After weeks of being a party conclave, the Italian Cardinal finally reached Rome.
The arrival of the new cardinal was expected in the Curia, but his arrival was not as if we all imagined.
On its own without any stock with a simple friar's frock.
He carried with him a bag with clothes Cardinal purpura.
He was very emotional and heartfelt, it was the first time I came to Rome and not as a simple pilgrim but as a Cardinal.
He never would have imagined what had happened.
He was appointed Bishop of Ferrara in a rapid and very little time after Cardinal. He had never wanted to have so many honors and never asked for favors or prizes.
He lived alone in a hermitage in the hills above the city of Ferrara, in solitude and in direct contact with nature and the pray.
Being in Rome today, but it had scared him continual hope in the Lord.
He had accepted the post of bishop and cardinal then only by God's will and for no other. _________________ SS Innocenzo VIII

Rome was great, great! Squares on every side, roads that intersected on every side, cars traveling at high speed with the crops of the fields.
All this frightened James, was not used to this worldliness. He felt like Friar lost, so He tried to seek help from a passer, but everyone seemed to ignore him ... _________________ SS Innocenzo VIII

Guy was waiting in Rome for some weeks now. He was one of the few non-clerics who didn't come because of the Pope's death.
The conclave was announced for the 11th, and he had nothing best to do than waiting for the cardinals to get out of there with a new Pontiff, if God helps. He had decided to take some good time, visiting what Rome had to offer: huge and beautiful buildings, impressive ruins, excellent society and good food.
The summer heat was hitting Rome. With time, the young nobleman had switched clothes from the heavy Flemish style for the light Italian one. The crowd of pilgrims had invaded Rome, worrying for the Church's future, and stressing that impression of heat.
On the Campo Fiori, while he was going to a lunch to Monsignore Castello Palace, he crossed the path of a begging monk who hadn't any success with passing Romans. The scene made him smile, not by mockery but because he was remembering himself when he arrived here. It had taken him some time to get the ear and the help from a local. In some way, he begun to understand them, constantly invaded by strangers and begging pilgrims who weren't even there for trade, just for pray. Some could say it brought a lot of money, and it was true, but only few Romans were taken profit from that "tourism".
Pushed by his great respect for clerics of any rank, he went to the Friar.
Brother, you seem lost. Can I help you by any way? _________________

Savelli meet saw a young man, who asked him if he could help. The monk replied:
"Dear son, I would like to know which way I have to go to reach the Basilica of St. Titus. It's the first time that I come to Rome" _________________ SS Innocenzo VIII

At the same time, in another suburb of Rome ...
Mother Hildegarde Frieda, a middle aged woman, came to Rome for the first time in her life. A very small entourage escorted her.
She was archbishop of Alèmanie since many years, but her creation as cardinal elector had surprised not only her, but also her whole archdiocese, she guessed. She wondered once again, if her influential brother had taken his hand in, but he always smiled and said nothing, if she asked him.
She was a bit indignant that they had forced her out of her peaceful archdiocese, where all businesses were running well, to came here to Rome, for the conclave. She was a woman of deeds, not of great words or politics.
So she mumbled to herself while walking the streets of Rome. Asking here and there passersby, she finally came near to the Basilica of St. Titus. |

Guy smiled to the friar obligantly. The use of "my dear son" indicated he was ordained priest, not only a monk. As protocolar as he was, the young Flemish took this detail in consideration, still ignoring he was speaking to a cardinal of the Holy Church.
Father, I fear you are on the wrong side of the Tevere river.
He begun to explain the way, but he soon renounced, the City of Titus was such a daedalus. In the first place he had been tempted to say: "follow the flow of pilgrims." But he wasn't born Roman and, then, had some remains of pity for newcomers. So, very different words left his mouth.
Let me you get there Father. I have nothing better to do, anyway.
That was a petty lie, but he was sure the thomist prefect would forgive his delay. _________________
