Partie VI : La Bibliothèque Apostolique Vaticane
La Bibliothèque Apostolique Vaticane, ou plus simplement Bibliothèque Vaticane ou Romaine, est l'Office responsable de la préservation de toutes les connaissances séculières, religieuses et culturelles à la disposition du Saint-Siège. Elle est confiée à l'administration de la Chancellerie Apostolique en collaboration avec toute autre Congrégation intéressée et le Sacré Collège des Cardinaux.
Généralités
Article 1 : La Bibliothèque Vaticane sert de bibliothèque publique pour le Saint-Siège et l'Église Universelle. Ses locaux sont situés au Palais du Belvédère, sur le côté du Palais Apostolique.
Article 2 : Elle a pour but de conserver les ouvrages et les manuscrits dogmatiques, doctrinaux et canoniques, les actes des Souverains Pontifes, du Sacré Collège des Cardinaux et des Congrégations romaines, et de les mettre à disposition de l’Eglise et des fidèles.
Article 3 : De par sa vocation universelle, et afin de permettre la consultation pour tous, la Bibliothèque Vaticane doit s’assurer de la traduction de tous les ouvrages dans toutes les langues parlées.
Administration
Article 4 : La Bibliothèque Vaticane est rattachée à la Chancellerie Apostolique qui en assume l'administration.
Article 5 : L’administration de la Bibliothèque est assurée par un Préfet nommé par l'Archichancelier du Saint-Siège.
Article 6 : Le Préfet de la Bibliothèque Vaticane a pour mission de gérer la conservation, le recollement, la mise à jour et le classement efficace des documents et leur mise à disposition pour consultation.
Article 7 : Le Préfet de la Bibliothèque Vaticane se tient à disposition de tous pour toute demande approfondie sur un sujet de recherche. Il doit donc faire preuve d’une connaissance étendue des collections de la Bibliothèque ainsi que de leur contenu.
Article 8 : Il est chargé d’assurer la bonne traduction de tous les documents en lien avec les traducteurs de la Villa San Loyats. Chaque entrée de document doit être accompagnée de ses traductions correspondantes.
Des collections et de leur gestion
Article 9 : La Bibliothèque Vaticane contient les collections suivantes, divisées par sujet:- Collectio Canonica, contenant les dispositions du droit canonique mises à jour et en vigueur;
- Collectio Dogmatica, contenant une copie du Livre des Vertus et tout texte ou document reconnu dans le cadre du Dogme Aristotélicien ou d'intérêt pour la mission religieuse de l'Église;
- Collectio Regestorum, contenant une copie de tous les documents administratifs publiés par le Saint-Siège et d'autres institutions de l'Église;
- Collectio Heraldica, contenant les armoiries du Saint-Siège, des Congrégations Romaines et des autres institutions de l'Église;
Article 10 : La gestion de chaque collection est assurée par un bibliothécaire nommé par le Préfet avec l'approbation de la Congrégation concernée.
Article 11 : La gestion de la collection canonique est assurée par un bibliothécaire nommé par le Préfet avec l'approbation de l’Archichancelier du Saint-Siège.
Article 12 : La gestion de la collection dogmatique et doctrinale est assurée est assurée par un bibliothécaire nommé par le Préfet avec l'approbation de la Congrégation du Saint-Office.
Article 13 : La gestion des registres est assurée est assurée par un bibliothécaire nommé par le Préfet avec l'approbation de l’Archichancelier du Saint-Siège.
Article 14 : La gestion de la collection héraldique est assurée directement par les Collèges Héraldiques Pontificaux.
Article 15 : Chaque bibliothécaire prend soin de sa propre collection et de sa mise à jour. Il lui incombe de le gérer en bon intelligence avec le Préfet et la Congrégation concernée.
Article 16 : En cas de besoin ou en l'absence de bibliothécaire, le Préfet peut prendre temporairement en charge la gestion d'une collection.
Article 17 : Les Archives secrètes, ou Archivum Secretum Apostolicum Vaticanum, sont les archives centrales du Gouvernement de l’Eglise. Elles concernent les minutes des débats au sein du Sacré Collège des Cardinaux et sont administrées directement par par ce dernier.
Article 18 : Un cardinal spécifique, appelé Cardinal-archiviste, peut être nommé par le Sacré Collège pour administrer les archives secrètes en son nom.
