Elena received a dispatch from Rome. From the Sacra Rota.

After years of waiting and false hopes, she had come to the conclusion that her marriage had come to an end. Her husband had disappeared and would never return; she was certain of it.

She entered the hall and, after paying her respects to those present, took her seat where the attendants had indicated.

Aerwan walks into the room, greeting everyone, and adds,

Having all taken the floor.

Honourable judges, we are gathered in this courtroom today to discuss the annulment of the marriage between Ser Didakus Mehrak and Lady Elena Pitti de' Medici.

The request for annulment was received by our offices from the bride on 11 March 1474, in which she sought the annulment of the marriage contracted on 31 May 1470 and solemnised by her mother, Sciabola. The request was submitted on the grounds that the husband had abandoned the marital home for a period exceeding three months.

The messenger attempted to deliver the letter to the husband, but from the outset he had little success. He spoke to acquaintances and to the monks, but there is no trace of him anywhere. According to some people he spoke to, he has not been seen since July 1471.

No children were born of the marriage.

Onorevoli giudici oggi siamo in questa aula per discutere dello scioglimento tra Ser Didakus Mehrak e Dama Elena Pitti de' Medici.

La richiesta di scioglimento è pervenuta presso i nostri uffici dalla sposa in data 11 marzo 1474 con la quale richiedeva lo scioglimento del matrimonio contratto in data 31 Maggio 1470 celebrato da sua Madre Sciabola. La richiesta è stata presentata per l'abbondono del tetto coniugale da parte dello sposo per un periodo superiore ai 3 mesi.

Il messo ha provato a consegnare la missiva allo sposo, ma già dall'inizio non ha avuto molta fortuna. Ha parlato con conoscenti e con i monaci, ma non risulta da nessuna parte. Secondo alcune persone con cui ha parlato non si vede più da luglio 1471.

Dal matrimonio non è nato nessun figlio.

Vostri Onori, vi è poco da aggiungere.

Ho atteso il ritorno di mio Marito per ben tre lunghi anni. Oltre le speranze di poterlo rivedere. In cuor mio sento che non tornerà più. Ho provato per lui un amore fortissimo, ma ormai sono una Vedova e non posso continuare a vivere con lo spettro di un morto. Onorerò il suo ricordo per i bellissimi momenti passati insieme. Ma non vi è più null'altro.

Non ho altro da aggiungere se non attendere il vostro giudizio.
