it seems that I am the evil in that story, cause I focuse also on the problems and not only on the sunshine. Someone needs to face the darkness to enlight a candle even if it hurts, even if it stinks, is bad, is ugly or doesn't make us happy.

Kali looks to Felipe and nods to him, hoping that he might understand, that Kali is working different and holds back his own feelings. After all the years in Germany he became emotionally introverted and use his extroverte attitude to hide his real personality to secure himself against attacks and aggression. That never means that he hate someone or is happy if someone is gone. Nobody loves to let people leave us and sometimes we are so angry about the fact someone left us, that the anger is so extrem and it is so hard to swallow it, the fact someone is gone, that the only thing in his mind is to not get confronted with him. In Kalis world it might be the point with Arduino. But he would never say nor tell anyone about that feelings cause those weakpoints would be terrible easy to use against the popes spider.

The memorial is certainly something that I think is a very good idea. A very respectable way to honor the Cardinals who have contributed to our church.

Now, I find it interesting that brother Kalixtus is concerned about the Hispanic church. What are your concerns? Although that is not the reason for this thread, so I see no reason to touch the subject here.
