        Office of the Praepositus Generalis

This is the office used by the Paepositus Generalis, the leader of the Jesuits. It is a secluded, quiet place overlooking the courtyard. On a long table which has a high armchair at the top where the praepositus sits, there are various chairs for the conferences. The room itself accommodates paintings, art and belongings of the Cardinal. Of course, selected books about the mysteries of theology should not be missing, but also other scientific works find their place here opposite the fireplace. The entrance is spacious and secured. Access is only granted on request or invitation.

However, the main focus is on the imposing desk where the fate of the order is decided. There the boss was enthroned most of the time - some called him the Black Pope, why - because the Jesuits were guardians, they were on the trail of God's secrets and they were interested in connecting knowledge and power. Unlike other orders, the Jesuits try to influence the organization of the Vatican and of course the Holy See. Black - like the robes they wore. But in these times the current pope did not wear a black robe he exchanged the Jesuit robe with the white robe of the Holy Father. The Jesuits led the church but they would not rule alone, they shared power with those who were competent.

Angus arrived to Rome once more, even though he didn't particularly like the city itself, but having a special mission this time he couldn't care less. Hence, his personal feelings didn't have any significance in the face of the purpose of the long voyage he undertook from the far-off Brittany. Accompanied by a small, but vicious armed retinue on horseback, Angus stopped in front of his destination, the Trium Fontium Abbey. Dismounting from his magnificent black stallion, the young prelate instructed his escort to remain outside, awaiting his return. Few moments later he disappeared from their sight behind the doors of the mysterious Abbey. He was being expected.

Halls, corridors and staircases. One could easily lose his way, but just as all roads lead to Rome, so do all of these bring you in front of a special door. It was the office of the Praepositus Generalis, but neither were these ordinary door, nor an ordinary office. Once you cross its doorstep one enters a whole different world, mysterious and seductive. And even more than that. This portal to a new dimension was about to open in front of young Angus who took last few moments to arrange his clothes, a peculiar combination of knightly gear and ecclesiastical robes, but carefully selected for an unusual yet very elegant style. A pleasant light fragrance of rose in his long wavy red hair stood in contrast with his somewhat menacing attire, creating a sort of a sexy mixture.

Angus knocked at the door and gently pressed the lever. He stepped into another dimension.

As Angus was knocking and pushing the lever, a shadow passed beside the Breton Primate and entered the office.

It hovered for a moment, before touching lightly the forehead of another shadow. This second shadow was alive and well, being the Praepositus Generalis. Did he feel the kiss on his forehead, that Hull's ghost had just placed on him?

Perhaps, perhaps not. The first shadow, the ghost of the departed Northshire, then left the room as Angus was now entering it.

    ---

The first signs of the disease appeared on his way to Rome, his complexion had become pale, of a livid color. Compared to his mine, even Hull’s corpse from the bottom of his coffin probably seemed much more fit and, above all, colorful. He coughed indefinitely, a violent coughing, at this sometimes thin limit to spit out his lungs. All these signals prevailed no good omen, so the Cardinal hoped to find a good doctor upon his arrival in the Eternal City.

The letter from Brother Kalixtus asked him to present himself to Tre Fontana, and obviously the old man did not want to miss this appointment regardless of the magnitude of this disease gradually setting in. He might go to the venerable Hull, who died here. Who knows, his valetudinary health would one day actually kill him. Helped by his cane, the purple man joined the office of the praepositus generalis where, in front of the door, Angus was waiting.

Pax tecum, my brother. You, here, too?

    He coughed in his handkerchief.

The return to Rome did not fall to him hard, he loved that city, in the world known as Eternal. Only this time he was much more experienced. He carried with himself some texts of the dogma which he translated, the list of sacraments from his kingdom and the stuff like that. But there was also one invitation, written on beautifully decorated paper, and sealed with a crimson red seal. It was a letter from Her Exc . Caille Jolline McKinnon Rose, in which calling Augustinus to visit Paepositus Generalis ,office of the leader of the Jesuits.

Augustinus walked through a backyard filled with flowers and trees, and if he had thick mustache, some of these beautiful smells are passed through to his nose.
    * I hope I'm in the right place*
He walked to the large wooden doors, which are adorned with many religious motifs, hand-carved.
    He knocked and said:

    “Hello.”

      ~ Sanctus ~

Kalixtus sat on the chair like a throne and closed his eyes for a short moment. He felt the presence from the shadow realm and he knew whose soul had still not let go. Probably he had only imagined it or wished it. He had not visited Hull on his deathbed. He was also not welcome at the House of Northshire - Kalixtus respected this but he also respected the accomplishments Hull gave to the Church. The ideas, the thoughts and these to complete, had to be taken care of by the coming generation, to whom Kalixtus belonged. On the day of the death of Hull, the Order lost an important actor but also a political orientation. He stood for a different direction of the Jesuits, for education and catechesis, not for political intrigue or the promotion of political power. Kalixtus relied on education and that the best would prevail because they were the best and not because they claimed the majority of the Curia. For Kalixtus it all plays a greater role and it was important to move away from the old structures and to set new accents, he did so and so it was not a surprise that many saw him as an opponent of Hull. That is only half of the truth as so many half truths are considered perfection.
Kalixtus smiled softly. It is time to go, Hull. This place has nothing more to offer your soul.

