Requirements:

The Church Way is the major path of the Church and Science Way. It is possible to select this way when one reaches level 3. The Church Way is associated with a minor path, the Science Way, as opposed to the State and Army Ways.

In order to choose the Church Way, it is necessary to meet the following requirements:

Citation:
Intelligence: 120
Charisma: 60
Strength: 60
Reputation Points: 100

Science way scholars have the option of switching to the Church Way.

Potential Careers:

In Game:

  • Parish Priest(ess): Appointed by the Bishop responsible for the parish's diocese, the priest is responsible for preparing the mass and performing the sacraments for the faithfuls. He may be assisted by a Deacon.

  • Bishop: Appointed by the Episcopal Assembly of his Primacy, the bishop is responsible for appointing the parish priests and canons within his diocese and directing this team. The bishop sits on the Episcopal Assembly of his or her primacy.

The following positions are not yet described in the Canon Law; the descriptions provided here are based on educated guesses.

  • Responsible for the Treasury: Appointed by the Bishop, the Canon Responsible for the Treasury serves on the Diocesan Council and is responsible for the financial management of the diocese (the nomination is active, but the functions don't yet exist IG -- solely RP).
  • Responsible for Relations with the Priests: Appointed by the Bishop, the Canon Responsible for Relations with the Priests serves on the Diocesan Council and allows the Bishop to nominate or remove a priest while present in the relevant parish. He also relays information between the Bishop and the priests (this last function exists only in RP).
  • Responsible for the Doctrine: Appointed by the Bishop, the Canon Responsible for the Doctrine serves on the Diocesan Council and in responsible for ensuring that the sacraments and sermons are conducted in accordance with the Canon Law (the nomination is active, but the functions don't yet exist IG -- solely RP).
  • Short-haired Dachshund: Appointed by the Bishop, the Short-haired Dachshund serves on the Diocesan Council and is responsible for relations between the diocese and the Inquisition (the nomination is active, but the functions don't yet exist IG -- solely RP).
  • Responsible for the Dioceses: Appointed by the Archbishop, the Canon Responsible for the Dioceses serves on the Archdiocesan Council and is responsible for communication between the Archbishop and the Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province (the nomination is active, but the functions don't yet exist IG -- solely RP).
  • Consultant on Religion: Appointed by the Archbishop, the Consultant on Religion serves on the Archdiocesan Council and is responsible for helping all priests in the Ecclesiastical Province with the organization of ceremonies (the nomination is active, but the functions don't yet exist IG -- solely RP).

All of the above positions require baptism and contact with the Aristotelian Church.

  • Preacher: All level 3 Church Ways can preach an idea in which their belief is greater than 80% (see the later chapter on this topic). However, it is necessary to pay attention to the specific local laws.

TRANSLATION NOTE: I'm not familiar with this, and so I'm not sure I've translated it correctly: Attention néanmoins aux règles locales spécifiques imposées par les Concordats potentiels.

RP Only Positions:

Many other positions exist within the Aristotelian Church, the official religion of the kingdoms. Inquisitor, pilgrim, theologiant, deacon, cardinal, vicar, episcopal guard, soldier or priest of the Holy Armies, missionary, apostolic nuncio, etc… Please visit Rome for more information!

Theological Studies - an Introduction

It should be known that, of all the Ways, the Church Way is the most complicated and takes longest to master. Therefore, imagine that you will spend many long months locked inside the University and its Library, the years passing you by... I'm not kidding...

There are three big stages in the life of a theology student:

  • Languages
    - Latin
    - Greek
    - Modern Languages

  • Moral Skills
    - Aristotle's Moral Principles
    - The Roman Church: Organisation and History
    - The Good
    - Virtue
    - Pleasure and Delight
    - Temperance
    - Justice
    - Friendship
    - A Seventh Thing

  • Ontotheology (for preaching)
    - Logic
    - The Sense of Being
    - The Beginning of the World
    - Theology: Science of the First Matters
    - Ontology: Science of Being

When a student begins his studies, he possesses a few of these skills.

