Mirina listened with great respect to the heartfelt and beautiful words spoken by the Cardinal.
How could she not recognize the shepherd who faithfully guided his flock, if she was one of his sheep.
Mirina closed her eyes, thanked God for those words in silence and began to pray the Creed.
I believe in God, Most High Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and Earth,
of Hell and Paradise,
Judge of our hearts until the hour of death.
And in Aristotle, the prophet,
The son of Nicomachus and Phaestis,
Sent to teach wisdom
And the divine laws of the Universe to men gone astray.
I also believe in Christos,
Son of Mary and Joseph.
Who dedicated His life to show us the way to Paradise.
Thus, after suffering under Ponce the Procurator,
He died a martyr's death to save us.
He joined the Sun where Aristotle waited at the right hand of the Father.
I believe in Divine Action;
In the Holy Roman Aristotelian Church;
In the communion of Saints;
In the remission of sins;
In Eternal Life.

-----In this day of sadness, the homily said by the cardinal had made quite an effect on Laodin, who saw the similarities between Blancastre and the chapter from the Book of the End of Time. A man of great heart, filled with gentleness, but also affirming the importance to stay true to God... Now he was in the idyllic landscapes, forever happy, and that should be enough to comfort them in their grief. The speech had been moving, transcribing Kalixtus' personal emotions and yet as professional as it had to be. In a soft voice, Laodin recited the Creed, soon to be followed by the music from the choir:
------ I believe in God, the Most High Almighty, creator of the Sky and the Earth, Hell and Paradise, judge of our heart until the hour of death. And in Aristotle, the prophet, the son of Nicomachus and Phaestis, sent to teach wisdom and the divine laws of the Universe to straying men. Now it was time for the symbols, and he had the wicker baskets distributed among those present so they could place tokens of friendship in the baskets, which would then accompany Blancastre on his journey.
"Brothers and sisters, we are gathered here in friendship, yet as a family in mourning. Let us remember that the LORD knows all the good in Blancastre’s life, and let us ask the LORD to grant Blancastre a warm welcome."
Kalixtus took a candle and lit it from the eternal flame of the yearly candle, which burned in his basilica and was nearing its end as the liturgical year was drawing to a close.
He placed the candle by the sarcophagus and spoke solemnly:
"Friendship is the light of the world; it is the flame that warms our hearts. It now illuminates the path for Blancastre and leads him into the Kingdom of God."
Since the sarcophagus was already sealed, the cardinal placed a cross on top of it. The cross was intricately carved, a visible testament to the steadfast and demanding faith of Bishop Blancastre.
As he placed the cross on the sarcophagus, he accompanied the gesture with the words:
"Blancastre, we place this Aristotelian cross upon your coffin. This cross symbolizes the union of Aristotle and Christos; may it be for you a sign of salvation and eternal life."
These, then, were the symbols of light and faith. Next would come the symbol of friendship, but he waited a moment longer until everyone had placed something in the basket.
Meanwhile, the melody of Etenim sederunt principes could be heard. _________________

It seemed as though few cared to place something in the basket of friendship. The Cardinal sighed as the basket returned to him, and he placed a white feather in it, as he always did. A final greeting from a world that Blancastre and Kalixtus had once walked together.
He placed the basket aside the sarcophagus and said:
“Blancastre, we place these gifts to your tomb as a sign of our friendship, a sign of our prayers, a sign of our hearts.”
He then performed the sign of remembrance:
“A funeral makes several things clear to us:
The memory of an Aristotelian friend who has just left us. A person who shared a unique story with God. Who was surrounded by God’s love and made use of that love.
We are here now, gathered in this church, to become aware of the bond of love that always connected Blancastre with God and that connects each one of us at all times with Him.
Death awaits us all—some sooner, others later, some in their youth, others in old age. The Lord warns us: *‘Be ready, always ready, for you know neither the day nor the hour.’* Aristotle taught us this, and Christos invited us to follow his example: to find joy in living for others and to love as they loved us.
Our presence here is a prayer. We call upon Aristotle, who measures Blancastre’s sins, and we call upon Christos, who intercedes for him before the LORD, so that he may partake in His Paradise.”
“Whoever feels the desire may now speak.”
But likely no one would. And so, he prayed in silence, listening to the choir’s melodies that would bridge the silence, a silence that inevitably settled in these moments when no one dared to speak.
It was strange that such a rich life, filled with so many joys and friendships, never carried all the way to the final step. That people were so afraid of the end that they could not even find words in this hour. How peculiar these times were. _________________

