A letter arrived at the Holy Office, addressed to the Chancellor. The letter came from just a few doors away, and contained no particular secrets. Only a formality that Cardinal Kermabon had wished to comply with.

Bordeaux, 3rd January 1473
Dear Brother,
For a long time now I have devoted my life to a number of administrative tasks within our Church. This experience has been a valuable source of learning for me. Among the many lessons I have learned, one remains the most fundamental: no service within the Church has any real meaning without a deep commitment, both spiritual and intellectual.
I confess that I have taken on, and even asked for, too many responsibilities which have prevented me from giving myself fully to the work of the Spirit. Today I am free of most of these commitments. I am now simply the Archbishop of Bordeaux, with the strong support of the active and committed local clergy. I therefore feel free and available to propose my candidacy to the Holy Office.
This candidacy, however, is not simply the fruit of my new availability; it stems above all from a burning desire to serve the faith. To work with you and with clerics whom I know and acknowledge as brilliant theologians fills my heart with joy.
Should a post become available in the Office of the Saints, please accept, Brother, the expression of my humble candidacy.
May He watch over you.

While he was working in the Congregation of the Holy Office, Cardinal Sforza received a letter. He read it carefully, then took pen and paper and replied:

To the cardinal Adelene de Kermabon,
Eminent and dear brother,
We read Your letter with pleasure and We appreciate Your availability. Without a doubt, some indispensable offices of our Holy Aristotelian Church can be rather cold and difficult for Us who have chosen to dedicate our life to the Most High and to the Aristotelian community.
As You well know, the Congregation of the Holy Office works instead with the heart of our Faith, that is, the Sacred Dogma and what is most precious in the spiritual treasure of the Holy Aristotelian Church.
We welcome Your availability with all Our heart, We will bring Your candidacy to the High Council of the Congregation for examination and it will be Our concern to inform You of the outcome of the examination.