NOTE: no mention thus far of Aristotle's Moral Principles or the Roman Church? I've added them as Moral Skills.

Languages:

The Church Way is the only way for which the study of languages is useful.

Languages can be taught with less than 100% mastery (even as low at 10%), but the students' level of improvement will be higher if the teacher is more proficient. If the ability of the student is very close to that of the teacher, the gains may be very small (or even nonexistent if the student is not an IG noble).

The "Reverse Method" refers to a process whereby a student and teacher with nearly equivalent language skill take turns teaching each other. A thorough discussion of this method is beyond the scope of this guide; visit here for more information.

The ability to read a book in the University library effectively is determined by your mastery of the relevant language. Personally, I recommend that you master Greek and Latin at 100% first, but others will advise that 51% is sufficient in the beginning. It takes a very long time to obtain 100% in the languages because their knowledge can be gained only in the classroom (not through self-study), and class seats are rare and expensive. Make language study your priority until you have mastered them.

When studying languages at the University, nobles may expect the following gains (divide by 2 if you're not a noble). If the difference between the level of the professor and that of the student is:

* more than 50%: the student increases his skill 7 to 12 points
* between 40 and 50 points: an increase of 6 to 10 points
* between 30 and 40: 5 to 8
* between 20 and 30: 4 to 6
* between 10 and 20: 2 to 5
* less than 10: 1 to 3
* less than 0: 0

Reading a book may sometimes increase your knowledge of the language in which the book is written by a few percent if your mastery of this language is approximately 51%. Having your mastery at a much higher or lower level eliminates this possibility.

Also, it's best to only read a book that enhances your belief in an idea if you have at least 200 Intelligence, thus obtaining in one reading the highest level of belief.

Here are all the various stages of language skill required for the reading of books at the University library:

Greek:

  • 51%:
    • Reading "The Nicomachean Ethics : I - The Study of the Good" gives "The Good" at 0%
    • Reading "The Nicomachean Ethics : II -The Virtue" gives "The Virtue" at 0%
    • Reading "The Nicomachean Ethics : III - Courage and Temperance" gives "Temperance" at 0%
    • Reading "The Nicomachean Ethics : V - Justice" gives "Justice" at 0%
    • Reading "The Nicomachean Ethics : VIII - Friendship" gives "Friendship" at 0%
    • Reading "The Nicomachean Ethics : X - True Happiness" gives "The wise man seeks to find happiness through meditation" at (Int/2)%
    • Reading "Timaeus" gives "Holy Being is Almighty" at (Int/2)%

  • 60%:
    • Reading "The Symposium" gives "Sensible Beauty is an Image of Eternal Beauty that any Soul has already contemplated once" at (Int/2)%
    • Reading "Parmenidas" gives "Things are Copies of the Ideas" at (Int/2)%

  • 65%:
    • Reading "Metaphysics Α" gives "Metaphysics is the study of first principles " at (Int/2)%
    • Reading "The Republic gives "The wise man must take part in the life of the city" (also requires Modern Languages at 65%) at (Int/2)%.
    • Reading "Physics" gives "Holy Being is Almighty" at (Int/2) %. Attention, it is also necessary to master (at 100%) "Logic"
    • Reading "Physics" gives "The essence of things is in the things themselves which gives them shape" at (Int/2) %. Attention, it is also necessary to master (at 100%) Logic".

  • 85%:
    • Reading "Metaphysics Z" gives "Metaphysics is the science of what is, as it is: being as being" at (Int/2) %
    • Reading "Metaphysics Γ (Gamma)" gives "Metaphysics is the science of what is, as it is: being as being" at (Int/2)%

  • 89%:
    • Reading "Metaphysics E" gives "The essence of the things is in the same ones, and gives them form" at (Int/2) %. Attention, it is also necessary to master (at 100%) "Sense of Being".

  • Unknown:
    • Reading "Poetics" gives "Beauty is the result of the harmony and rhythm of divine dimensions" at (Int/2)%.

Latin:

  • 25%:
    • Reading "De Natura Deorum (On the Nature of the Gods)" gives "Holy Being is Almighty" at (Int/2)%.

