Feast of Renewal - April 5th - Saint Paulos Cathedral
Presiding: Brother Nikolai Alexei Volkov

Citation:
Smiling and nodding his head in greeting as people began to enter, Nikolai waited for those present to be seated before he began.

"For those who have traveled from near and far, know that you are welcomed in Friendship under His divine guiding light. We gather here today..." he said in a clear strong voice. "...to reflect on those who have gone before us and remember."

"In the name of Almighty Jah, let us pray"he said then recited the creed from heart.

"I believe in Jah, the Most High Almighty,
Creator of the Sky and the Earth,
Hell and Paradise,
Judge of our heart until the hour of death.

And in Aristotle, the prophet,
The son of Nicomachus and Phaestis,
Sent to teach wisdom
And the divine laws of the Universe to straying men.

I also believe in Christos,
Son of Maria and Joseph.
Who dedicated His life to show us the way to Paradise.
Thus after He suffered under Ponce the Procurator,
He died as a martyr to save us.
He joined the Sun where Aristotle waited on the right-hand side of the Father.

I believe in Divine Action;
In the Holy Roman Aristotelian Church;
In the communion of Saints;
In the remission of sins;
In Eternal Life.

AMEN"

Smiling as those gathered spoke the creed, the Missionary placed bother hands on either side of the lectern and looked out over the flock.

"Today is a special day. This day, The Feast of Renewal, signals the end of Lent. , which had its begining 40 days (Not including Sundays) past on Ash Wednesday, back on February 18th."

"The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, penance, repentance of sins, almsgiving, atonement and self-denial." Nikolai said.

"There are traditionally forty days in Lent which are marked by fasting, both from foods and festivities, and by other acts of penance. The three traditional practices to be taken up with renewed vigour during Lent are prayer (justice towards Jah), fasting (justice towards self), and almsgiving (justice towards neighbour)."he explained.

"However, some observers give up an action of theirs considered to be a vice, add something that is considered to be able to bring them closer to Jah, and often give the time or money spent doing that to charitable purposes or organizations." he said.

"Let us observe, from The history of my people (by Mhour)"he said and opened the Book of Virtue then began to read.

"The Destruction of Oanylone was only the beginning of our punishment. We called it “Ash Wednesday".

There were seven groups now speaking different languages and suspicious of each other, but with very little food ... Our group took the direction of the sunset and walked for forty days.

During the forty days we had very little to feed us, just this strange nourishing plant that had previously only been used to feed pigs and bread found on one of the ships which had fled the city and some fish that were reserved for the children before we left. We therefore replaced food with prayer, and the pleasures of penance. The people cursed, having preferred pleasure to prayer and contemplation.

On the fortieth day, Oane appeared to us. Those who had seen his statue in the great temple, recognized him directly and knelt, striking their chests, begging him to intercede for them with Jah. He went to my father and said:

"Mhour thy son is the first born from the day of the ashes. You have guided your tribe forty days in deprivation and prayer without asking anything for yourself. Know that your prayers have been heard and that tomorrow will be a fat day for you. You will stop lamenting the faults of the elders, because Our Creator said, "I will judge according to the life one leads", not for the sins of their fathers.

You must live for the future and not mourn the past, be the guide of thy people, and teach your son, who will open the way that leads to the prophets.

Jah only asks for your love and you can only give it to him if you love yourselves. Forgiveness of sins is given to those who repent, but you are banished if you recur against the given word.

Tomorrow is a gift from Jah. Celebrate because it is the day of renewal, that the past forty days are not the image of your life. Do not seek Jah in suffering, but remember that you have suffered not only for what is lost. I will let you continue your life. Rest and celebrate with all that is left of the food and wine, for tomorrow will be the day of renewal."

My tribe therefore feasted, those who still had bread shared it with their neighbor. Wine was also shared to the last drop, and this day was the first ‘fat’ day since the wednesday of ashes. Everyone slept like me, that is to say, like a large baby, which I was, and waking up with the sun the people saw that there was a spring flowing nearby, and a little further on, an oasis filled with fruit and animals.

