The Protonothary Consul arrived late to the ceremony. Too much work... Following Philip's invitation, Adso came in front of the attendence.

I only knew the part of Pascal that was devoted to the Congregation of External Affairs. That part was already a lot. It's a pity that it's always the more dynamic ones that leave us first... Pascal was eager to help everybody, to spread the Faith, and to reach all the churches at the borders of Europe. I have the impression that he was very active, too, in the italian countries. This is a great loss for our Congregation and the Church.

Adso left something in the basket, and came back among the attendance.

Quando tutti si profusero nell'atto di amicizia, il vicarius urbis riprese la parola:

"Figliuoli, adesso celebriamo il segno della memoria.

Questa sepoltura ci ricorda molte cose:
- La memoria d' un amico aristotelico che ci ha appena lasciati. Di un uomo che aveva una storia, unica, con Dio. Che era circondato d'amore di Dio. Che ha fatto, o no, l' esperienza di quest'amore.
Noi numerosi in questa cattedrale, attorno a Pascal, per prendere coscienza di questo legame d' amore che l'ha sempre collegato a Dio, che collega Dio a ciascuno di noi, in ogni istante.
- La morte verrà per ciascuno di noi. Per gli uni presto, per gli altri più tardi. Per gli uni nella loro gioventù, per d' altri nella loro vecchiaia. Il Signore ci avverte: " Siate pronti, siate sempre pronti poiché non sapete né il giorno né l'ora".
Aristotele ci ha guidati e Christos ci invita a prendere esempio su lui, a trovare la nostra gioia di vivere per gli altri, amare come loro ci hanno amati.
La nostra presenza qui è preghiera. Invochiamo Aristotele che misuri i peccati del nostro fratello e che Christos intercede presso il Signore perché lo riceva nel suo Paradiso. "

Attese qualche istante prima di continuare:

"Prima di lasciare questo luogo sacro, diremo un ultimo addio al nostro fratello Pascal.
Con rispetto ed affetto, l'affidiamo a Dio nella speranza di trovarci un giorno presso Lui.

(un momento di silenzio)

Ecco il momento del segno dell'addio
Con tutti coloro che ci hanno preceduti e che vivono già presso il Signore, con la processione immensa dei Santi, auguriamo un buon ultimo viaggio alle sue spoglie mortali.

Ora ci recheremo in processione fino ad Avezzano dove verrà sepolto come da suo volere. Il viaggio è lungo ma per un uomo pio come lui questo sarà un piacere ed un onore per chiunque voglia seguirci nel cimitero."

E iniziò a camminare verso il nartece della chiesa per poi uscire all'esterno seguito dagli accoliti che avevano già issato sulle spalle la bara. Al suo fianco un incensiere emetteva fumi bianchi che profumavano l'aria.

When everybody did the Act of friendship, the vicarius urbis resumed to talk:

"Children,
now celebrate the sign of the memory.

This burial reminds us many things:
-the memory of a friend that Aristotelian has just left. A man who had a unique history with God. It was surrounded with love of God. He has done, or not, the experience of this love. Many of us in this Cathedral, around Pascal, to become aware of this bond of love which has always attached to God, which connects God each of us, at any time.
-Death is for each of us. For some, for others later. For one in their youth, for others in their old age. The Lord warns us: "be ready, be ready because you don't know neither the day nor the hour." Aristotle has led and Christos invites us to take example on him, to find out our joy of life for others, love as they have loved. Our presence here is prayer. Invoking Aristotle that measure the sins of our brother and Christos intercedes at the Lord because he receives in his paradise.

He waits a few moments before to continue:

"Before leaving this holy place, we will say a final farewell to our brother Pascal. With respect and affection, we entrust to God in hope of ending a day at him.

(a moment of silence)

Here is the moment of farewell sign with all those who have preceded us and already living at the Lord, with the immense procession of Saints, wish you a good final journey to his mortal remains. Now we will go in procession to Montecassino where will be buried. The journey is long, but for a pious man like him this will be a pleasure and an honor for anyone who wants to follow in the cemetery. "

La processione silenziosa arrivò dopo giorni di viaggio al cimitero di Montecassino. Il tempo era splendido con un limpido sole che illuminava il luogo sacro.
Giunsero nei pressi della tomba dove sarebbe stato tumulato Pascal.
Il fosso profondo era stato già scavato ed era sovrastato da una splendida lapide di marmo.

Gli accoliti posizionarono su delle corte la bara e il vicarius disse:

"Ora affideremo alla terra il corpo del nostro fratello in questo luogo in cui riposano già tanti defunti delle nostre famiglie. È venuto il momento di dirgli "a Dio".
E' un momento di tristezza, ma occorre che la speranza resta forte in noi. Poiché speriamo di rivedere Pascal quando Dio ci riunirà, nella gioia del Suo Regno.
Raccogliamoci pensando a tutto ciò che abbiamo vissuto con Pascal, e a quello che lui è stato per noi, a quello che è per Dio. "

La bara lentamente scese nella buca guidata dalle corde degli accoliti. Quando toccò il fondo si avvicinò al fosso e proclamò:


" Quest'acqua, ricordo del vostro battesimo,
ci ricorda che Dio ha fatto di te suo figlio.
Che ti accoglie oggi nella sua Pace! "

Poi alzando entrambe le mani disse la preghiera dei defunti:

La pace perenne accolga
Le spoglie mortali,
la luce del sole illumini,
l’anima piena di grazia
di tutti i fratelli e sorelle
che hanno lasciato la terra
e deciso di non rinascere
ma di affrontare il giudizio divino.
Ammettili, o Sommo Bene,
alla tua presenza.

Chinò un attimo il capo in rigoroso silenzio e proseguì:

"La cerimonia funebre è terminata cari figliuoli, chi vuole potrà gettare un pugno di terra sulla bara del nostro caro amico prima di lasciare questo luogo.

Vi benedico tutti."

The silent procession came after days of journey to the cemetery in Monte Cassino. The weather was clear with a beautiful Sun that illuminated the holy place. They arrived near the Tomb where he would be buried Pascal. The ditch was already dug deep and was surmounted by a marble tombstone.

The acolytes positioned on a court the coffin and the vicarius said:

"Now entrust to the ground the body of our brother in this place where buried already many dead of our families. The time has come to say goodbye. It's a moment of sadness, but that hope remains strong in us. Because we hope to revise Pascal when God will bring together, in the joy of his reign. Raccogliamoci thinking about everything we experienced with Pascal, and what he has been for us, what it is for God. "

The coffin slowly went down in the hole. When he touched the Fund approached the ditch and proclaimed:

"This water, remind you of your baptism, reminds us that God has made you his son. Who welcomes you today in his peace! "

Then raising both hands said the prayer of the dead:

Perpetual peace welcome the mortal,
the sunlight light,
full of grace,
the soul of all brothers and sisters
who have left the Earth
and decided not to be born again
but to face the judgment of God.
Departed into, or supreme good,
at thy presence.

Bent head in a moment the strict silence and continued:

"The funeral ceremony ended dear sons, who wants to be able to throw a handful of Earth on the coffin of our dear friend before leaving this place.

Koolike follows the procession, he throws a handful of Earth onto the coffin and made his way towards the exit, it had been done now his friend Pascal had been finally buried... May Jah recieve his soul up there in sun Pascal is now with the archangels watching over us...