  • 54% (or possibly lower):
    • Reading "De Providentia (On Providence)" gives "Holy Being is Almighty" at (Int/2)%.

Modern Languagues:

  • 25%:
    • Reading "Parmenidas" gives "Things are Copies of the Ideas" at (Int/2) %.

  • 65%:
    • Reading "The Republic gives "The wise man must take part in the life of the city" (also requires Greek 65%) at (Int/2)%.

NOTE:
- Some of these books, including Metaphysics Γ (Gamma) and Parmenidas, are unavailable in England, Scotland and Ireland at this time.
- It is possible that the percentages listed above are one percent less than the actual level of language ability required for the books listed -- this requires confirmation.
- I edited the bit about teaching language skills. I'm not confident in the wording still, but it's more accurate.
- I added The Republic, with a listing under both Greek and Modern Languages. Thanks, Dainsleif.
- I moved the bottom two paragraphs up towards the top, as recommended by Masked1 -- that does seem to improve readability.
- I added a note about students not receiving much/any language skill from teachers with a similar level of language ability.
- I added De Providentia. Can anyone confirm that 54% is the required amount of Latin?
- I added Poetics as requiring an unknown level of Greek. If anyone knows the level, please let me know.
- I added a paragraph about the "reverse method"
- I added a section on the study gains for language classes.

Theological Studies -- Other Knowledge

The study of theology cannot be done in just any order -- there are conditions and prerequisites for certain subjects, and so it's best to follow a certain path so as to not waste your time with unproductive studies.

The 14 Church Way skills are divided into two branches, Morals and Ontotheology.

Morals:

Moral skills will probably be useful for confession, when it is coded.

There are two basic subjects that you should master at 100% before studying the seven advanced Moral skills, also known as the seven virtues.

  • Aristotle's Moral Principles: You will possess 50% of this skill at the beginning of your studies. Study by working along or enroll in classes at the University.
  • The Roman Church: Organization and History: Discover this skill by taking a class at the University and continue your studies through classes or self-study.

Next come the seven virtues. At the beginning of your studies, you will possess 20% mastery of two random Moral skills.

  • The Good:
    1. Achieve 51% in your knowledge of the Greek language
    2. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : I - The Study of the Good" to achieve 0% of The Good
    3. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : I - The Study of the Good" to achieve 50% of The Good

  • Virtue:
    1. Achieve 51% in your knowledge of the Greek language
    2. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : II -The Virtue" to achieve 0% of Virtue
    3. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : II -The Virtue" or "The Nicomachean Ethics : IV - Other Virtues" to achieve 25% of Virtue
    4. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : II -The Virtue" or "The Nicomachean Ethics : IV - Other Virtues" to achieve Virtue at 50%

NOTE: If your University library lacks "The Nicomachean Ethics : II -The Virtue" but does have "The Nicomachean Ethics : IV - Other Virtues," you can reverse the order. What matters is that you read both books to increase your knowledge beyond 50% and up to 70%.
NOTE2: It may be possible to increase your knowledge from 0 to 50% with a reading of either book.

  • Justice:
    1. Achieve 51% in your knowledge of the Greek language
    2. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : V - Justice" to achieve 0% of Justice
    3. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : V - Justice" to achieve 50% of Justice

  • Temperance:
    1. Achieve 51% in your knowledge of the Greek language
    2. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : III - Courage and Temperance" to achieve 0% of Temperance
    3. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : III - Courage and Temperance" to achieve 50% of Temperance

  • Friendship:
    1. Achieve 51% in your knowledge of the Greek language
    2. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : VIII - Friendship" to achieve 0% of Friendship
    3. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : VIII - Friendship" to achieve 50% of Friendship

  • Pleasure and Delight:
    1. Enroll in a class to discover this skill.
    2. Study alone or take classes until you reach 50%.

  • A Seventh Thing:
    1. Enroll in a course to discover this skill.
    2. Study alone or take classes until you reach 50%.

    And then:

    - To pass the 50% threshold for the seven Moral skills: master (at 100%) "The Roman Church: Organization and History." Then, study alone or take classes to advance your skill to 70%.

