Le porte dell’aula del Tribunale si aprirono con un lieve cigolio, lasciando filtrare una luce tenue sul pavimento di pietra. Viola fece il suo ingresso con passo misurato, lo sguardo composto e attento, come si conviene in un luogo tanto solenne.
Si fermò per un istante appena oltre la soglia, chinando lievemente il capo in segno di rispetto verso i membri del Tribunale già presenti.
Senza dire nulla, si mosse verso il posto a lei destinato. Sistemò con cura le pieghe dell’abito prima di sedersi, mantenendo una postura composta.
Le mani si intrecciarono in grembo, lo sguardo rivolto in avanti. Rimase così, in silenzio, in attesa che l’udienza avesse inizio, immersa in quell’atmosfera sospesa che precede ogni decisione importante.

The doors of the Tribunal chamber opened with a soft creak, allowing a faint light to fall across the stone floor. Viola entered with measured steps, her expression composed and attentive, as befitted such a solemn place.
She paused for a brief moment just beyond the threshold, inclining her head slightly in a gesture of respect towards the members of the Tribunal already present.
Without saying a word, she moved towards her designated seat. She carefully adjusted the folds of her dress before sitting down, maintaining a composed posture.
Her hands folded neatly in her lap, her gaze directed forward. She remained there in silence, waiting for the hearing to begin, immersed in that suspended atmosphere that precedes every important decision.

Les portes de la salle du Tribunal s’ouvrirent avec un léger grincement, laissant filtrer une lumière douce sur le sol de pierre. Viola fit son entrée d’un pas mesuré, le regard posé et attentif, comme il convient en un lieu si solennel.
Elle s’arrêta un instant juste après le seuil, inclinant légèrement la tête en signe de respect envers les membres du Tribunal déjà présents.
Sans dire un mot, elle se dirigea vers la place qui lui était destinée. Elle ajusta soigneusement les plis de sa robe avant de s’asseoir, conservant une posture composée.
Les mains jointes sur ses genoux, le regard tourné vers l’avant, elle demeura ainsi, en silence, dans l’attente de l’ouverture de l’audience, plongée dans cette atmosphère suspendue qui précède toute décision importante.

"Io, Viola Ginevra Dei Lante, qui comparsa innanzi a questa venerabile corte, dichiaro con animo fermo e coscienza limpida la mia volontà di proseguire nella causa di scioglimento del vincolo matrimoniale. Il mio consorte è scomparso dalla mia dimora da oltre tre mesi, senza che alcuna notizia di lui mi sia giunta, né per messo né per lettera. Ignoro se sia vivo o morto, e in tale incertezza mi rimetto alla sapienza e alla misericordia di questo tribunale, supplicando che la causa abbia il suo giusto corso."

I know not whether he be alive or dead, and in such uncertainty I submit myself to the wisdom and mercy of this tribunal, humbly beseeching that the cause be allowed to run its just course."

Mon époux a disparu de ma demeure depuis plus de trois mois, sans qu'aucune nouvelle de lui me soit parvenue, ni par messager ni par lettre. J'ignore s'il est vivant ou mort, et dans cette incertitude je m'en remets à la sagesse et à la miséricorde de ce tribunal, suppliant humblement que la cause suive son juste cours.
