La question relative à la requête de laïcisation formulée par Rodrigo Manzanarez a été soumise au Sacré Collège et demeure actuellement en délibération au sein du cercle des Cardinaux.
La décision quant à la réponse de l’autorité ecclésiastique, et sous quelle forme elle s’exprimera, reste pour l’heure indéterminée.
Nous vous prions de bien vouloir demeurer en disponibilité, au cas où les Cardinaux soulèveraient des interrogations touchant à ce sujet, et vous demandons de vous tenir prêt — le cas échéant — à participer aux prochains conciles ou conférences.

Acceptance and penance due to the Laicization of Rodrigo Manzanarez
We, the Cardinals of the holy Aristotelian, universal and Roman Church, united in our sacred College, proclaim the following under the light of the Saints and Prophets and by the grace of the Most High and His Holiness Sixtus IV.
In the understanding that the holiest oaths of the Holy Mother Church are those of ordination, any breach or denial of said oaths due to the renunciation of all offices within the Church constitutes a grave rupture with the holy sacraments, with dogma, and with Canon Law.
A resulting laicization frees the delinquent from the grace of ordination bestowed upon him and from the sacred oaths derived therefrom.
But this release does not relieve him of the ecclesiastical duty of penance!
The Sacred College, under the caring eyes of His Holiness Pope Sixtus IV, therefore decrees the laicization of Rodrigo Manzanarez in consequence of his personal declaration of will via Archbishop Melo - Primate of France, and imposes the following punishment and penance:
- The payment of 500 gold to his home diocese. Proof must be submitted to the Dean of the Sacred College, the Primate of the EAF, and the Apostolic Chamber.
- Exclusion from the sacrament of marriage for 1 year.
- Exclusion from the sacrament of ordination for 1 year.
- Exclusion from any ecclesiastical responsibility in the administrative sector of parishes and dioceses for 1 year.
- Exclusion from theological teaching for 1 year.
- Exclusion from liturgical assistance (lector, altar server) for 1 year.
- A comprehensive confession to a confessor of his choosing. The confessor must formally confirm the confession to the Dean of the Sacred College.
- A pilgrimage to the cloak of Saint Martin (Tours). Proof must be submitted to the Prefecture of Pilgrimage of the Congregation of the Dissemination of Faith (CDF).
Should these conditions not be fulfilled within one year, exclusion from the sacrament of marriage will be extended until the conditions are fulfilled.
Should these conditions not be fulfilled within one year, exclusion from the sacrament of ordination, as well as from liturgical, theological, and administrative duties, will be extended until the conditions are fulfilled.
Given in Rome, on the XX of October in the Year of Grace MCDLXXIII, the VIIth of the Pontificate of His Holiness Sixtus IV and the Vth of the Era of the Restoration of Faith