    - To pass the 70% threshold for the seven Moral skills: master (at 100%) "Aristotle's Moral Principles." Then, study alone or take classes to advance your skill to 100%.

It is also possible to discover these skills and then study alone or take courses to reach 50%. However, reading books to reach 50% is faster and less expensive, provided the books are available in your library (otherwise, you would have to travel to a different University library). While confession remains uncoded, these skills are not used as opposed to the Ontotheology skills, which are used to enhance your persuasiveness when preaching.

In any case, the last two virtues do not correspond to any of the books, so it will be necessary to discover them and advance your knowledge through classes or self-study.

    Ontotheology:

    There are five ontotheological skills.

Three of them have no prerequisites to block your mastery:

    • Logic: You will possess 50% of this skill at the beginning of your studies. To advance your knowledge, study alone or enroll in classes at the University.
    • The Sense of Being: Discover this skill by enrolling in a course at University and then advance your knowledge through classes or self-study.
    • The Beginning of the World: Discover this skill by enrolling in a course at University and then advance your knowledge through classes or self-study.

The final two skills have many prerequisites:

    • Theology: Science of the First Matters:
      1. Study alone or enroll in classes until you achieve 20%
      2. Master "Aristotle's Moral Principles" at 100%
      3. Master "Logic" and "The Beginning of the World" at 100%
      4. Study alone or enroll in classes until you achieve 70%
      5. Read "Metaphysics A" and then enroll in classes or study alone until you achieve 100%

NOTE: The various thresholds for this skill require confirmation. It may be possible to advance beyond with the listed thresholds while meeting only some of the requirements.

  • Ontology: Science of Being:
    1. Master "Aristotle's Moral Principles" and "Logic" at 100%
    2. Study alone or enroll in classes until you achieve 20%
    3. Master "The Sense of Being" at 100%
    4. Study alone or enroll in classes until you achieve 70%
    5. Read "Metaphysics Γ (Gamma)" and then enroll in classes or study alone until you achieve 100%

    NOTE:
    - Lots of unconfirmed speculation for these skills. If anyone can clarify the requirements, I'd appreciate it.
    - Weirdness with the bulleting on the lists -- does anyone know where the code error is? MrGroar had the same problem.

    Map of the Dioceses:

    http://picasaweb.google.fr/MrGroar/CartesDesRoyaumesRenaissants02

Many maps are available at this address, but the one labeled "Monde Religieux" is the one of concern to us now.

Click on it once to open it, then use the magnifying glass in the top right to zoom in. Be patient while the image becomes less blurry -- it can take a very long time. You can also download it.

    Preaching:

This chapter guides you in the development of your Transcendental Menu (found in "My house") so that you can preach the good word! Wink

Indeed, as a theologian of the Aristotelian Church, you can preach your ideas. Preaching is a daily activity undertaken instead of work or studies. While it earns you no money, it should provide you with some Points of Divine Truth (PVD), according to your persuasiveness.

When you aren't already working, go into your Transcendental Menu -- the line "You can preach" will appear. Click there to access this function and establish the parameters for your preaching.

    What Ideas Can I Preach?

It's possible to preach any idea in which your belief is 80% or greater.

    Citation:
    - 0-9% : What nonsense to think that...
    - 10- 19% : It seems improbable to you that one can say...
    - 20- 29% : A strange idea comes sometimes to your mind without convincing you completely:
    - 30- 39% : You say to yourself that maybe...
    - 40- 49% : It doesn't seem insane to you to pretend that...
    - 50- 59% : It seems reasonable to you to say that...
    - 60- 69% : You completely agree with the idea that...
    - 70- 79% : You completely subscribe to the idea that...
    - 80- 89% : You know that...
    - 90- 99% : You have wholly grasped that...
    - 100% : You're sure that...

Ideas believed at a level less than or equal to 30% may not be indicated in the transcendental menu.

