But I will certainly learn a lot there and so I will of course honour His Holiness's request.

I would be happy to serve the Sovereign Pontiff and the Curia again with a more active role! It's true that I'm a little rusty when it comes to Canon Law, but it's also true that taking up my studies again would only be good for my mind, making me forget a little about having aged so much.
It is also true, however, that I do not want to be an old catafalque who blocks the way for young people who have more possibilities than me to have a long and happy life in the grace of the Almighty!
Therefore, I confirm that I am available for any assignment the Holy Father or the Curia decides to give me, as long as I am not an obstacle to prelates who are younger and quicker than me.

Although I am heavenly flattered by the proposition of the Holy See and the Roman Curia, I have no other choice than refusing it. It seems my qualifications were well overestimated as I have very poor understanding of the Roman Justice which I only know from the Canonic Law perspective. Plus, the offer that has been made to me is of no little importance and is way higher than what I could pretend: indeed, I read the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature is destined to huge cases and possesses a moral superiority on the Inquisitorial Tribunal for instance. As I cannot imagine emitting a moral judgment on cardinals who are supposed to be wiser than me - even if put on trial -, this kind of affectation is deeply inappropriated to me and would engage certain legitimity problems.
Bypassing the moral legitimity statement, I am deeply aware of my lack of any kind of Inquisitorial knowledge which seems vital in this case. I have followed no Ordinary Justice or Extraordinary Justice courses; the later derivating from the first as a superior teaching, and the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature belonging to Extraordinary Justice. My Diploma of Theology is not sufficient for this particular charge as it did not give me the clues for giving justice but only for ruling a diocese and accomplishing my cleric mission. Besides, if I had to follow Justice courses in the future, it would probably only be for my cultural wealth and not to candidate to an important charge such as this. Judging my fellows, even more if they occupy an important role in the Church, does not relate to my desires since I prefer to meditate about our Dogma and improve my understanding of the Most High. Sincerely, I am uneased with conflicts and I aspire to peaceful works after what providence gave to me. The sins that lurk outside of the Church are more than enough to me to interest myself into those that are exposed inside some of the cardinals targeted by the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature. I think I feel better with contemplating examples of our faith rather than the worst at the summit of our venerable institution. Studying the rise of the true Children of God is much more inspiring in a personal way than knowing all about the downfall of the false Children at the present moment.
Considering all these facts, it seems evident I am unfit for the task you propose me to assume. I wonder by the way how my name has been suggested to you with such a high esteem. This is of course of no importance; I only hope you will find someone else who is interested to fill the benches of this tribunal as a referendary, and I give all my wishes of good continuation to the Roman Curia and the Holy See. May Faith and Reason guide us all, and may we be worthy of the divine cause we signed.