Humiliare sub potenti manu Dei; contremisce et effuge, invocato a nobis sancto et terribili Nomine, quem inferi tremunt, cui Virtutes caelorum et Potestates et Dominationes subiectae sunt; quem Cherubim et Seraphim indefessis vocibus laudant, dicentes: Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth.

Kalixtus recited the part of exorcism that liberates and directs the Spirit. It is said only who has the strength in life and the unity in faith is able to guide the world of spirits and demons. Kalixtus was such a man. He held up his index finger and seemed gracious and strict. The spirit of a friend, the spirit of an enemy, the spirit that must find its judgement in eternity. This was the will of God. He lit an incense burner with fragrant incense before sitting down again, he had risen briefly during the ritual. Shortly he gathered with closed eyes around his inner center and then smiled. Come in. The door opened and Angus, Iaudas and Krasoljub would enter. He would miss Adelheid and Ode but would not forget them. They would have to wait for the next cycle because this was the moment of the men and they were all different. Kalixtus sat upright surrounded by the smoke of the incense and certainly appeared terribly sacred to the beautiful man from Brittany, then to the old man who looked very ill today - Kalixtus looked very twice, he would keep him here later, then he looked at the youngest newcomer from Croatia. The door would close behind them and Kalixtus' voice would rain down on them like a flowing sea like golden rays of sunshine on a beautiful spring morning and their spirits would be refreshed by the words he gave them and which echoed from the walls until they waved into the heads of the people to a melody like honey which dripped thickly from the branches and sweetened everything.

      Dominus vobiscum selected ones

Once inside the office, the doors closed and Angus was pleased to notice the elegance of the room, its interior revealing a refined taste of its current owner. One might expect to see an expression of surprise on the face of the young prelate from Brittany, but Angus was no stranger to fine things in life and it was a feeling of satisfaction to conclude that a good taste was something that he obviously shared with the Praepositus Generalis. Wheter there was more than this, it remained to be discovered. However, the expert eye of the Briton took but a brief and discreet glance to capture the appearance of the entire room, without giving away any sign of excessive curiosity. Nevertheless, Angus wasn't alone in the office, so he addressed a polite smile to Iaudas and Krasoljub as a sign of greeting. Then the piercing emerald gaze of Angus, one that invisibly peels off layer after layer until the soul of the observed person lies naked in front of the Briton, fixed upon the handsome man sitting in a chair, shrouded in a mist of burning incense which bestowed upon him a special aura of mystery. Angus observed him closely, attempting to slowly penetrate deep into his spiritual being, but it seemed that Kalixtus was doing just the same. One can only wonder what these two intriguing men might discover about one another.

Et cum spiritu tuo, Your Eminence.

Krasoljub carefully walked to the office because he did not want to produce loud sounds of walking on a wooden parquet, and in his nature, he always had doubts about arrivals in new places. When he finally enter to the office, all the fears and suspicions he had, they were gone, when he saw an elegant, tall man who radiated with charisma, dressed in his red clothes. Beside him are standing and two also posh men, who had warmly welcomed by Krasoljub with a smile and a slight movement of the head.
Kalixtus addressed the assembled with a calm voice, after which Krasoljub replied:

Et cum spiritu you ,Your Eminence

After greeting, Krasoljub take a better look around of room. It was nice furnished office in which it prevailed furniture produced from wood that gleamed on sunlight light that came through stained glass on windows. In the middle of the room was dominated a big table, and beside the walls were massive chairs that seemed comfortable.
    * What a stylish room* - thought Krasoljub.

    ----

The old prelate moved forward, leaning on his cane, a bit tired due of his long journey. Now he hoped for nothing more than a nap at his Palazzo, but only after the ceremony. His other hope was to be able to sit on a chair to rest his old legs and hip, but Iaudas did not know what would happen to this gathering. He tilted the bust respectfully towards Brother Kalixtus by saying.

    Et cum Spiritu tuo, Frater.

Again, he coughed in his white handkerchief before wiping his face.

      ~ Asperge me ~

      Amen.

He observed all those present with his ice blue eyes and a short sacral silence arose in which not even the little birds from the branches could be heard which nested in the nearby olive grove. After a perpetuity he spoke. You are here today to take the oath and I am here as Paepositus Generalis, as Supreme of the Order to accept or refuse you in this Order. Here I do not judge your surface but your depth. Some of you have already reached the Red with the support of the Order, but there is more at stake. The Jesuits under my hand are more interested in the renewal of the fundamental doctrine. A conscientious catechesis is the only way to make our Mother Church strong against heresy and false prophets. The work of my beloved predecessor, the political agenda is largely complete and found its glorious completion in the appointment of the first Pope - a Jesuit. We stand together as a family and I do not expect obedience or loyalty - these are tickets for the cheap and less active orders. I demand submission from you. Submission to the law of the Holy Mother Church, submission to God and of course submission to the rules of the Order. Obedience is the oath you take as a cleric. Loyalty is earned through the strength and orientation this family will give you. With your oath you become part of this family and like every family member you have your place. The demands of the Jesuits are great - I forgive no missteps and punish all those who defile the reputation of the Order and the Church with immediate withdrawal of all support, which in Rome means the end of the career. But enough of the warnings - they are only spoken because I want you to consider everything very carefully. This step can influence your career immeasurably but it can ruin you too because other orders think we are enemies. Minorities in the Curia see our superiority as a problem and you will have to prove to them and convince them that our nature is only subject to the will of God and no malicious work of root will be tolerated in any corner of the Church.