    Faith

At the top of your transcendental menu is a gauge of your faith:

    Citation:
    Faith < - 50 : You don't believe. (not activated)
    - 49 < Faith < 0 : You doubt your faith.
    + 1 < Faith < + 29 : You are almost a believer.
    + 30 < Faith < +39 : You are a believer.
    +40 < Faith < +49 : You are a good believer.
    Faith = 50 : You are a true believer

TRANSLATION NOTE: MrGroar's guide breaks these down much more than this, but I couldn't be sure of the English equivalents. Instead, I am relying on the titles provided by Dainsleif in his Guide to Preaching in the Hall of Meeting.

When two of the ideas in your Transcendental Menu are in opposition, your faith declines.

You receive a few Faith points by attending mass or another religious event. Some say it's necessary to attend ten times to advance your faith one level, but I feel it takes even more.

    A level 0 can't drop below -20 faith points.

How do I Change my Beliefs?

    There are two methods:

    By listening to street sermons.

If the idea preached corresponds with your beliefs and the preacher's conviction is superior to your own, then your belief in this idea will increase.

If the idea preached is contrary to your beliefs and if the preacher's conviction is superior to your own, then your belief in this idea will increase and your belief in the opposing idea will decline.

If the preacher's conviction is less than yours, then he will lose PVD and your belief won't change.

Attention: you can not surpass 79% in the belief by listening to street preaching!!!

It isn't possible to know what idea is being preached where or when before listening to the sermon, unless the preacher announces his plans on any forum designated for this purpose (parish, diocese, Rome, etc.) This can be especially irritating at times.

By reading books in the University library.

Several books enhance beliefs when read.

      The Holy Being
    • The Holy Being is Almighty
      - De Natura Deorum (On the Nature of the Gods)
      - De Providentia (On Providence)
      - Physics
      - Timaeus

      Beauty
    • Sensible beauty is an image of eternal beauty that any Soul has already contemplated once
      - The Symposium
    • Beauty is the result of the harmony and rhythm of divine dimensions
      - Poetics

      Metaphysics
    • Metaphysics is the study of first principles
      - Metaphysics A
    • Metaphysics is the science of what is, at it is: being as being
      - Metaphysics Z
      - Metaphysics Γ

      Things
    • The essence of things is in the things themselves which gives them shape
      - Metaphysics E
      - Physics
    • Things are copies of the ideas.
      - Parmenidas

      Wisdom
    • The wise man seeks to find happiness through meditation
      - Nicomachean Ethics : X
    • The wise man must take part in the life of the city
      - The Republic

You may have noticed that the ideas are sorted by category, with two opposing ideas per category (except for "The Holy Being is Almighty," which has no opposite). If you read the book for the idea opposed to the one in which you already believe, then you put yourself in doubt, and your idea will decrease by 3% per day each day until the idea disappears altogether. This will also cause a drop in your faith gauge, so be careful to avoid this especially when atheism is implemented as it will penalize you greatly.

Your Intelligence determines the percentage of belief you receive after reading the appropriate book. You can simply divide your intelligence by two. Thus, if your Intelligence is 160 when you read the book, you will have an 80% belief in the idea, which is sufficient to preach the idea. But, it would be better to attain 200 in Intelligence, thus gaining the full 100% of the belief from a single reading and helping to reduce the cost of your studies. Also, you will receive more PVD from a stronger belief (100%).

    Persuasiveness

The persuasiveness of your preaching will be increased with your mastery (at 100%) of the Ontotheology skills.

    Citation:
    - 0 skills => 2
    - 1 skill => 4
    - 2 skills => 6
    - 3 skills => 10
    - 4 skills => 16
    - 5 skills=> 32 (bonus)

However, your persuasiveness may depend on your level of belief in the idea rather than your mastery of the Ontotheological skills. If the difference between your belief level in the idea preached and 80 is less than your persuasiveness obtained through skills, then that value is the one that matters. The smaller of the two values is definitive...

Here are three examples to clarify the issue:

    Citation:
    Example 1:
    - I preach the idea, "The Holy Being is Almighty," which is indicated in my transcendental menu as "You have wholly grasped that..." (equivalent to a belief level of 90-99% -- here we will assume it is 95%)
    - 95% - 80% = 15 persuasiveness
    - I have mastered four of the ontotheological skills at 100%: 16 persuasiveness

-> In this example, I will have a persuasiveness of 15, rather than 16.