Accès & Consultation
Article 19 : Les collections de la Bibliothèque Vaticane sont libres d’accès et laissées en libre consultation.
Article 20 : Les archives secrètes sont privées et ne sont accessibles et consultables que par le Sacré Collège.
Article 21 : Toute demande de consultation des archives privée extérieure au Sacré-Collège se verra refusée. Toute communication de tout ou partie des archives secrètes est interdite et pourra faire l'objet de poursuite par les juridictions compétentes.

Part VI : The Vatican Apostolic Library
The Vatican Apostolic Library, or rather the Vatican or Roman Library, is the Office responsible for maintaining all secular, religious and cultural knowledge available to the Holy See. It is entrusted to the administration of the Apostolic Chancellery in collaboration with any other interested Congregations and the Holy College of Cardinals, the Curia.
General
Article 1 : The Vatican Library serves as a public library for the Holy See and the Universal and Roman-Aristotelian Church. The building is located in the Belvedere Palace, on the side of the Apostolic Palace.
Article 2 : Its purpose is to preserve the dogmatic doctrinal and canonical works and manuscripts, the acts of the Papal dignitaries, the Holy College of Cardinals and the Roman Congregations, and to make them available to the Church and to the faithful.
Article 3 : By virtue of its universal vocation and in order to be accessible to all, the Vatican Library must ensure the translation of all works into all spoken languages.
Administratie
Article 4 : The Vatican Library is attached to the Papal Chancellery, which is responsible for its management.
Article 5 : The Library is managed by a Prefect appointed by the Chancellor of the Holy See.
Article 6 : The Prefect of the Vatican Library is responsible for managing the conservation, correctness, updating and efficient archiving of documents and making them available for consultation.
Article 7 : The Prefect of the Vatican Library is at the disposal of anyone who wishes to make an in-depth request for a research topic. He must therefore have a broad knowledge of the library's collections and their contents.
Article 8 : The Prefect of the Library is responsible for the correct translation of all documents in collaboration with the translators of Villa San Loyats. Each document must be accompanied by the corresponding translation.
Collections and their management
Article 9 : The Vatican Library contains the following collections, classified by subject:- Collectio Canonica, containing the latest and current provisions of Canon Law;
- Collectio Dogmatica, containing a copy of the Book of Virtues and any text or document recognized within the framework of the Aristotelian Dogma or of interest for the religious mission of the Church;
- Collectio Regestorum, containing a copy of all administrative documents published by the Holy See and other institutions of the Church;
- Collectio Heraldica, containing the coats of arms of the Holy See, the Roman Congregations and other institutions of the Church;
Article 10 : The handling of each collection is assured by a librarian appointed by the Prefect with the approval of the Congregation concerned.
Article 11 : The handling of the canonical collection is assured by a librarian appointed by the Prefect with the approval of the Archchancellor of the Holy See.
Article 12 : The handling of the dogmatic and doctrinal collection is assured by a librarian appointed by the Prefect with the approval of the Congregation of the Holy Office.
Article 13 : The administration of the registers is ensured by a librarian appointed by the Prefect with the approval of the Archchancellor of the Holy See.
Article 14 : The handling of the heraldic collection is carried out directly by the Pontifical Heraldic Colleges.
Article 15 : Each librarian takes care of his own collection and its updating. It is incumbent upon him to manage it in good understanding with the Prefect and the Congregation concerned.
Article 16 : In case of need or in the absence of a librarian, the Prefect is authorized to temporarily take charge of the management of a collection.
Article 17 : The Secret Archives, or Archivum Secretum Apostolicum Vaticanum, are the central archives of the Government of the Church. They relate to the minutes of the debates within the Sacred College of Cardinals and are administered directly by the latter.
Article 18 : A specific Cardinal, called Cardinal-Archivist, may be appointed by the Sacred College to administer the Secret Archives on its behalf.
Access and consultation
Article 19 : The collections of the Vatican Library are freely accessible and left for free consultation.
Article 20 : The secret archives are private and are accessible and consultable only by the Sacred College.
Article 21 : Any request to consult the private archives outside the Sacred College will be refused. Any communication of all or part of the secret archives is forbidden and may be prosecuted by the competent jurisdictions.