Mirina_ witnessed the whole mass with great respect, it was the first time she was present at a funeral although she had studied well how funerals were carried out.
This did not diminish the sorrow that dwelled in her heart.
When the moment of the basket arrived, she was so focused on the memories that she did not notice it.
When she heard the Cardinal she came out of her abstraction, especially when Kalixtus gave room for them to say a few words in farewell.
Mirina_ raised her hand asking for the floor, stood up, and ignoring whether she should walk to the front or from there, she chose to speak from her place.
- Today, in this difficult and solemn moment, I want to say goodbye to the one who was for me a great spiritual guide.
Blancastre was much more than a teacher when I entered the seminary.
He was a gentleman, a brother, a confessor, he was the person who believed in me even when I myself doubted, he perceived something in me before I saw it. Thanks to his words, but even more to his example of life, I discovered the true love of God.
Today I come to say goodbye to the one I consider an example of virtue.
Farewell Blancastre, until we meet again in the Solar Paradise.
Having said this, Mirina sat down again.but not before placing in the basket what she had prepared, a handful of shields and a bouquet of flowers. _________________

-----Of course, Laodin had put something in the basket too; he was just so discreet nobody would really notice, the sheet coming from his fingers like a little white cascade. It was Blancastre's dissertation, written at the end of his Maxima Pastoral, that Laodin had preciously conserved to this day. Little did he know then how it would come again to the surface; in his mind, it would eventually join a new clerical library with some other works, to inspire people in a new way. It wasn't excluded, though; before arriving to the basilica, he had quickly copied the text on a leaf of the finest parchment, believing this work had to both accompany Blancastre in his travel and survive for the future. So, the original would be buried deep in the ground, but its content, preserved in order to pursue the tribute in life.

Mémoire de Blancastre Montemayor di Leostilla
Prologue
-----Then came the sign of remembrance, said by Kalixtus. Even if God worked in mysterious ways, Laodin knew Blancastre had already come to his Divine Judgment, and got access to the Solar Paradise, from where he was looking at them. It could not have been another way, and Laodin refused to consider the other possibility which would have overshadowed everything good that came thanks to him. Nevertheless, he prayed with everyone else in the basilica, knowing it was with great intentions.
-----The ultimate tribute to Blancastre would be testimonies from his friends, beginning with Mirina. Laodin listened to her, happy to learn everything he had thought about him was right: he had been a nice man, passionate about God, and looked into others to make them produce their best. So, despite the time that had passed since their last meeting, he had stayed true to himself, worthy of his father and a great teacher in the university of Rome. Mirina had been greatly blessed by his care; and here she was thanking him in the best way, in the most fatidic moment of his funerals. After she returned to her place, Laodin raised his hand too, and slowly approached the sarcophagus:
------ Father Blancastre... Blancastre... Today, I would not like to commemorate who you were but who you truly are, in our minds, forever. Surely, your body may have lost the fight; but even though we shall not see you again, your memory will not dissipate as long as your friends will not forget you. It is quite fascinating to see how death is finally detached from its material aspect, and how we are sad not really for yourself, but for us, who are now alone without your presence alongside us. How, indeed, could we cry about your fate right now, blessed for eternity in the Solar Paradise? The only pain that is relied to you is that of life, and not death. So have we to remember this sentence from the great Oane: « Then, your tears are not of sadness but of joy, because the Most High gives to me the most beautiful of gifts. » It is for us we weep, not for you, because we know you were - you are - a man of virtue and principle.
-----» A waste: this is how we could qualify your departure, since you could have made so much more if you had stayed with us. However, does it affect the quality of your life, the quality of the message you delivered to us? I think not. Many of past men and women suffered a short life, without being far less memorable than the oldest of our kind. It all depends, in the end, of what you make from the beginning, and, Blancastre, you certainly made a lot for the survival of our Chuch. Should we talk, then, about your office of archbishop of Chambéry, your services as a teacher in the university of Rome, your work for the Office of Chapels or even the missel of prayers you created? In fact, you worked for our Church for a few years, but these years were full of commitment, honoring your dedication as it honored those who beneffited from your efforts. Personally, I watched all of this from afar, happy to see one of my students have such a productive career. Was it too short? Yes, maybe. Was it too short for us? Yes... Definitely.
-----» I remember when you made your first steps in the Saint-Benoît seminary, and when I guided you to your classroom to see how determined you were. Your father was Angelo de Montemayor, and you wanted to follow his legacy as proudly as possible; your other inspirational figures were Father Bardieu, Mother Eloin and Saint Arnvald, who you met in your childhood. Although you did not have the time to become a cardinal like your father, I have no doubt you would have been with patience. You also were a novice in the Cistercian Order, under the supervision of Father Roupil, and I found the words you redacted when arriving again to Saint-Benoît: « I wish to follow in their footsteps and become a cistercian in my turn; because it is my destiny, since I was born I have been waiting for this day. » Your entire life was turned towards your mission, a mission you could have prolonged for decades whether destiny had not been so cruel. We just have to be happy for what you did, not focusing too much on what you had no time to do. Regretting the inevitable is going nowhere.
-----» You were full of life and you still are, beyond this house of wood your body now lives in. You live in everyone of us, everyone who were directly touched by your action. Blancastre Montemayor di Leostilla, you live, in our memory and in the Heaven where you certainly are. So we shall live not without you, but with you, in a manner we had not expected so early. Rest in peace, and may peace be with us... Rest in peace, Blancastre, my friend.
-----He inclined his head as a last token of homage, then returned to the bench, controlling the emotions that came to him. The last journey was now waiting, at least for Blancastre's body. _________________