    Example 2:
    - I preach the idea, "The Holy Being is Almighty," which is indicated in my transcendental menu as "You have wholly grasped that..." (equivalent to a belief level of 90-99% -- here we will assume it is 97%)
    - 97% - 80% = 17 persuasiveness
    - I have mastered three of the ontotheological skills at 100%: 10 persuasiveness

-> In this example, I will have a persuasiveness of 10, rather than 17.

    Example 3:
    - I preach the idea, "The Holy Being is Almighty," which is indicated in my transcendental menu as "You're sure that..." (equivalent to a belief level of 100%)
    - 100% - 80% = 20 persuasiveness
    - I have mastered five of the ontotheological skills at 100%: 32 persuasiveness

-> In this example, I will have a persuasiveness of 32, rather than 20. This is because mastering all five ontotheological skills gives an impressive 32 persuasiveness by default, whether your belief level is at 80% or 100%!

    What idea should I preach?

As a general principle, people born in an area will typically believe the ideas contained in the books of their local library. Thus, the majority ideas of a duchy are logically those found in its library.

That's why preachers are normally authorized to preach only these ideas. Currently, the Universal Church has no position on this; the bishops are responsible for the politics of preaching in their diocese.

However, being a theologian does not imply that one belongs to the Aristotelian Church. Also, while your Transcendental Menu includes only the Aristotelian ideas (the Spinozist and Averroist ideas will arrive at some point), you have the right to preach whatever you wish. Be aware, however, that you risk receiving a complaint from your local bishop if you don't conform to the rules that s/he has enacted.

The possibility of a "war of ideas," as mentioned by Levan in the official announcements, encourages us to think that preachers will be encouraged to fight to influence their congregations.

    Where to Preach?

There are five possible locations for street preaching:

    - In front of the taverns
    - In the church
    - In the town hall
    - At the market
    - At the gates of the town ("Travel")

The choice of a location is completely your decision, but allow me to give you some advice:

    - The town hall is active near elections
    - The church is active near mass times
    - Keep an eye on the taverns to see if they're populated
    - The market is guaranteed to be busy
    - The town gates... Frankly, I never preach there

Only one preacher may preach in any location at the same time, but preachers can change their location after preaching for one hour.

If you decide to preach in a location and then discover than someone else is there already, you must wait an hour before you can move.

Attention: only other players can see your sermon. If you wish to check your text, do so before validating. Afterwards, you'll have to ask someone else to tell you what it says.

    Additional Information:

    - Chapter on Ontotheological Skills.
    - Official announcement from Levan regarding preaching and the ideas (in French).

Earning PVD through Service to the Church:

It is also possible for those who hold positions in the Church to earn or lose PVD as the faith of those in their religious zone rises or falls. For example, each day, a bishop earns 1000 PVD if his diocese's faith doesn't change + 1000 PVD for each faith point gained by day (on average). If the average faith of the diocese declines, then the bishop doesn't earn this base of 1000 PVD, and he loses 1000 PVD for each faith point lost (on average) within the diocese.

Members of the Diocesan Council (except for the canon responsible for the doctrine) gain 60% of this benefit or penalty. The canon responsible for the doctrine earns 90% of the benefit of penalty.

For priests, averages are calculated at the parish level. The base benefit of a priest in a parish with stable faith is 400 PVD, with 300 PVD gained or lost for each point rise or decline in average faith.

TRANSLATION NOTE: The first link will need to be updated after this guide is published -- the link provided is to the French text.

I added a section about PVD earned by bishops, canons, and priests.

    Citation:
NOTE: no mention thus far of Aristotle's Moral Principles or the Roman Church?

They should fall under Moral skills.

    Citation:
NOTE: This is inaccurate -- you can teach a language with a much lower level of skill. In Cornwall, we are offering Modern Languages at 32%.

Yes, that would definitely require changing to remove confusion.

    Citation:
NOTE: Books are missing from this list, including: The Republic, On Providence, and Poetics.