If you can follow this, lay down your robes as far as the Albae.
Then it goes on. Kalixtus himself put on a stole, because this oath of allegiance came into contact with the ether and he opened a cupboard behind him where he brought out a golden vessel of consecrated Chrisam oil. He would need it if he accepted the oaths and received the blessing of the Praepositus General. Preventively he had prepared the order garments and the amulet of the Jesuits on a table at the side not far from the windows.

Angus listened the words of Kalixtus with great attention. The young Briton's nature and intellectual capacity have always had some issues with submission, especially when it comes to blindly following orders without questions or thinking of any kind. His independent mind stood in contrast with what submission implies. However, he believed in values such as friendship, brotherhood and loyalty, and thus his point of view was rather the one of working together as partners towards the accomplishment of common goals.

After Kalixtus delivered his speech, the moment of decision arrived. Angus knew what he wanted and intended to do long before crossing the doorstep of the office of the Praepositus Generalis. Hence the young Briton started taking off his breastplate, armored gauntlets and other pieces of his knightly equipment, then his elegant garments. His moves were neither too quick, neither too slow, but they were as gracious as those of a lion in his prime. He carefully laid down on a chair each piece of equipment and clothing. Besides, he was a tidy person who took care of all his belongings. And there he was, dressed in his alb, so without hesitation Angus stepped forward towards Kalixtus and stopped in front of the Praepositus Generalis, while maintaining a polite distance between them. He was ready for what was to follow.

    Amen dico tibi.

    À présent, Iaudas attendit.

That is why he left his red robe immediatly to put on his humble robe, snow-white dress. He directed his gaze towards Kalixtus.

    Amen dico tibi.

    Now, Iaudas waited.

Krasoljub listened carefully to the words Kalixus spoke to him and his brothers around him. Krasoljub was thinking of every word he heard. For him, spreading the doctrine of faith through friendship has always been important, so therefore with each word which Paepositus Generalis said, he mostly agreed.

After the sermon, Krasoljub surely went on dressing new clothes, he looked confident in that decision. He pulled down his leather gloves, mantil, and flax shirt, which he carefully put on one of the chairs. Krasoljub slowly put on himself a albu, and in new pure white clothes, he turned toward Kalixtus and calmly said:

    “I’m ready.”

Now you stand before me in the certainty that without all your achievements you are only yourselves, because here in the Order it does not matters who you are outside these walls. Here you are part of the Jesuit community and our main task is not to expand at any price. Kalixtus looked to Iaudas. But to unite the world under one catechesis and to reveal to it the message of Christo, the wisdom of Aristotle and the grace of God. I expect from each one of you devotion and submission to this maxim. Unrelenting hunger for knowledge and constant examination of whether we meet this requirement in its purity or whether we fail, because if so we are not worthy to be the elite of the Church to which our lives are dedicated.

Angus steps forward. Son of Brittany, heretical enemies, ignorance and power-hungry people, whether inside or outside the sanctuary, are breaking out on the coasts of your homeland, seeking success and are ready to destroy all what others have constructed. It is indispensable that Brittany needs our protective hands. France suffers, let Brittany breathe. Step forward and kneel down, take the oath and receive the blessing of the Praepositus Generalis to become part of this family and this mission.

Yes, Your Eminence, that is true. When the waves of darkness surround us, we must remain a true beacon of Faith, Justice and Wisdom against whose mighty walls these waves will break and yield before the Light. It is our duty to remain steadfast in the face of perils and conquer them.

Angus steps forward with an unshakeable determination and a fiery look in his eyes. It was both terrifying and fascinating to behold the Lion of Brittany, who then knelt and lifted his face towards his Sun. Angus had both Lion and Sun within him, ferocious and conquering, magnanimous and illuminating. And a special moment happened when the gazes of Angus and Kalixtus met and penetrated the depths of their beings, intertwining their souls, so that they would now be one, perhaps more then ever and joined together in a Sacred Mission.

Almighty God, Father of the Humanity, I, Angus de Montfort-Beaumont d'Autevielle, even unworthy of being in your presence, trusting in your infinite love for your children, with the only wish to serve you, in front of the Prophets and the Saints, I pronounce the vows of Obedience, to His Holiness the Pope and the hierarchy of our Order; To always look for the Knowledge and the Truth, as a way to understand your creation and your Will; To spread the Faith, no matter where, working not only for our perfection in the Order, but for the salvation of every soul; and I also promise to be humble and austere, rejecting any selfishness and greed.