There it was again—the moment when the Church could still surprise him. Today was a day when people spoke rather than remained silent. Nothing could make Kalixtus happier than the fact that people would remember Blancastre, that they had known him, seen him, and valued him as much as he did. He thanked everyone who had spoken with a blessing cross and a slight bow, and then he himself would find a few personal words. His hand rested on the sarcophagus that would house the bishop and friend for all eternity.
Blancastre was an extraordinary man. A man who could stir hearts, who could speak with the tongue of a warrior or an angel. Precise analysis and incisive words were part of his world.
Many condemned him for this. Many hated him for his directness, for his disregard of titles, positions, and hierarchy. I admired him for his courage and his ability to enter conflicts and emerge from them again.
Blancastre had many friends, most of them false, political friends who sought their own benefit in him. They are not here today—because they are never there when it truly matters, because they discard people like refuse.
Blancastre also made mistakes toward me, leveled accusations, and forfeited my friendship. But he sought a way back. He found a path to catharsis, and I granted him grace and embraced him with Aristotelian friendship. I renewed my trust in him and gave him work, function, and position within the Holy Mother Church.
Many condemned me for giving to such a man what this Church, what this faith stands for—a friendship and a new perspective.
Like him, I will always be a bulwark, defending the marginalized, the weak, the seekers, and the suffering. I will welcome them into my home and protect them with all the power entrusted to me.
Blancastre’s fight may have ended, but he stood for a Church of defense—a Church that uses its power to serve the weak and preserve the love that God has bestowed upon us.
His passion will be missed in this Church, and I will miss him—not only as my private secretary, my prefect, my bishop, and my friend. He will be missed as a person. The only comfort we have left is the certainty that he becomes one of the rays of our beloved Sun as he enters the Solar Paradise. Whenever we feel the sun on our skin, we will feel the warmth and joy for life that he embodied and that he passed on to us.
For this, I am grateful. _________________

Baptism of Robocop.cadet
AToday, surrounded by rising clouds of precious incense, the cardinal listened to the voices of a new group of mystics who have enriched this almighty house of God with art and talent for his pleasure, thus raising the presence of God.
Kalixtus, dressed in his liturgical vestments, was seated on the throne behind the altar. He listened to the music and awaited the arrival of Robocop.cadet, his godmother, and the guests.
He was truly impressive; an aura of otherworldly power constantly surrounded the cardinal. Acolytes brought the water for the baptismal font, placed in front of the altar, a work of art in marble and gold. Candles were lit. The smell of incense and flowers, mixed with the wax of candles, filled the cardinal's great church.
Everything was ready.

He had no idea about the course of the ceremony.

"Greetings, Your Excellency," he said softly, his voice steady despite the butterflies in his stomach. |

Hearing of a baptism of someone from Ireland brings Cinead to enter the Basilica San Giovanni and witness this sacrament. It is rare these days that someone from Ireland is baptised into our Church. And being Scottish himself Cinead sees it as a honor to be present here at this time. Entering the Basillica he walks towards the front and sits down on one of the pews. He nods to His Eminence who seems to be ready for the ceremony and hopes that afterwards he will have time to get to know this new faithful. _________________

Sacraments had not been celebrated for Irish faithfuls for a long time. Cardinal Sforza had at heart the Emerald Isle that he had personally visited during his mission in the British Isles.
Invited by Cardinal Kalixstus he reached the Basilica of San Giovanni dei Martiri and took a seat in the chair that had been prepared for him to attend the sacred rite. Upon entering he greeted those present with a nod and having reached his place he gathered in prayer awaiting the beginning of the liturgy. _________________