Its kind of shameful to admit, but I started the trend of translating Latin names to English since I wasn't sure if people understand their meaning. So I guess we should keep only the Latin part in "official" guides.
Namely De Natura Deorum (On the Nature of the Gods) and De Providentia (On Providence).

Of these 3 only the The Republic is available in England and is thus use for us. Also it has been proven that it requires 65%+ Modern languages in addition to X amount of Greek.

    Also this:
    Citation:
    България (Tsartsvo Bulgaria)

I am not entirely certain that non-slavic speakers profit from the simple transliteration so could that part be replaced with "Kingdom of Bulgaria". (Tsartsvo actually means an Empire, but Bulgaria was widely known as Kingdom in that time not Empire)

    Citation:
TRANSLATION NOTE: MrGroar's guide breaks these down much more than this, but I couldn't be sure of the English equivalents. Instead, I am relying on the titles provided by Dainsleif in his Guide to Preaching in the Hall of Meeting.

Its actually quite weird... I have not encountered in England any of the idea levels outside those listed in my guide. But I guess his version keeps future coding in mind.

    Citation:
My guide includes Timaeus for this idea also?

Yes, I am quite sure many of us can vouch Timaeus giving that Idea.

    Citation:
My guide includes The Symposium for "Things are Copies of the Ideas" also?

I can confirm that this book doesnt give that Idea. Which version did you use? I am maintaining the ones in Sussex, Cumberland and here. Made that error awhile back and hopefully cleared... but apparently not good enough.

    Wow! Very nicely done!

    I noticed a few things...

    Citation:
The effectiveness of reading books in the University library is determined by your mastery of the relevant language
This may be really picky, but, to me, this wording could imply a relationship like "higher mastery = more effect" instead of a threshold mastery of language required.
Perhaps, "The ability to read a book in the University is determined by..." might be clearer.

    Citation:
Personally, I recommend that you master Greek and Latin at 100% first, but others will advise that 51% is sufficient in the beginning. It takes a very long time to obtain 100% in the languages because their knowledge can be gained only in the classroom (not through self-study)
    ...
Reading a book may sometimes increase your knowledge of the language in which the book is written by a few percent if your mastery of this language is approximately 51%. Having your mastery at a much higher or lower level eliminates this possibility.
The second statement is an exception to the first. Perhaps it should be moved from the bottom of the page and integrated with the first.

My experience is that reading a volume of NE with 50% will not provide an increase in Greek. 51% will. Higher than 57% will not. The upper limit could be lower.
I read NE III with 51% Greek and received an increase of 3% in Greek skill. With the event logged: "You improved your language skills with your readings." Reading NE V, gave me a 4% increase in Greek. Both readings also gave the knowledge expected. (No more Greek Bonuses after 57% for me.)

    Citation:
NOTE: This is inaccurate -- you can teach a language with a much lower level of skill. In Cornwall, we are offering Modern Languages at 32%.
I and others in Worcester University have taught Language with 10% mastery. There may not be a lower limit. It might be worthwhile to add a note that gains when studying with teachers having lower mastery than students are very low and sometimes zero for students without an IG Lordship.

    Citation:
    65%:
    * Reading "Metaphysics Α" gives "Metaphysics is the study of first principles " at (Int/2) %
    * Reading "Physics" gives "Holy Being is Almighty" at (Int/2) %. Attention, it is also necessary to master (at 100%) "Logic"
    * Reading "Physics" gives "The essence of the things is in the same ones, and gives them form" at (Int/2) %. Attention, it is also necessary to master (at 100%) Logic".
I did not see any indication what the listed percentage means. In some cases they seem to be the minimum required mastery and in other indicate a required mastery greater than the number.
Consistently using minimum required mastery would be less confusing.

    Citation:
NOTE: Books are missing from this list, including: The Republic, On Providence, and Poetics
Poetics, The Republic and De Providentia are missing from the first list, but they are included in the library locations later.