In the center of the oasis stood a pillar on which was fixed the tablet of Oane, the tablet containing the commandments of Jah. This stone which had been engraved by the fingers of the Creator and entrusted to the first community to never forget that beyond love, we were also linked to the law of creation. This stone which nevertheless had disappeared with the city was there … intact, but written in a language that we did not know how to read anymore ... But the laws of the Most High, we were not ready to forget again.

It is there, close by the pillar that most of my people settled. For over forty years of peace and happiness we have lived here, and we pray to Jah to forgive his children. Others continued towards the sea and beyond the sea, to extend the human race from the creation."

He finished the reading and looked over those gathered, giving them time for the story to bury itself deep in their hearts.

Nikolai took a deep breath and looked up from the book and smiled sadly.

“We remember Ash Wednesday as the day the city of Oanylone was razed to the ground. Jah, in his wisdom, as part of the punishment, created different languages for humanity to speak.

Some may ask, if Jah loved us so, why punish us as he did. Simply remember, that He, above all of his creatures, bestowed upon us the ability to love. For he loves us and as a loving parent must disciplined their child, so has He disciplined us when we went astray.

The survivors now, who spoke different languages, formed different tribes and set out into the world to repopulate it and create nations of man.

One group in particular decided to head towards the setting sun and walked for forty days, experiencing such great hardships but also repenting their sins and praying to Jah, never letting their Faith be swayed.

We observe Lent to remember their struggle and also meditate on our own sins. It is therefore a time of fasting, meditation and prayer. Much so as our ancestors did.”
He said.

“On the fortieth day Oane appeared to this group to let them know that Jah had heard their prayers. That they should feast on their remaining food and wine, as the next day was the day of Renewal. So they did and the next day found that Jah had provided a place where they could settle, with plenty animals, water and vegetation, along with a pillar holding the tablet of Oane, on which is engraved the commandments of Jah. “

Nikolai smiled and looked around, trying to take in each face.

“What is the message in this story? What can be gained by observing the past?” he asked the rhetoric and looked around.

“No matter how grave we think we have sinned, if you truly repent those sins, Jah will forgive them for he only asks for our love…nothing more and nothing less.” He said then smiled, “He does not judge us by the sins of our fathers but by our own actions.”

“But remember, That suffering should not be looked on as a way to reach Jah. We suffer to understand our sins, such as when we do a penance, but once done, move on to live a more virtuous life.” he said in closing.

Nikolai took a moment to let the words sink in before he would continue with the prayer.

Nikolai smiled and nodded then said, "Let us pray."

"Jah, the Most High Almighty,
look upon us and hear our prayers
during this holy Season of Lent.
By the good works You inspire,
help us to discipline our body
and to be renewed in spirit.

Without You we can do nothing.
By Your Spirit help us to know what is right
and to be eager in doing Your will.
Teach usto find new life through penance.
Keep us from sin, and help us live
by Your commandment of love.
Jah of love, bring us back to You.
Send Your Spirit to make us strong
in faith and active in good works.
May our acts of penance bring us Your forgiveness,
open our heart to Your love,
and prepare us for the coming feast
of the Renewal.

O' Almighty Jah, during this Lenten Season,
You have nourish us with Your Word of life
and make us one
with You in love and prayer.

Fill our heart with Your love
and keep our faithful to your Word.
Give us the grace to rise above our human weakness.
Give us new life by Your Sacraments, especially the Mass.

Jah, our source of life,
We reach out with joy to grasp Your hand;
let us walk more readily in Your ways.
Guide us in Your gentle mercy,
for left to ourselves, we cannot do Your Will.

Our Jah of love, source of all blessings,
help us to pass from our old life of sin
to the new life of grace.
Prepare us for the glory of Your Kingdom.
We ask this as your loving Children.

Amen."

Nikolai looked around and smiled widely. "Thank you all for coming together in Faith and Friendship on this most special day. Please now join me, as our ancestors once did, in breaking Lent and enjoying the bounty of the Feast of Renewal." he said. "Food and drink will be outside for whoever wishes to partake."

"Jah bless." he said finally and stepped down after retrieving his book and fastening it to his belt holder and made his way outside to greet and socialize with any one who wishes to attend.

Food outside.