If her brother called her, it was not a question of whether she would come, but when. And if he called from Rome, she would leave her villa in Fusignano to make her way to the beating heart of the Aristotelian world—the Eternal City of Rome.
Of course, she would take the opportunity to do some shopping in this mercantile metropolis, to inspect goods from Spain and Portugal while she was here. Naturally, Rome also housed the most sophisticated tailors and jewellers in the entire Mediterranean region.
In short, she would not only follow the call of Kalixtus here, but also pursue her own private interests. She was, after all, also curious about the young man she would be standing beside as his godmother. The fact that Kalixtus had asked her for this role was extraordinary—it had to mean that this was a particularly intriguing person or a man of outstanding significance.
She stepped into the basilica, and with each stride, her black stilettos shattered the sacred silence of the church, echoing through its grand halls as she moved along the central axis toward the altar. Black was also the colour of her form-fitting dress, which reached just below her knees. The brocade fabric came from the weavers of Venice and was of the highest value. Resting against her ample décolletage was a sapphire, strung on a necklace of white pearls. White pearls were also woven into her blonde hair, styled into an intricate and flawlessly arranged coiffure—one that unmistakably suited her royal stature. She was the matriarch of one of the most powerful houses on the continent, and it was evident at a single glance.
Draped over her shoulders was a floor-length arctic fox fur, warding off the chill of winter. Everything about her radiated authority and unyielding strength—an inherent trait of all those who bore the name of the White Lions.
The scent of her favourite flowers—lilies of the valley—added a touch of softness to her otherwise dominant presence, though there was no escaping the fact that all eyes were inevitably and irrevocably drawn to her.
Before the altar, she sank into reverence before the Almighty and crossed herself before ascending the steps to her brother. Kneeling before him, she kissed the cardinal's ring.
With his blessing, the mighty matriarch rose and greeted the guests according to their rank—Cardinal Francesco Maria with a curtsy and a kiss upon his ring, and the Scottish bishop with an equally graceful gesture of respect—before moving with the elegance of a predator toward her godchild.
For the first time, her melodic voice rang out—a voice accustomed to giving orders, one that was not only beautiful but had also been raised in battle, wielding the sword for the faith in wars fought both in the East and in France, her homeland.
"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Domina Filomena Augusta-Josephine de Montfort-Beaumont d'Autevielle. Sister of Cardinal Kalixtus and Matriarch of the White Lions and - as fate showing us - your Godmother. " She kissed him once on each cheek, thus bestowing an honour upon him, for she only greeted those in this way whom she granted closeness and protection. As his godmother, this was now part of her duty. She took this role seriously, and so she led him to the front row, where she seated herself beside him, offering him one of her reassuring, confident smiles.
"Everything will be well. This is your moment. The Almighty watches over you."
Her words were meant to encourage, and her azure-blue eyes now turned toward Kalixtus. _________________

He fidgeted and looked at the cardinal.
Robocop.cadet bowed his head respectfully to the cardinal, then looked around to see the guests. He recognised a few cardinals he had heard speak before. Nodding to them in greeting, he hoped they would notice his acknowledgement and respect.
He then saw his godmother approaching with impressive elegance. Robocop.cadet couldn't help but be amazed by her presence. She gave him a reassuring smile that eased his stress a bit.
"Thank you for your encouragement, godmother," he replied sincerely. "Your presence here means a lot to me. You are so kind and caring. I am truly happy to have you by my side for this important moment."
He hugged his godmother, feeling a comfort and security he had never felt before. Robocop.cadet took a deep breath and prepared himself for the rest of the ceremony, feeling more confident and supported.
I am truly lucky to have her as my godmother. With her by my side, I know everything will be alright. |

He hugged his godmother, feeling a comfort and security he had never felt before. Robocop.cadet took a deep breath and prepared himself for the rest of the ceremony, feeling more confident and supported.
"Godmother, I apologise for my earlier oversight. The excitement and nerves got the best of me," he said, taking a step back and looking at her with gratitude. "Allow me to properly introduce myself. My name is Robocop.cadet. I am from Ireland, and I am deeply honoured to have you here with me today. Please forgive my moment of forgetfulness; it is a testament to how much your presence has meant to me, that I momentarily lost my manners."
He felt a renewed sense of confidence and gratitude as he stood beside his godmother, ready to face the rest of the ceremony. The warmth of her presence was a beacon of reassurance, guiding him through this significant moment.
Robocop.cadet then turned to the cardinals present and offered them a respectful smile. "Thank you all for being here for this important moment in my life. Your support and presence are a great source of strength for me."
I am truly fortunate to have so many kind and respected people with me on this special day. With all these encouragements, I know everything will be alright. |