De Providentia (On Providence) gives "Holy Being is Almighty"(Successful reading has been reported with 54% Latin. The limit may be lower.)
I believe Wiltshire University IG lists the name of the book as ""De providentia (On Providence) - Seneca - Latin"
The Republic is said to require 66% Mastery in Modern Language. (and give the idea "the wise man must take part in the life of the City")

Poetics IDK it isn't in England Scotland or Ireland. [We have only sensible beauties here Wink ]

    Citation:
    Virtue:
    4. Read "The Nicomachean Ethics : II -The Virtue" or "The Nicomachean Ethics : IV - Other Virtues" to achieve Virtue at 50%
For me, NE II worked exactly like the other volumes. Read once for the knowledge at 0% and a second reading for 50%. Probably different paths to the same 50%.

    Citation:
It's possible to preach any idea in which your belief is more than 80%.
Should that not be "80% or greater"?
Perhaps better to add the descriptor: "You know that ..."

    Citation:
    - 0-9% : What a shame to think that...
    - 10- 19% : A strange idea comes sometimes to your mind without convincing you completely:
    - 20- 29% : It seems improbable to you that one can say...
    - 30- 39% : You say to yourself that maybe...
    - 40- 49% : It doesn't seem insane to you to pretend that...
    - 50- 59% : It seems reasonable to you to say that...
    - 60- 69% : You are completely convinced that...
    - 70- 79% : You completely subscribe to the idea that...
    - 80- 89% : You know that...
    - 90- 99% : You have wholly grasped that...
    - 100% : You're sure that...

I believe "A strange idea..." should be 20-29% and "It seems improbable..." should be 10-19%.
"What a shame" has been re-translated to "What nonsense to think that..."
"You are completely convinced that" Has been re-translated to "You completely agree with the idea that..."

I think backwards so I reversed my list:
    100% You're sure that...
90-99% You have wholly grasped the idea that ...
    80-89% You know that ...
70-79% You completely subscribe to the idea that ... EDIT 7/7/1456 this is "You are completely convinced that..."
60-69% You completely agree with the idea that ...
50-59% It seems reasonable to you to say that ...
40-49% It doesn't seem insane to you to pretend that ...
30-39% You say to yourself that maybe ...
20-29% A strange idea comes sometimes to your mind without convincing you completely: ...
10-19% It seems improbable to you that one can say that ...
0-10% What nonsense to think that...

    Citation:
beauty results from certain proportions, harmonious measures and rhythms
This has been re-translated to, "beauty is the result of the harmony and rhythm of divine dimensions,"

    Citation:
The essence of the things is in the same ones, and gives them form
This has been re-translated to, "the essence of things is in the things themselves which gives them shape."
[Not much of an improvement, is it?]

    Citation:
Happiness is a kind of meditation
Has been re-translated to: "the wise man seeks to find happiness through meditation."

    Citation:
If the preacher's conviction is less than yours, then he will lose PVD and your belief won't change.
Scary for an ignorant new preacher Crying or Very sad Has this been verified?

Finally, Thank you, Mother Eraine. Thank you!

    EDIT oops One more

    Citation:
    * Theology: Science of the First Matters:
    1. Master "Aristotle's Moral Principles" and "The Sense of Being" at 100%
    2. Study alone or enroll in classes until you achieve 20%
    3. Master "Logic" and "The Beginning of the World" at 100%
    4. Study alone or enroll in classes until you achieve 70%
    5. Read "Metaphysics A" and then enroll in classes or study alone until you achieve 100%
If this is intended to say that AMP and The SOB are required to be at 100% before passing 20% in the subject, it is incorrect.
I have 41% and my SOB% is only 74%. (despite rumors that it is higher)

in fact you need to read both to reach 100% I think i remind you can reach 70% with only one of them.

MrGroar didnt' finish yet and there are mistakes to correct; feel free to send him notes.

I am studying Theology with 60% of AMP and 15% of Sense of Being. There is no prerequisite until one reach 20% of Theology, I think.

My apologies, I've had a very busy day today (RL work, rumors about sea lanes, regent elections possibly necessitating a reshuffling of my council positions, etc.) I will try to start incorporating these edits over the weekend (or someone else with moderator powers could beat me to it).
