Per Arnault, Federico era stato soltanto un collego: i due uomini non erano mai stato intimi oppure amici. Ma Federico era uno dei colleghi che Arnault ammirava soprattutto. L'intelligenza e la visione di quest'uomo erano sempre stato e sono ancora un modello par il cieco che era il cancelliere della congregazione nella quale Federico aveva lavorato alla fine della sua vita. Imparare la morte di quest'immenso lavoratore della Chiesa era stato difficile, e l'arcivescovo di Bourges aveva immediatamente chiesto per celebrare le funerali. Con molto difficoltà, il cieco aveva giunto i suoi colleghi per la cerimonia. Il credo recitato, Arnault recitava le parole liturgiche rituali:

La cerimonia entrava nel vivo. Il cardinal Degli Scalzi prese posto dietro al feretro, circondato da alti ceri e con davanti un cestino di vimini con dentro unicamente un medaglione aristotelico. Con voce forte e chiara iniziò il rito.

"Celebriamo il segno della luce.", disse il celebrante.

Silenziosamente, i chierichetti accendono i ceri che, man mano, diffondono una calda luce sulla bara.

"L'amicizia è la luce del mondo, è la fiamma che riscalda il nostro cuore.
Che rischiara ora la strada di Federico perché lo conduca subito al Regno di Dio!"

Un chierichetto gli porse una croce, che il cardinale prese. Poi proseguì:

"Celebriamo ora il segno della fede.

Federico, depositiamo questa croce aristotelica sulla tua bara.
Questa croce è il segno che collega Aristotele e Christos, che sia per te di salvezza e di vita eterna."

In un momento di silenzio, il cardinal Fenice si avvicinò alla bara portando il cesto dell'amicizia, dove di lì a poco sarebbero stati posti i doni dei presenti.
La cerimonia proseguiva.

"Ecco il segno dell'amicizia.
Federico, depositiamo questi doni sulla tua bara, segno della nostra amicizia, segno della nostra preghiera, segno del nostro cuore."

Quindi il cardinal Fenice prese la parola.





The ceremony was entering in the main core. Cardinal Degli Scalzi took place behind the coffin, that was surrounded by tall candles and by a wicker basket in front, with only an Aristotelian medallion inside. So he begun the ritual with clear voice.

"Let's celebrate the sign of light.", said the priest.

The altar boys silently lighted the candles that, little by little, emitted a warm light on the coffin.

"Friendship is the light of the world, is the flame that warms our heart.
That now lights up the way for Federico and leads him immediately to the Kingdom of God!"

An altar boy handed him a cross, which the cardinal took. Then he went on:

"Now, let's celebrate the sign of faith.

Federico, we deposit this Aristotelian cross on your coffin.
This cross is a sign that connects Aristotle and Christos: it is for your salvation and eternal life."

In a moment of silence, Cardinal Fenice got close to the coffin, carrying the basket of friendship, where the gifts of the presents would soon be placed .
The ceremony went on.

"Here's the sign of friendship.
Federico, we deposit these gifts on your coffin, a sign of our friendship, a sign of our prayer, a sign of our heart."

Then Cardinal Fenice spoke up.

Il Cardinal Fenice avanzò zoppicando fino a fermarsi davanti al feretro. Depose nella cesta una larga pagnotta fragrante e un rametto di abete. E mentre coloro che desideravano lasciare i doni sfilavano lentamente davanti alla bara e al cesto, ella recitò una preghiera per tutta la comunità.

Siamo chiamati ad essere pane,
pane lavorato dalle Tue mani, Signore,
pane che sfamerà i nostri fratelli.

Siamo chiamati ad essere pianta,
pianta che non perde le foglie,
poiché Tu ci nutrirai sempre.

Siamo chiamati ad essere Luce,
la luce del Tuo sorriso rivolto a noi tutti,
che siamo i Tuoi figli prediletti.

Siamo chiamati ad essere Pace,
con le nostre parole e azioni,

Cardinal Fenice limped to a stop in front of the coffin. She put in the basket a large fragrant loaf and a sprig of fir. And while those who wished to leave the gifts paraded slowly past the coffin and the basket, she said a prayer for the whole community.

bread that will feed our brothers.

plant that doesn't lose its leaves,
because You will always feed us.

Mentre la voce solenne di madre Fenice riempie il sacro luogo Tacuma si mette in fila per depositare il suo dono nel cesto.
Lascia cadere al suo interno 2 pani per la mensa dei poveri insieme ad un piccolo blasone intarsiato nel legno.
Lo stema di quella grande famiglia di cui Federico, seppur per breve tempo, fu il capocasato.

He drops inside 2 breads for soup kitchen along with a small coat of arms carved in the wood..
The coat of arms of that great family of which Federico, albeit briefly, was the leader.

Too much times he had seen the death of his colleagues and friends and every time they deserved all the honours they received.

"Celebriamo il segno della memoria.", proseguì il cardinale.

"Questa sepoltura ci ricorda molte cose.
La memoria di un amico aristotelico che ci ha appena lasciati. Di un uomo che aveva una storia, unica, con Dio. Che era circondato dall'amore di Dio. Che ha fatto o non fatto l'esperienza di questo amore.
Se oggi noi siamo numerosi in questa chiesa, attorno a Federico, è per prendere coscienza di questo legame d'amore che l'ha sempre collegato a Dio, che collega Dio a ciascuno di noi, in ogni istante.
La morte verrà per ciascuno di noi. Per gli uni presto, per gli altri più tardi. Per alcuni in gioventù, per altri in vecchiaia. Il Signore ci avverte: "Siate pronti, siate sempre pronti poiché non sapete né il giorno né l'ora.".
Aristotele ci ha guidati e Christos ci invita a prendere esempio da lui, a trovare la gioia del vivere per gli altri, amare come loro ci hanno amato.
La nostra presenza qui è preghiera. Invochiamo Aristotele affinché misuri i peccati del nostro fratello e Christos poiché interceda presso l'Altissimo, di modo che lo riceva nel suo Paradiso.
Lasciamo ora parlare coloro che l'hanno conosciuto. "

Quindi si sedette mentre ordinatamente i chierici prendevano la parola.





"Let's celebrate the sign of memory.", the cardinal continued.

"This burial reminds us many things.
The memory of an Aristotelian friend who has just left us. A man who had a history, unique, with God. Who was surrounded by the love of God. Who had experienced this love or hadn't.
If today we are many in this church, around Federico, it's to become aware of this bond of love that has always connected him to God, that connects God to each of us, in every moment.
Death will come for each of us. For some soon, for others later. For some in youth, for others in old age. The Lord warns us: "Be prepared, be always ready, because you know neither the day nor the hour.".
Aristotle guided us and Christos invites us to take a leaf from him, to find the joy of living for others, loving as they have loved us.
Our presence here is prayer. We invoke Aristotle to measure the sins of our brother and Christos because intercede before the Most High, so that He receives him in his Paradise.
