Kathleen was in Rome again. She used to spend a lot of time here lately. And truth to be told, she wasn't sad about this at all. The autumn sun was still strong in Rome while at home in Mayence the leaves where already starting to fall. Especially today was a lovely day, she even saw a small flight of butterflies coming in her direction. To enjoy some more of the gentle warmth of Rome's sun she pulled back the hood of her red traveling gown and smiled.

Visiting the Holy Inquisition wasn't something people usually looked forward to but Kathleen didn't exactly have 'bussiness' with the Inquisition so she took the steps toward the office with a light heart. She did notice however that the butterflies were following her kind of obsessively and started circling erratically above her head or even nested themselves in her hair when she slowed down. 'Perhaps it was an inopportune time to try out this honey treatment this morning. Though the colour is brighter just as the woman promised' she mused silently.

She was received in a gentle fashion and stated her rank, status and inquiry as demanded by the welcoming clerk. 'Yes' she wanted to meet with the Chancelor in person and 'No' she hadn't been summoned and 'Yes' she was willing to wait 'some time between an hour and a couple of weeks'. The clerk conveniently ignored the corona of butterflies swirling around her during the exchange. 'He's probably seen much already' Kathleen pondered.

She decided to wait on a bench in the garden hoping in vain that the butterflies would lose interest eventually and wander off. As the sun continued to warm her face she wondered if she had been too bold coming here like this. But then again she felt that her recent elevation to bishop gave reason to hope that the wait would be significantly less than a couple of weeks. Even though she understood well that His Eminence Arnault d'Azayes was burdened with numerous responsibilities.

Msgr. Napoleon saw a madam sitting on a bench outside the Holy Inquisition and told

Madame. pleasure to see you here ... if I'm not mistaken you are the prefect of Villa St. Loyats...I'm there an Italian-speaking translator.

I am His Excellency Monsignor Napoleon Barberini, Bishop of Sora and Missus Inquisitionis. I image that You are probably waiting to be able to be received by the clerk d'Azayes ... but if I can do something for you, tell me as well ...

She indeed recognized Napoleone just as he seemed to recognize her from the short meeting in the Villa. Which in turn reminded her that it was about time to set the plans in motion, she had been working on.

"Buongiorno Monsignore Barberini, I remember you well. Please, go ahead and take a seat."

She moved a bit aside on the bench so he could sit beside her without a breach of etiquette for being just too intimately near. As a pleasant side-effect, the butterflies seemed to be startled and hurried off - at least for the moment.

After he had taken seat or declined, Kathleen continued: "I hope, everything is fine in the Cubicula and that you enjoyed the voyage to Baden with the Company of Aristotle. I used to live in Baden myself about two years ago.

As far as my own appointment here is concerned, I did a good part of the translation of the reformed Book 4 in the codex iure canonicum for the german-speaking clergy. As it is, you cannot convert the law into another language without getting your head around it, first. That's why I gave it some thought and wanted to share and exchange some ideas."

She paused a moment and noticed that the butterflies had just been lining up beside a window presumably just waiting to come back for her. She sighed slightly before adding:

"I also hope to adress the topic of education for the Inquisition. Some clerics are waiting for a chance to take up a course at a seminar. I have a feeling that perhaps I could accelerate things. For if the bottleneck is the language barrier, that's one I am confident I could break up conveniently.

I'd also take on the responsibility of teaching myself if that would help. Of course not just for the German clergy but anyone who would need lessons in English or German."

Msgr. Napoleon took his place next to Mademoiselle, shifting with his hand some butterflies...Then, listened carefully and finally said:

First of all to welcome us. Thank you for mentioning my commitment in the villa and in baden with the company of aristotele. Because the subject is the teaching I have to tell you that I'm part of the prefecture of teaching and Cardinal. On Azayes is the one who seems more intent on this direction of reform ...
I think he is the one who can give you more indications in this and will probably be happy about your contribution to this project ...

then, he did not want to leave alone the madam, he tried to locate someone in the horizon and nearby that could be reach the cardinal Chancellor and communicate the arrival of this lady.

She kept smiling and nodded to his words. She liked how Napoleone was always friendly and courteous.

"I thought so, too. Your desire to assist me is well received no less. As you mention the Prefecture of Teaching, please give my thanks to the prefect. I heard that the prefecture was very helpful in rebuilding the german-speaking seminar."

Then she looked at him again more closely and got the feeling that he was a bit torn about leaving so she felt it was good to give him some encouragement: "Don't allow me to keep you off your duties, Monsignore Barberini. I will enjoy this beautiful autumn day, breathing the faint scent of the departing summer and contemplate on a Logion or two while waiting. I will be fine."

Msgr. Napoleon listened the madam and answers
I am pleased to meet you and I hope to be a help in this question ...
I hope you will meet a cardinal...
We see us soon ...

Ich wünsche ihnen alles Gute ...

Then he walked away saying goodbye and seeing butterflies rest in the place where he sat

Kathleen was happy to see him go. Not that she didn't enjoy Nopoloene's company. He was always friendly and helpful.

But it had been her decision to come here like this and she would have hated to burden him with her troubles. In contrast, waiting here was easier for her if she didn't have to feel guilty for tying someone down who just wanted to do her a favour.

As the butterflies, who had become aware that the danger was gone, returned to her and nested themselves in her hair again, she first let out a little sigh. But then she accepted what the most high seemed to see fit for her and hummed a little tune as she waited some more.

It had gotten cold and dark. The butterflies left her and saught refugee somewhere else, Kathleen didn't know where.

Since she didn't want to spend the night in the garden, beautiful as it was, she turned to leave the premises of the Holy Inquisition.

She'd come back another day. Probably.

The Vice-Chancellor was informed just now that a lady was waiting...
He was really mortified and he joined her soon as he could.

Good morning madam. I am very sorry for the wait.
The Chancellor Azayes can not receive at this time, but you can tell me without fear.
I am the vice-chancellor of the Holy Inquisition...
